What do you say about the foundation of everything we do on the PC? Microsoft Windows, since its first release, has become an integral part of our computing lives. From photography to e-mail, gaming to multimedia, Windows is the framework on which all the other applications and programs are built. Without the Windows Graphic User Interface, nothing else would work. This is by design. The developers at Microsoft have worked hard to incorporate every aspect of digital information management and entertainment.

It offers you the best computing experience as it is compatible with most of the applications. This operating system's Improved network connections make network set-up an easy task to perform. With wireless networking support, you can easily work offline or access your computer remotely. It boasts of Configurations Wizard that simplifies the process of tweaking hardware and software settings, this feature is complimented with Improved Power Management, which enables you to customize the power usage of your PC or notebook as per your need.
Windows XP includes a suite of features to help you protect your PC from hackers and phishers with the latest security enhancements and regular “patches” from Microsoft. It features Automatic Windows Update, an application that automatically integrates the operating system with Windows Servers and management solutions and keeps your system updated. It’s simple and easy to set up for the various users in your family, connect several computers, and there are controls which allow you to restrict and monitor a child’s internet travels. Web browsing is a cinch – Internet Explorer 6 provides a simple interface for web browsing and reading, and helps secure yours system from outside interference. This is the base on which every other personal computing program rests, and is essential for your PC.

Fresh install
- Pros: Faster than win 2000 pro
- Cons: Don't like new look. I have web browser, why would I want my os to look like web browser interface. Thankfully it has classic interface option.
- Other Thoughts: To a previous user: You CAN upgrade from win 2000 it is the easiest of all the upgrades. Best thing to do is fresh install on reformatted hard drive. No mixing of 2 different os files. Tells how on microsoft support website. Just boot from winxp pro cd, it'll ask for previous os cd once verified it will tell you to put xp cd back in and then install xp.
Waiting for Vista to mature
- Pros: Good operating system, easy to install
- Cons: Price, needed an additional license. Called Microsoft and they charged me $200. What no discount?
- Other Thoughts: none I can share on this site.

info correction
- Pros: works in business enviroment, more capable than home.
- Cons: costs too much for upgrade, 99 would be more reasonable imho. microsoft support for mce is buggy sometimes, pro is better.
- Other Thoughts: contrary to previous reviews, mce is actually pro with mce extensions. i'm too lazy to look up if networking limits are same as pro or home, but i can say that mce install screens actually say pro until the end of install . . . just thought that might help. also, recommend a fresh install, mce install gives rare unsupported o/s error with some microsoft utilities.
It's XP and it works
- Pros: Not much to say, other than it works. I use this in order to run a few older programs that I have.
- Cons: Activation
- Other Thoughts: XP is XP works very well. I have not had much trouble with Windows over the years as some have. Maybe it is the user and not the software?
Junk
- Pros: Much better than Vista
- Cons: SP3 messed it up.
