Great Overall
- Pros: Tiny. When they say the size of a credit card, they're lying; it's smaller. The price is great. The screen looks amazing. I know the resolution may not sound like much, but on a 2.5" screen its most definitely more than adequate. Media plays from SDHC card flawlessly. The provided video conversion software works with DIVX, AVI, you name it. The movies are crystal clear. Included headphones are better than I expected and won't be replaced for a while.
- Cons: Very few. First, it has locked up twice and had to be reset. It came with the current firmware update which was suppose to fix this issue, but apparently it hasn't completely. Another is that the actual capacity is a little over 15gb, and for some reason the 13gb of music I put on it has nearly filled it. The last is something I might have realized if I had owned an MP3 player with a flash card slot. When I put media on my 8gb SDHC card, I cannot access that media through the main menu music and video options, instead I have to go into the memory card option and access it there. Because of this if you plan on putting more than ~15gb of music on it, you'll have to split your library between the internal drive and your memory card. Small annoyance, but it's there.
- Other Thoughts: I love it. The other two options I were considering were the Sansa View and Ipod Classic. In the end the smaller size and weight over both and the lower price and increased reliability of a flash player over the hard drive based Ipod swayed me toward the Zen, and I'm glad. This is a beautiful little piece of hardware. I've only ever owned a 1st gen Ipod Nano and a 2nd gen Shuffle but this is by far my favorite. I would recommend it to anyone, and have to my friends. Creative makes great products for great prices. I would also recommend picking up a case for it. I went ahead and bought the Creative branded leather case from Newegg as well, which is also great.
Overall, I would give this product a 9 out of 10 only because of the few issues I named above. I rounded up to five eggs.
I got this, the Creative leather case, and a 8gb card for it for the price of an Ipod classic.
Put short, if you want a great flash based media player, buy this product. You won't regret it.
Best player ever
- Pros: bright screen, video playback, easy sync, easy use period
- Cons: The buttons do feel a little cheap but nothing so bad to make you to return it.
- Other Thoughts: The best player i've had, plays everything and anything. Couldn't get the software to install due to a problem with quicktime, it was an error with my computer. Can just use windows media player to sync or windows explorer, it is simplier that way based on my experience with other creative software. Recommend this over anything player I've had/seen/tried before. My friends have iPod Nanos/videos and other various other brands...this is by bar the best value

Zen
- Pros: Lot of space for music and video. Sound is very good, and controls are easy.
- Cons: None that I can think of
Solid State? Pointless.
- Pros: Great Screen, played most of the videos I put on it, and the USB feature is a definite added bonus. Also, the ability to charge on any usb is handy, since there's no extra chargers to carry around!
- Cons: Unit broke after just over a month, no severe drops, no scratches (other than normal scuffs and such). I bought the MP3 player for it's lack of hard drive, so it could take more vibration than an mp3 player with a small hard drive (like the famous brands), since I like to run, and my car's suspension isn't cushy in the least (even cd's skip from time to time).
The unit completely froze up on me mid-song (and I was even sitting on a couch when it did it!).
Complete waste of money. I'm not a fan of the other guys, but it seems that they have this battle won, no serious competition from Creative anyway.
- Other Thoughts: Save your money, spend it better elsewhere.
Creative Zen 16GB
- Pros: I've had this player about 2 1/2 months now and the overall size, weight, and battery life of the player are good. The sound is good. The screen is clear and the basic menu is fairly intuitive. However most functions are better utilized by using the software and making any changes from a computer than trying to fidget around with the player to change settings.
- Cons: Performing more complex tasks than just playing the music become a pain. It's difficult to create playlists with the player itself, however is easier to do with the computer software. The navigation buttons are extremely vague, often turning volume up or down when you push the forward or backward sides of the hollow square button. The player also goes unrecognized nearly half the time I plug it into my computer. It also freezes during file transfers roughly 65% of the time. It cannot be plugged into ANY USB device/drive that doesn't have the Creative Zen Media Explorer Program installed or the player will need to be reset. So the player is basically useless if you're away from your home computer, so forget about sharing songs with friends. I bought a USB charger for the car thinking I could charge this and was mistaken. It would charge but it rendered the player software unusable until the music could be reinstalled from a computer with the Zen Media Explorer, resets would not fix it.
- Other Thoughts: It really is a shame that this player won't work more like the dolled up flashdrive it basically is. It has effectively no plug and play capability. Half the time I can't even plug it into the computer with the software installed on it. Seems very unstable for what it is. I wont be purchasing another one and may well end up giving this one away. The vague buttons and unreliable operation are enough to turn me off of Creative for a music player. I was hesitant to buy a player that didn't run of commercially available batteries anyways, and it now seems those fears were well founded. There's something to be said for the ability to simply replace a battery instead of needing certain plug or adapters and a particular computer to charge the device. I can always use rechargable AAA or AA's with some other player and avoid these problems all together.
