Thermalright's HR-05 High-Riser heat sink system provides highly efficient Northbridge cooling. The 30 x 30mm copper base has a heat pipe that runs all the way through the base and rises up through a series of copper fins for increased heat radiation. The fins have a proprietary ventilation through-hole design for better heat flow.

The whole unit is nickel plated for corrosion resistance and an attractive look. Increased cooling efficiency can be achieved with the addition of a regular 70mm fan (optional) to the fins.

  • newegg Proprietary Through Holes With proprietary through holes on fins for efficient ventilation, the passively cooled heatsink design delivers zero-noise cooling to your system.
  • newegg Dual Heatpipes The Thermalright HR-05 features dual heatpipes to effectively spread heat around the copper fins for superior cooling.
  • newegg Easy Installation With the bundled heatsink clips, cable ties and thermal paste, installation is quick and easy without additional tools or the need to remove the motherboard from your case.
  • newegg Universal Socket Compatibility As an all-in-one solution for PC systems, the Thermalright HR-05 features broad compatibility with most motherboards.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome!!!!

Pros: Heatpipe, room for a fan if you want to add one, lighter than it looks.

Cons: rounded base kept letting it slide around. I lapped it and got it flat and stays in place much better. Very tall and awkward to install. easiest to just remove motherboard. just be careful putting it back in or if you bump it, it will twist easy.

Other Thoughts: Works awesome!! Cooled by almost 20C. Used to get 70C under load and 62 idle. Now 54 load and 43 idle. I find now why some get high or low results. in my case my DFI Inf P965-S didn't have a fan on the chipset. I first installed a Zalman CNPS9700 CPU HSF. well, it stands up and shoots air out the back of the case. Well the original HSF was blowing down on the motherboard and that air was helpping keep the NB cool. So people with a NB fan already probably won't get as good of results with this as ones without fans. Adding a fan with this should help even more. but you may need a thin one, 10mm thick or so depending on the room you have.

Pros: See other thoughts

Cons: See other thoughts

Other Thoughts: I purchased the HR-05 IFX which has since been removed from newegg, too cool off a very hot p35 board. It dropped temps for 50 degrees celcius to 40 in a passive setup. The one thing this version is missing is the excellent screwdown system of the IFX, Ive heard a lot of complaints of these coming loose and falling off the northbridge so be careful with it.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: looks good on a sli board

Cons: very heavy for a NB cooler couldn't get it to stay put adding a fan to this defeats the entire purpose of "silent" cooler the clips are not securely fastened (a screw to the center) it may have helped the slipping.

Other Thoughts: hey newegg why no "NOCTUA COOLING"?? 1200rpm 81 M3/hr @ 17Db(a)???

5 out of 5 eggscool!!!

Pros: with out fan it's waste of money. It looks very cool but you really need to attach a fan. I placed 80mm fan and I can't feel any heat

Cons: if you have bigger cpu cooler it's little hard to install.

Other Thoughts: buy a fan!!!!!

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: WOW that WAS cool looking..

Cons: for a tower this thing is too heavy once you put it upright again. now imagine adding a fan to this in a tower how heavy that would be with the cheap mounts that are supplied..if you have an ASUS striker it will probly go on strike too..

Other Thoughts: it looked nice in case howver its just TOO heavy for a tower and the mount hardware provided is less than adequate. im not gonna glue this thing down. HOWEVER for 3.99 you can get a 40mm fan hot glue it to the top of the factory heat sink and this will do the same thing..

4 out of 5 eggsnot bad

Pros: looks nice in case. functional to a degree.

Cons: no good way to mount this thing BUT thermal epoxy is a solution
***WARNING*** this will permanently attach the cooler and if you attempt to remove it just buy a new mobo.

Other Thoughts: something to consider before buying if your doing fine with the stock cooler then like they say "it aint broke dont fix it".
mounting this thing you have options bend the mounts slightly up and glue it them to base. or order the epoxy. in a nutshell if you built your own system you CAN figure out a way to mount this..also the massive 15-20 deg. heat drops umm NO..!!!

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: better than stock cooler for GIGABYTE GA-965P-DS3

Cons: tall, no fan included

Other Thoughts: this fits on a GBYTE 965P-DS3 along side a TUNIQ Tower 120, its tight, but it fits

5 out of 5 eggsThermalright HR-05 - Coolness!

Pros: Simple to mount, broad coverage, very effective cooling, no noise, a LOT of great thermal compound included, low price, looks kewl.

Cons: Kinda tall, so it may not fit all systems. Especially those with the video card over the chipset.

Other Thoughts: Mine works great on my inverted AW9D-MAX (975X chipset). It was necessary to apply the included square felt spacer (not shown in the pics) to prevent the tall HR-05 from "rocking" on the chipset core. The included thermal grease actually works better than the Brand "A" I was using, so I applied it to my x1900xt video card and got a 7C idle/4C load temp drop.

5 out of 5 eggsUsing for CPU

Pros: I'm using it as a heasink for a VIA C3 CPU. The mounting holes on the motherbaord are the same as one of the included brackets, so it works great. Plus, it can be rotated easily if you need a different orientation. Lots of surface area and a silent 80mm fan (not included) keeps the CPU 30 degrees C cooler than the poor stock HSF. Plus it looks like a mini Scythe Ninja, which isn't a bad thing.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Good price, fast shipping, you can't beat the egg.

3 out of 5 eggsagain not worth it

Pros: lower 3-5c

Cons: sit very very loose on the chipset and very difficult to mount it on.

Other Thoughts: again not worth $20. My advice: don't listen to those who declare temp dropped 20c by applying this. they are pimps of the manufacture. All in all not worth it.

Good but issues

3 out of 5 eggs
Lots of fins to push air through. Lowered NB temps by about 5c, with a 60mm fan installed on the heatsink.
