Zalman bills itself as the "quiet cooling solution" and they have a reputation for easy to use, reliable products. They also have a reputation for creating products that look as good as they run. With the CNPS 7700 AlCu, "bigger is better." A quiet, downward blowing 120mm ball bearing fan sits at the heart of a radial array of aluminum and copper convection fins.
While the fan runs at a low 32 dBA in its normal 2000 RPM setting, its Silent Mode drops it nearly 50% to 20 dBA as well as eliminating vibration. With its unrestricted flow, it cools not only the CPU, but the RAM, VGA card, Northbridge and other components. The included FAN MATE controller lets you choose in which mode the fan operates.
Heat is drawn away from the CPU by the pure copper base of the heatsink and it is transferred up into the twin semi-circular arrays of aluminum and copper fins for dissipation. The 7700 AlCu is only 2/3's the weight of the pure copper model. Both Intel Socket 775 and 478 Pentium 4 chips are supported by the 7700 AlCu. It is also compatible with AMD 64 processors using 754, 939 and 940 sockets.

the pictures aren't big enough!
- Pros: It's huge, and it revolves slow. Slow revolutions = quiet, less voltage. I haven't done a temp reading of how my CPU's doing. But im sure its much much lower than stock. BTW, im running a 2.13 core 2 duo
- Cons: Way too big for mini-cases, and probably some mid-tower users will have issues making it fit. Fins look easy to blend.
- Other Thoughts: Zalman says that this product is 136mm wide. A CD is about 120mm wide. If you cannot find space on your board to fit a CD ontop of your CPU with a little space to spare, DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT.
- Pros: Quiet!!smooth running, more then enough cooling. computer runs between 38c to 42c at hard gaming, so im happy.
- Cons: it prolly wont last 10 years, but thats alright
- Other Thoughts: make sure you have the room for it, its big!!

Worthy upgrade
- Pros: Much quieter than stock cooler. Vastly improved cooling capacity over stock. With a mild overclock you can leave the fanspeed at it's minimum, but if you're trying to push your dual core to the max this fan/cooler has got you covered.
- Cons: Not sufficient for aggressive quad core overclocks, but it wasn't designed to be.
- Other Thoughts: I have used quite a few of these in recent builds and all run flawlessly. Huge improvement over stock. Sure, you can save $10-15 and go with a generic cooler, but zalman quality is proven and worth the few extra dollars.
doesn't fit my socket 940
- Pros: huge nice fan!
- Cons: Wouldn't fit my socket 940 tried to rid a heatsink clip from another heatsink on wasn't tight enough. The motherboard back blate was 2 screw hookup for the fan, motherboard was 4 didnt work
- Other Thoughts: If it will fit buy it.
ehh....
- Pros: SILENT when used properly, cool look, comes with pieces for various boards and even a little tiny bit of thermal grease
- Cons: ya people arent kidding when they say this thing is absolutely MONSTROUS.... employed by the goverment to stop Germany in WW2.... powerful but will not work with lower grade systems... even though its compatible with the 939 amd sockets, this is made for intel PC's installation was HORRIBLE, far from easy... given im not great with thermal paste but regardless... not fun to deal with, DEFINITLY not easy installation
- Other Thoughts: ordered it for my AM2 motherboard.... silly me didnt fit, luckily i was building an old hp for a friend and needed the heatsink so i gave the old pc the new heatsink... pretty upsetting... but it works although i cannot use the fans power controller because the 300watt power supply on the older PC is not strong enough to divert power through cords so the power has to be hooked directly from heatsink to motherboard... i dont know if this is my comp or shotty manufacturing. THING IS ENORMOUS PLEASE TAKE WARNING . so big . Heavy as well. still upset i cant run it on my AM2... my 3.3 quad core gets hot as hell

Does not generate noise or vibration in Silent Mode. Pure Copper and Pure Aluminum base material ensures excellent heat dissipation. The large 120mm fan inside the FHS maximizes cooling performance by providing sufficient airflow even at slow rotation speeds. The large 120mm fan provides air flow over a large area, cooling not only the CPU, but the VGA card, Northbridge, FET, and RAM. The adjustable fan speed controller (FAN MATE 2) enables control of noise and fan performance. |
