ICON Loading...

Thermaltake continues to be the industry leader in functional and innovative designs for CPU coolers. The CL-P0296 Silent Boost RX for AMD processors combines ease of installation, low noise levels and efficient cooling into an affordable package. The frameless 92mm fan is reversed which helps to reduce noise levels caused by the backpressure.

With only an 18dBA noise level, the 2200RPM fan moves over 38.7CFM of cooling air through the all copper heatsink with its array of copper convection fins designed with maximum surface area for rapid heat dissipation. A variety of 8cm and 9cm fans can be installed in lieu of the included 92mm fan to optimize the CL-P0296 to your needs.

Mounting the Silent Boost RX requires no tools courtesy of its easy to use metal clip. It provides whisper-quiet cooling for AMD Opteron, Athlon 64, Athlon 64 FX and Sempron processors using AMD's 939, 754 or AM2 sockets.

  • newegg Powerful and Silent Fan The Thermaltake CL-P0296 features a unique reversed fan to reduce the noise from air-rebounding and create better air flow for optimal heat dissipation.
  • newegg Pure Copper Design Pure, high-density copper maximizes heat absorption and transfer for amazing cooling abilities.
  • newegg Easy Installation The Thermaltake CL-P0296 features tool-free metal clips that enable extremely convenient installation without additional tools or the need to remove the motherboard from your case.

4 out of 5 eggsQuite a quiet cooler

Pros: Quiet, cools keeps my CPU cool, below 30C at idle.

Cons: No 4 pin variant.

Other Thoughts: Works fine an an AM3 chipset. Newegg really needs to update how you can search for CPU coolers though.

3 out of 5 eggsHello - Goodbye

Pros: Copper Heatsink
Quiet
Price

Cons: Big bulky fan
Not AM3 Socket compatible

Other Thoughts: If purchasing a Phenom II x6 combo I would recommend looking over the specs of this fan and do yourself a favor and find something else.. enough said.
Don't expect it to live long reading other reviews, but ill hold on to it for another AM2 build and see how it does then.

2 out of 5 eggsheavy chunk

Pros: nice copper heatsink

Cons: fans are made of poor quality materials, ended up having to replace out the fan within the first year

Other Thoughts: just get yourself a nice heatpipe and save your motherboard some weight strain

5 out of 5 eggsHTPC

Pros: Very quiet heatsink, my media center pc is whispering. Night and day difference compared with with the locomotives provided by AMD. Cooling is awesome to, I was able to disconnect one of the case fans at full load, and temps inside case are still acceptable. Very easy install.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: This heatsink is a must for a HTPC

2 out of 5 eggsWind Turbine?

Pros: Low price; Copper bass and fins

Cons: Sounds like a wind-turbine when attached to my am2 6400+ CPU. Any increase in CPU load resulted in a rapid 5-10 degree (C) spike in temperatures and rapid rise in noise from a dull hum to a small hurricane; unacceptable in an HTPC case. Packaging of the heatsink arrived torn open, not the UPS box but the actual plastic case around the cooler. Unknown if it was damaged in shipping. RMA-ed. Going with a different cooler.

Other Thoughts: Heatsink might be aimed at the lower power market - would likely use on a 65 watt processor, but ~130 watt, don't think about it. Max temps rose to 65 Celsius with idle temps slowly (SLOWLY) falling to around 38 degrees Celsius. AMD Cool and Quiet turned on so 38 degrees isn't that stellar. Heat sink could not dissipate enough heat so that popping open a new explorer window resulted in a rapid rise in temp and fan noise.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Quite, Thermal Compound applies easy.

Cons: Mobo fried between buying and delivery, had to test on older one.

Other Thoughts: Finally getting a new rig with DDR3 ram

5 out of 5 eggsBest product for price

Pros: Performs better than advertised.. this heatsink can cool ANY A.M.D. processor w/ ease. Also, i just love copper, as an equivalent aluminum cooler w/ these thermal characteristics would be much larger. fan works great, very quiet, moves plenty of air @ helps cool ram also.

Cons: none at all

Other Thoughts: Wish i had purchaced from newegg.. :-( I have 6 more builds to do and will get this cooler from newegg for all of them. B.T.W, "lapping" or otherwise modifying the bottom contact area of this or any other heatsink is detrimental to thermal condudivity. Let a good thermal compound do it's work and get in the small fissures in the block.

Pros: Looks cool and stays cooler when not in load.
Its is quiet because it highest (2200±10% RPM)

Cons: Doesn't cool because it doesn't speed up the fan.

Other Thoughts: TT full load 73c 163f

3 out of 5 eggsGreat heat sink - Bad fan

Pros: Very nice little copper heat sink, Great for smaller cases or lower power CPU's. 5 eggs for heat sink.

Cons: Fan is far to loud for this product. 1 egg for the fan.

Other Thoughts: Buy a fan controller for this setup or replace the fan.
