ZALMAN CNPS7000B-ALCU 92mm 2 Ball Cooling Fan

  • 1350 - 2600 ±10% RPM
  • Aluminum & Copper
ICON Loading...

The Zalman CNPS 7000B AlCu, features a quiet, downward blowing 92mm ball bearing fan at the heart of a radial array of aluminum and copper convection fins. While the fan runs at a low 27.5 dBA in its normal 2600 RPM setting, its Silent Mode drops it nearly 50% to 18 dBA as well as eliminating vibration. The included FAN MATE controller lets you control the fan's operating mode. With its unrestricted flow, it cools not only the CPU, but the RAM, VGA card, Northbridge and other nearby components.

Heat is drawn away from the CPU by the pure copper base of the heatsink and it is transferred up into the twin semi-circular arrays of aluminum and copper fins for dissipation. The 7700B AlCu is only 2/3's the weight of the pure copper model which eliminates the possibility of stress damage to the motherboard. The 7000B AlCu is compatible with Intel Socket 478 Pentium 4 CPUs but can be used on Socket 775 processors with the purchase of the ZM-CS1 Clip Support. It will also support a wide variety of AMD Duron, Athhlon and Sempron chips straight from the box.

  • newegg Excellent Cooling Performance The extra-large base made of pure copper and aluminum conducts heat fast, plus a large 92mm dual-ball bearing fan to deliver superior cooling performance.
  • newegg Adjustable Fan Speed The ZALMAN CNPS7000B-ALCU comes with a fan speed controller (Fan Mate 2) so you can fine tune the fan speeds for the optimum balance between cooling performance and noise level.

2 out of 5 eggsa dust magnet, impossible to clean

Pros: cools relatively well when new and clean

Cons: the "wheel" design that has spokes radiating out from the center is especially good at trapping dust and becoming impossible to clean. (the gaps between the fins become small enough to catch dust as you move closer to the center.) once the layer of dust is covering the fins, the fan itself becomes almost useless.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Regular use of compressed air to clean your system should keep the cooler clean.

Best Regards,
Zalman USA

5 out of 5 eggsNice!

Pros: Very nice. Keeps my processor nice and cooled off. Instructions were clear and easy to understand. Took a little bit of time and effort to get it in, but overall is very stable.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks Well, Installation is Involved

Pros: The fan cools well, fits just fine.

The fan cools well: In degrees Celsius, I went from 50 idle / 70 load to 28/50. (Admittedly, I was needing to reapply some thermal grease when I made the change, so I expect most people will experience less dramatic results)

The fan fits fine: I am using a Socket 939 board (Gigabyte K8NF-9 Ultra) and the fan fits just right. The heatsink, large though it may be, doesn't doesn't touch anything--that includes RAM (all my RAM slots are full) and my video card in the PCIe (top) slot.

Cons: Installation was involved:

I had to replace the stock CPU-fan support plate with the one provided by Zalman. To replace the plate I had to take my motherboard completely out from my case. This meant disconnecting everything. Though installation was involved, it was not unreasonable. (see "other thoughts" below)

Other Thoughts: Though installation was involved, it was not unreasonably so:

Unlike one other reviewer, I did not have a difficult time screwing in the fan to the support. Granted, to remove the motherboard entirely just to install a new CPU fan is pretty serious, but it's straightforward--and anyway, if you're looking at this fan, you're probably ready and able to gut a computer and put it back together again.

5 out of 5 eggsZalman CPU Cooler

Pros: Quiet! Finally!! The Fan Controller is very nice too. The controller comes with a sticky pad that you can use to stick anywhere.

Cons: None!

Other Thoughts: P4 3.0 Prescott as a WHS. The original ten dollar heat sink/fan I bought 3 years ago was so loud! This is awesome!

I went ahead and used the thermal grease it came with and my temps are in the mid 30's idle according to the bios and everest ultimate.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat fan

Pros: Very quiet, even without using the included fan controller. Keeps the processor near room temperature and significantly cooled my northbridge because of the open heat sink design.

Cons: I cant fry eggs on my northbridge anymore and the grid-shaped burn marks on the back of my fingers will heal now.

5 out of 5 eggsAs Advertised!

Pros: Lighter weight than the solid copper version. Cools just fine.

Cons: Could be tight fit in some smaller cases.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Keeps things nice and cool. Reasonably priced. Quiet enough. Busted an extra 500 MHz out of my Athlon 64 X2 4200+ Manchester and has been running at that speed for about a year with no issues. I've never had to make any adjustments to the HSF after the initial installation.

Cons: Kinda big, but that's only an issue if you have a cramped case (still, there are definitely some much larger HSFs out there).

Other Thoughts: A solid alternative to the AMD stock HSF. Seems to provide decent overclocking headroom. Your mileage will vary depending on your CPU.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent cooler

Pros: Dropped the idle temps on my Q6600 to under 30c and heavy load to around 60c. Very nice construction and sturdy fit. Nice and quiet too.

Cons: Fins are a little flimsy and will bend if you are not careful around them.

5 out of 5 eggsThe best

Pros: Easy to install, easy to understand manual, no noise in silent mode. It fits on my Pentium 4 socket 478 CPU with no problems.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I am building a 'Silent' PC. It does gets a little loud at high speeds but I always keep it in Silent Mode, that is why I bought it for. Also, make sure that there is enough room between your mother board and PSU or they will touch each other. Zalman rocks when it comes to noise reduction.
