Pros: This unit is very compact. The small footprint is great where space is limited. It is easy to install. Use the included CD to install the driver and the scanning software. Scanning is blazing fast around 20PPM in B/W. Scanning is quiet. Comes with ISIS & TWAIN driver.
Cons: I was having some difficulty scanning with Scansoft Paperport 11 & OmniPage 15.

Very discriminating and LOVE this scanner

Pros: Fast; does duplex; scans straight to .pdf; any color level, including black/white (smaller files); very simple to use - all around awesome.
Cons: The custom scans are not trivial to set up. I usually just change the "job options" and then change them back (from simplex to duplex, for example). The scans are somewhat crooked. An auto alignment software would be nice.
Other Thoughts: The person who gave it two stars and said the documents will be pulled through in a clump probably had it set to do so. I've accidentally done this. There is a switch you slide up/down to select one sheet at a time or the whole clump. The latter is nice for scanning a stapled bifold pamphlet without taking it apart, for example.

Pros: We use the scanner for a company with about 30 employees and it takes care of everything we need. We actually have two now and are happy with both. It came with Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard, which is awesome because I was just about to buy it.
Cons: Install screen looks archaic.
Other Thoughts: Great scanner and great bundle with Acrobat 9.

Good Duplex Scanner For The Money

Pros: Cheap, compact, duplex, Acrobat Standard 8 is included.
Cons: No tray to catch scanned pages. OmniPage SE 4 which is included does not work with Vista 32bit(SP2) at all. Acrobat Standard 8 requires applying a complex set of patches to get product activation and the application itself to work on Vista 32bit(SP2).
Other Thoughts: I mostly use Acrobat for scanning and processing documents not the Cannon CapturePerfect application. IMHO, the inclusion of Acrobat adds significant value since Acrobat is a rather expensive software package when purchased separatly.
As for the tray being missing, I found that placing an object in front of the scanner works great at keeping the pages from flying all over the place.
Acrobat 8 is rather difficult to setup on Vista, as the application will hang at the startup screen if the correct patches are not applied. You need to apply the Licensing update patch for Vista and the update to 8.1 to get the application to work at all. Acrobat requires Internet based online activation.

Great Idea, Average Execution

Pros: This is miracle of modern technology for light-to-medium office paper scanning tasks. You will never go back to an flat-bed for paper document scanning.
Cons: No outgoing tray! This is my biggest complaint. Paper collects in a scrunched heap at the bottom of the scanner. A simple pull-out tray on the bottom would only have been some extra plastic molding, but how many scan jobs have been interrupted because outgoing paper jammed against my messy desk?
Also: Only scans paper documents, no OmniPage SE4 is obnoxious and poorly designed pushware (but that's not Canon's fault), incoming tray only holds about 15 pages, a bit pricy, I think.
Other Thoughts: While the feed scanner functionality is great in theory, this Canon advertises itself as small and convenient. I don't want "small and convenient." I manage a medical office, and I have a lot of paper that I want scanned NOW without my attention, even if that means a big, bulky monster of a machine. I had hoped that this scanner would be sufficient, but it's not. However, while I will be shopping for a more aggressive, I still strongly recommend this scanner for anybody using a flat-bed scanner to scan paper documents in a light to medium office environment.
Basically, if you are happy with a desktop inkjet printer, you will be happy with a Canon DR-2050C. If you need a laser printer, you will also need a more powerful scanner.
