OverviewCustomer ReviewSpecificationsProduct Tour
The Zalman CNPS 7000B AlCu, features a quiet, downward blowing 92mm ball bearing fan at the heart of a radial array of aluminum and copper convection fins. While the fan runs at a low 27.5 dBA in its normal 2600 RPM setting, its Silent Mode drops it nearly 50% to 18 dBA as well as eliminating vibration. The included FAN MATE controller lets you control the fan's operating mode. With its unrestricted flow, it cools not only the CPU, but the RAM, VGA card, Northbridge and other nearby components.

Heat is drawn away from the CPU by the pure copper base of the heatsink and it is transferred up into the twin semi-circular arrays of aluminum and copper fins for dissipation. The 7700B AlCu is only 2/3's the weight of the pure copper model which eliminates the possibility of stress damage to the motherboard. The 7000B AlCu is compatible with Intel Socket 478 Pentium 4 CPUs but can be used on Socket 775 processors with the purchase of the ZM-CS1 Clip Support. It will also support a wide variety of AMD Duron, Athhlon and Sempron chips straight from the box.

to heavy

white Reviewed By: TOvar on 1/18/2006
Rating + 2
Tech Level Tech Level: high - Ownership: 1 month to 1 year
Pros: cool silent and supurb by far one of the best heatsinks out there
Cons: too heavy poor mounting desgin for AMD 64's
Other Thoughts: ive had 7 of these for 5 months in some of our office PC's. i bought them to remove the heat faster from our newer processors

all is fine and dandy until you decide to move the things, one truck ride later after reloacting the PC's every single one of them became detached from the socket.

the bar they used is desgined to bend but if too much stress is put on it you can counter bend it. it will push the HSF away from the CPU socket, now if the compound is "set up" its most likely gonna rip it out.

needless to say i lost 6 good AMD's because the pins were bent to0 extreme to fix , i was able to salvage one

if you move your PC long distances or anything thats gonna jeark the computer around a little YOU MUST REMOVE THE HSF its to heavy period

Great stock HSF replacement

white Reviewed By: Lore on 2/16/2008

Tech Level Tech Level: somewhat high - Ownership: 1 day to 1 week
This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: IMHO the best HSF offered at newegg at this time for Socket 478 and Intel MoBo D875PBZLK. Fits MoBo with plenty of room around HSF, the shortest distance .635cm between HSF and Northbridge stock Heatsink. If you get a 120mm (136mm counting heatsink fins) the Northbridge Heatsink will conflict since you will be 2.1cm to big. The 7000 is under the MoBo weight limit of 450grams and doesn’t put unneeded stress on the wafer-board especial when transporting it a lot for LAN Parties.

Replaced the 4yearold stock Intel 60mm for a Pentium4 2.8C Norhtwood, fan was made by Nidec. Old HSF rating was 3200 rpm, .28amps @12V, 34 db, and unknown c/w. Fan actually spun at 2900 rpms, you could hear it 6 meters away, and at Idle +2 degrees above Ambient case temps and Load +5 to 10 C. The 7000 has a .22c/w and after 6 days with Artic Silver5 is Idling at +2, Load at +5 to 10 C from case temps, and I can barely hear it over the Scythe SFF21F and 2x Enermax UC-8E.
Cons: Pain in the rear end to screw in without breaking the contact between CPU and HSF and ruining the applied compound. Make sure you lay the case down, insert the screws in to the correct holes before setting HSF on CPU and apply constant light pressure to HSF so it doesn’t uproot during screwing process until the HSF is firmly mounted.

Was expecting based off of documentation from Zalman and other review sites that this 92mm should be able to run in its “Silent mode” for a 2.8C Northwood and keep about the same temps as the Stock Intel HSF. But I need to run it at 2000rpm to accomplish this. It’s defiantly quieter though.

Some of the Heatsink Fins where bent together when I opened the box, had to bend them slightly to separate them apart.
Other Thoughts: Used Artic Silver5 compound instead of supplied compound.

a dust magnet, impossible to clean

white Reviewed By: hahn on 4/2/2009
Rating + 2
Tech Level Tech Level: average - Ownership: more than 1 year
This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: cools relatively well when new and clean
Cons: the "wheel" design that has spokes radiating out from the center is especially good at trapping dust and becoming impossible to clean. (the gaps between the fins become small enough to catch dust as you move closer to the center.) once the layer of dust is covering the fins, the fan itself becomes almost useless.
Manufacturer Response:Dear Valued Customer,

Regular use of compressed air to clean your system should keep the cooler clean.

Best Regards,
Zalman USA

Works Well, Installation is Involved

white Reviewed By: K-Bone Stallone on 3/4/2009
Rating + 4
Tech Level Tech Level: high - Ownership: 1 week to 1 month
This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: The fan cools well, fits just fine.

The fan cools well: In degrees Celsius, I went from 50 idle / 70 load to 28/50. (Admittedly, I was needing to reapply some thermal grease when I made the change, so I expect most people will experience less dramatic results)

The fan fits fine: I am using a Socket 939 board (Gigabyte K8NF-9 Ultra) and the fan fits just right. The heatsink, large though it may be, doesn't doesn't touch anything--that includes RAM (all my RAM slots are full) and my video card in the PCIe (top) slot.
Cons: Installation was involved:

I had to replace the stock CPU-fan support plate with the one provided by Zalman. To replace the plate I had to take my motherboard completely out from my case. This meant disconnecting everything. Though installation was involved, it was not unreasonable. (see "other thoughts" below)
Other Thoughts: Though installation was involved, it was not unreasonably so:

Unlike one other reviewer, I did not have a difficult time screwing in the fan to the support. Granted, to remove the motherboard entirely just to install a new CPU fan is pretty serious, but it's straightforward--and anyway, if you're looking at this fan, you're probably ready and able to gut a computer and put it back together again.
