5 out of 5 eggsFan Blades Pull Air Through - Not Push Out

Pros: Great fan. Keeps things significantly cooler (varying results for all would be normal).

Make sure you seat the fan properly. Of the two ends, the end with the fan blades is pulling the air into it to blow out the back end of the fan. You want this fan to compliment your build and airflow. It is generally a better idea to have this fan blowing air in the direction where your other fans are trying to blow air out of your computer case.

So it's good to have the end with no fan blades (i.e. the back) pointing towards a rear\top computer case fan...that way this CPU cooler fan will suck air in (from the end with the fan blades) and blow it out to the fan attached to your case, which is subsequently blowing the air out of your PC case.

It seems obvious and even expected. But I certainly understand the excitement of building a PC. And forcing yourself to keep these things in mind will keep your PC cooler and healthier in the long run.

Cons: Be careful with those very thin blades surrounding the fan. It's part of the heat dissipation, but they feel pretty flimsy. I didn't test how much pressure it would take to bend them. But it didn't feel like it would take much.

Other Thoughts: The hard plastic mount that attaches to the motherboard ALMOST came right down on top of a transistor or two. Be careful.

3 out of 5 eggsGood buy but not great

Pros: Quiet stays cool 32-42 C at around 600-1000 rpm on a intel G3258 Haswell even at 78 deg F room temp.I plugged the fan directly in mobo cpu header although its is only 3 pin fan expert was able to control it well.

Cons: Fan I dislike the fact that you cant buy a replacement fan and that the fan isn't 4 pin pwm .

Other Thoughts: If your thinking of overclocking I would look at other coolers. This will work but there are coolers for a little more cash that would do a better job. I would recommend this over the stock cooler any day.

4 out of 5 eggsAmazing - except for like, two things...

Pros: Offers surprising amount of cooling for a smaller spec fan. Very quiet on lowest setting (1500rpm) if you are using the fan controller. LED is a nice touch. Low profile makes it great for smaller towers. Installation was easier than expected

Cons: Crazy sharp blades around the fan, no PWM (only external fan controller), fairly loud on max setting (2500rpm), and once it's inside your computer it makes it VERY hard to work on things, as the sharp fan blades take up a lot of real estate, depending on your tower.

Other Thoughts: I almost decided to go with my stock cooler on the fx8320, but i ended up dropping it with the thermal paste-side down, so i was forced then to use my Zalman cooler, and thank goodness i did. I was expecting a very messy install but it actually went better than expected. Didn't cut myself (until it was in there and i started messing around with my ram sticks), the controller setup was easy, and I didnt have any issue with it sliding around once it was in there. With this running my fx8320 and ASUS gtx960, I have yet to see my rig get above 60c w/o overclock. Sometimes i do forget to turn the controller all the way up before gaming (another reason why you will hate using the fan controller) and it can get hotter than usual. Besides the things I've listed, I can wholeheartedly recommend this to anyone looking for a decent cooler, that can't break the bank for water cooling. First time builders - however - may want to pass on this for something a little easier to install and maintain.

4 out of 5 eggsAmazing...

Pros: + Dissipates heat like no other
+ Fan doesn't need to be blasting to be effective
+ Quality components
+ Includes single fan controller

Cons: - Fan isn't PWM
- Fins may cut you

Other Thoughts: I assume that Zalman is including a single fan controller as an apology for not providing a pulse-width-modulated fan. I haven't seen a motherboard that doesn't offer CPU PWM headers since 2004. I deducted an egg for this...

Otherwise: This thing is simply fantastic at removing heat. The Stock cooler on my i7 4790 (65W TDP) maintained 40 Deg. C at idle. This heatsink, with the fan on the lowest setting, maintains 28 Deg. C at idle...

28.

Both heatsinks were applied with Arctic Silver compound.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Nice Zalman

Pros: I have this Zalman in 5 different systems. The oldest one is still going strong after 2+ years. I just wish they made this same model for the FM2+ ( Hint Hint Zalman )
I'm just putting two new systems together and I had to use a different heatsink. You have plenty of room for the memory chips and you can choose the direction of your exhaust if your case has optional fans up top. Over all it's a great fan for the price.

Cons: Not docking for this but.........the fins are sharp, but it's a great heatsink so I don't mind.

Other Thoughts: I like how easy this one installs and this model moves a lot of air.
I would recommend this size if you are building in a smaller case.

5 out of 5 eggsStill Amazing

Pros: Ive used this fan for the past 7 years and ordered this new one for a new system. Amazing and quiet.

Cons: A real challenge is installing this fan on an already installed motherboard.

Other Thoughts: Still Amazing

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing Performance

Pros: HUGE drop in cpu temps. Incredible performance.

Cons: It's kind of a pain to install. You have to remove the motherboard (1155) to anchor the cooler. It's really the only con. It's even a minor quibble at that.....I needed to clean up some cables anyway.

Other Thoughts: I wasn't sure if it was worth spending the extra $$$ on getting a 'better' cooler. WOW. I had been running around 50-90C depending on load. I'm now running 20-55C depending on load. It's crazy how good this thing works. I am using a i7-3770k and the Intel Extreme mobo.

If you don't mind pulling out the motherboard to install, this thing is crazy good. It's pretty big, so you need the room. It was super easy to install. I had no issues at all. This should definitely be on your short list if your looking for an upgraded cooling solution.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Cooling

Pros: Great air flow, easy installation, looks great, cools great.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: This is on my intel Q6600. Idle temperatures right around 140f, and hard running temps hitting as high as 180f. Installed the cooler and idles temps have dropped to 100f to 118f, with running temps around 140f. Way to go Zalman!

5 out of 5 eggsZALMAN CNPS9500A-LED 92mm 2 Ball CPU Cooler

Pros: I'm impressed, I installed this cooler on my Intel i7-4790K processor. On the low fan speed the idle temps for my processor using Real Temp 3.70 are in the upper 20C area, when gaming they hit the upper 30C area, occasionally the lower 40C area. I used arctic ARCTIC MX4 thermal compound and also have a case with awesome air flow, I'm sure that helped.

Cons: None so far.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Impressive Cooling

Pros: With this cooler and Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste (paper thin layer) my i5-4430 idles at 28°C. Under extreme load via StarCraft II custom maps (eg. Special Forces) where my 4430 was CPU limited to 28FPS several times and ran for a duration of about 2 hours at this high load max temp only got to 38°C. While I'm sure I could get it higher under Prime95 I seriously doubt I could get this setup over 40°C. I wish this processor was not locked as I'm sure at these temps I could seriously over clock this.

Cons: The copper fins are extremely sharp, combined with the weight of the heat sink this is slightly dangerous. Handle with caution I put my fingers inside so that I could support the heat sink by the copper tubes. Any time I tried to hold it by the fins I could feel them grabbing my skin.

Other Thoughts: This exceeded my expectations although in hind sight I found that Arctic Silver 5 is not the best thermal paste. I would go with Coolaboratory Liquid Pro thermal paste for optimal performance. I didn't even try the stock thermal paste or the Zalman thermal paste as Arctic Silver 5 out performs these both easily.
