APC's Back-UPS BR800BLK provides high-performance battery backup and power protection for your computer and peripheral devices. It has seven outlets, four of which are linked to the battery power, with three providing surge only protection for less critical equipment, all in a slimline unit. With a battery run time up to 17.3 minutes, the BR800BLK will offer you enough time to close files and protect data in a power outage. It also protects your data lines against surges, spikes, lightning, and other power disturbances.
Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR) ensures that all your electronics are receiving clean power and stabilizes the voltage to a nominal 120V. The award-winning shutdown software automatically saves and closes open files and shuts down the PC in an intelligent and orderly manner, with audible alarms. Count on the BR800BLK and APC to keep your valuable equipment and data safe!
Pros: There may be cheaper UPSs, but this has UPS has got to be one of the best. Its high efficiency and won't suck down 600 watts when there is only a 200 watt load (with AC online or offline) and actually has useful software bundled with it! You can even set trigger thresholds to make this UPS be usable in noisy conditions that would render some other UPSs useless (ie, when running off a backup generator). Another nice feature is the ability to shut off audible alarms via software!
Cons: The price is a bit more than el-cheapo-UPSs, but if you're like me and have had multiple brands running side by side, the winner quickly stands out and justifies the extra $$.
Other Thoughts: I've owned multiple brands of UPSs over the years. Over the past 2 years, I've phased all of them to the RS-800. I've got 3 of them now: 2 for my servers, 1 for my media center & stereo, and when my desktop's MGE UPS batteries are gone, thats up for an RS-800 as well.

Pros: APC is a trusted manufacturer.
Cons: Did not protect system as expected.
Other Thoughts: I used APC's UPS picker tool from their website to select this model. I used my hardware specs and added a couple of printers and external devices for buffer. My system has a 550 watt power supply which is 10 watts above the 540 make for the UPS. However at only 190 watt or 35% load, the UPS failed to protect during a power outage. Self tests passed. APC tech support stated that somehow the UPS knew that the power supply is 550 watts and turned off.
