Further thoughts about this
- Pros: Properly mounted this thing rocks the house
- Cons: Improperly mounted this thing doesn't.
- Other Thoughts: Others have given this a low rating. Some have been for getting a defective product. Those folks have got to realize that no company /product is perfect. Sometimes you will get a lemon.
Now as to the folks who reported poor performance from this product:
ORIENTATION is EVERYTHING with cooling products! Consider the fact that heat rises. So what will happen if you position the cooling fan blowing down AND you don't have alot of space above the fan? Uh, how about NOTHING in terms of cooling! The heat is rising, AND the fan can't grab any air to push though the fins. Now lets add the another possible issue. The location/design of the power supply. Is this the type that has a single 120MM fan that is positioned directly above your "upside down" mounted cooler? and is the unit "pulling" air into the unit and out the back? If it is, guess what? You have 2 devices pulling against each other and the end result is little to no air movement.
So consider your mounting position!!!!!
Failed after 8 months; NO SUPPORT from Arctic
- Pros: Cooling is above average; quietness is also above average UNTIL it fails. 6 year warranty.
- Cons: Fans failed after 8 months, and Arctic Cooling has NO technical support. 6 year warranty is bogus!
Very difficult to install in Asus P4C800 motherboard. I was afraid I was going to break something. (See elsewhere here for the very good suggestion that they supply a headband for the installer, since you'll be sweating bullets trying to install it!)
- Other Thoughts: This fan works well, and is quiet, for a while. But mine lasted only 8 months before it started making a loud clicking sound. It has a so called 6 year warranty, but if your dealer will accept it for RMA, you have to wait for them to receive it and then wait for the replacement. In the meantime, you are without a computer. I don't know about you, but being without a computer is like being without a telephone. So you have to buy another fan to use while waiting for your "warranted" fan. Then you have two fans. So, what good is THAT warranty?
And Arctic Cooling http://www.arctic-cooling.com/ has NO technical support. Three emails later, and NO response from them. So do yourself a favor, go to Arctic cooling and see for yourself, buy clicking on "support". Then go buy a cpu fan with a REAL warranty!
Oh, how I wish I knew then, what I know now. Sigh.

Good fan
- Pros: Easy install. Reduced my CPU temp by 10 degrees Celsius. Plus it looks tough.
- Cons: I left the plastic cover on the copper base and put that on my processor (by mistake). Surprisingly I didn't burn out the processor or melt that plastic, but I wish there would have been a more visible tab, or something saying "remember to remove plastic". Of course, that's pretty much my fault.
- Other Thoughts: I'm not an uber PC performance guy. So i'm not sure how much of this fan is just for show, but i can say that it helped reduce the temp in my PC.
Three years later
- Pros: Fan's quiet motor continues pumping volumes of air across the huge heat sink and pipes. Able to over drive a 3.2 Ghz Prescott 478 CPU to 3.5.
- Cons: It's big. As in huge. BIOS chips heat sinks can easily get in the way. Along with large capacitors and power cables.
The stress on the motherboard is high because of weight.
- Other Thoughts: Three years ago this was one of the best air cooling solution in the market. If I had to do it all over again. I would have carefully chosen a motherboard that could exceed 3.5Ghz without failing.
COOL FOR REAL
- Pros: This unit dropped my CPU temp from 71 to 49 degrees. The highest the temp ever went to was 56 after inatalling it. It was well worth the money.
- Cons: I found it a little tricky/difficult to install in a fully assembled system because of it's reasonable physical size
