While any system will generate heat, high performance systems will naturally run hotter – a lot hotter. Excessive temperature will cause slowdowns or crashes and can even damage the CPU and other components inside the case. Thermaltake's CL-P0310 Big Typhoon VX cooling fan is designed for those who don't want to risk their hard earned investment.
Its 120mm cooling fan moves up to 86.5CFM of cooling air at its maximum 2,000RPM yet its able to operate at much lower noise levels than a smaller fan with a maximum noise output of 24dBA. The VR controller lets users adjust the fan speed to optimize performance and noise level. The fan is paired with a copper heatsink base and 6 copper heat pipes which draw heat away from the CPU and up to 142 waved aluminum fins whose large surface area dissipates heat effectively while their waved shape reduces wind shear noise.
The Big Typhoon XV supports both AMD and Intel processors up to 130W. It installs with push pins onto chips using socket LGA775 and features tool-less clip installation onto K8 and the latest socket AM2 CPUs.

What's cooler than cool? Thermaltake!
- Pros: My setup is A*D 64x2 6000+ OC to 3.2GHz, Ant*c 900 case, Thermal*ake 700 PSU, (dual) XF* 8800 GTS graphics card in SLI and my Sound*laster Audigy 2 Z5 sound card..My temps @ idle are: MB-31c CPU 34c ... Under load: MB goes up a bit to 34c and my CPU goes up to 44c-46c
- Cons: I had to remove both graphics cards and my sound card to install this bad boy, although that in of itself is not a 'con', it's just what is required.
- Other Thoughts: Get it. I used the supplied grease that came with the cpu cooler. A lot of people swear by another brand, but I'm perfectly happy with it. The case fans are loader than this thing, even at full!
Needs mods for best performance
- Pros: Uses stock LGA775 clips, no need to remove mobo. Cools well if you mod and install it correctly.
Spread TIM out, install, remove and check for proper contact. Their recommended 'line of TIM' produced much too thick a layer.
- Cons: I needed to sand smooth the base (it had machining lines), install electrical tape under bracket (it didn't provide enough clamping force), crimp clamp guides tight, and bend fins to force airflow thru fins, not thru the gaps between fins and fan duct. These were *easy* to do, so it's not a big 'con'.
- Other Thoughts: On first install, I sanded the base smooth (not mirror smooth), and installed per instructions. Idle temps 35, 28, 28 (cpu, cpu<>ram, ram<>ram). StressTest: 51, 37, 31. After mods: 30, 28, 28 and 43, 31, 28. This is with all fans at 800 rpm (quiet)! Room temps 22c.

amazing cooling
- Pros: works amazingly dropped my temps down by about 15-20 celcius
cpu now idles at about 7-20 celcius load anywhere from 34-46 celcius very quiet
- Cons: non lapped finish
- Other Thoughts: drop one of thermaltakes a1926 fans in it and it looks great too
firstgot it it looked liek it was an engine ahha
Excellent heatsink
- Pros: Runs extremely cool, it's keeping my Athlon 64 x2 5600+ Brisbane at 18c in a 70f room.
- Cons: None at all
- Other Thoughts: This is probably the best cooling solution out there if you don't want to have to remove your motherboard and bolt a heatsink to the board.
- Pros: Adjustable speed setting, Quiet
- Cons: Huge, but it makes it quiet and cool
