Great Cooling fan
- Pros: I had no trouble at all installing this fan. I started the computer up and used Asus's AI Probe to get the temps and was amazed.
Before (stock fan): CPU: Idle 38c ~100% ~60c SYS: Idle 35c ~100% ~39c
After (this fan your reading about) CPU: Idle 34c ~100% 51c SYS: Idle 35c ~100% 36c
Yes, the CPU actually idles one degree cooler then the system temp and every once and a while the cpu dips to 33c.
for comparison the room temp is 21c, for the really temp crazy people
- Cons: No cons, and mine was not concave on the bottom like some other reviews stated so hopefully that problem is fix.
- Other Thoughts: At first when i started the system it idled at 35c and then i put some load on it and it jumped up quickly to mid 40's. got to 80% load and it climbed to 56c. Then I figured I didnt put enough Artice Silver 5 on so I pulled the fan off and blobbed on a nice dot in the middle and then restarted the comp and got the results above and the temps dont jump around very fast now, nice smooth rise and fall which means the heat is getting to the heatsink.
Tip: make sure you put enough Artice Silver 5 on for good contact.
absolutely amazing heatsink!!
- Pros: this cooler is Absolutely worth every PENNY!!! Cooled my X2 4400 from 52C (100% load) to MAX of 40C
Idle was normally 40C now its at a nice 30C! ALL that while remaining COMPLETELY silent! Way to go Zalman!
- Cons: nothing at all!
- Other Thoughts: be careful with the fins... they seem sturdy but can be bent easily

Socket 478 Pentium 4 Testimony
- Pros: Can't complain about cooling performance. Use it to cool my socket 478 Pentium 4 Northwood 3.4GHz, highest socket 478 CPU freq. Results with Arctic Silver 5 thermal grease, tested with IntelBurnTest program in an enclosed case crammed into a cabinet under my desk:
Intel Stock Cooler C91249-003: Idle: 50+C, Load: 70+C Zalman CNPS 9500A: Idle: 40C, Load: 58C
That's over 10+C temp difference, folks. Besides superb cooling, the fan is much quieter than Intel stock cooler, though I don't believe the spec max 27.5dBA (more like 30dBA compared to my other fans rated at this level). If you have other fans inside the case, the noise from CNPS9500A will most likely be drowned anyway.
- Cons: Installation a pain without removing the mobo from chasis. Instruction requires at least 45mm clearance from center of CPU but I can attest this is not enough without removing mobo from chasis. Most 478 mobos have the socket in North-South direction, has CPU right at the top of mobo and a heat sink for Northbridge right below CPU socket. So there's almost no space to work with. This issue will not be limited to 478 mobos and unless you have a full size ATX mobo with CPU socket some leeway from PSU & chipset heatsink, it's a pain.
- Other Thoughts: 1) Copper cooler base is perfectly polished like a mirror, one of the best I've ever seen.
2) For those who want a cooler for socket 478, this is the best cooler taking price, performance & size into account. I've done lots of research into this topic. Only a few coolers still support socket 478. Amount those, most of them are old designs which cooling performances are way below par. There are a few big efficient modern coolers which support 478 but are way too expensive (remember most of them require separate ordering of mounting kit) and maybe way too big. There are some good coolers slightly less expensive than CNPS9500A but the physical size prohibit installation. e.g. CNPS7700 is a great choice which I seriously considered but the huge circular size of 136 mm diameter just won't cut it.
very satisfied.
- Pros: this heatsink / fan helped my old p4 lower the temp down 20degree c. very easy to install and although it was really bulky, my tower was big enough to fit without any problem.
- Cons: nothing i can think of.
Simple and solid product
- Pros: Simple, quiet (@1700rpm), and good quality.
I have mine mounted vertically so the air moves towards the top mounted case fan (natural warm air movement) which made it little easier to install with the clip. Idles at 36-38c with 4 cores at 3.7ghz, should be less if cool n quiet is enabled which shuts down 50% of the cores at idle. MB stays at 26-28c at idle. But don't expect it to keep your CPU at room temp. like some have mentioned, 22c = 72 degree which is most room temperature, unless it's in sleep mode, you live in Alaska with no heat, or the temp. sensors are way off.
- Cons: None.
- Other Thoughts: WinXP pro
AMD 955BE @ 3.7ghz (FSB 230) Asus Crossfire 3 2x2gb G.Skill (pc3 12800) @ 1500mhz (winXP 32bit OS = 3.1gb, need a 64bit OS to utilize 4 or more gig memory) Radeon 5770 750w single rail PS
