With MP3s ripped at high bit rates, the sound quality sounds as good as the original CD (I have not tried low bit rates). The FM radio works well in my (suburban) area. The 8 GB holds over 700 songs, all ripped at 320Kbps, and several video clips, including one 15 minute video clip. Cons: The unit gets confused if you power-off the unit in the middle of watching a video. A power cycle recovers it, though. Also, the earbud plug must be firmly and completely pressed into the unit. Other Thoughts: This is my first MP3 player. I bought a refurb for a good price and couldn't be more satisfied. As soon as I received the unit, I upgraded the firmware using the updater available on the Sandisk web site. Then I simply dragged-and-dropped the MP3 files from the PC onto the Fuze; it's not necessary to use more complicated sync tools. Then I started enjoying the unit. For an experiment, I also used the Sandisk media converter to convert a few photos and .AVI files and put them on the unit. They play fine without problems. I purchased a 16 GB microSDHC card for the unit, but so far, it is pretty much unused. I like the unit, and so do my kids. One saved up about half of the cost, and we bought a second refurb unit (4 GB) for him. My other kids seem pretty interested in doing the same thing, so I may be buying one or two more. FM radio works well and has decent sensitivity. Interface/menu is easy to use. I picked up a refurb for $40 and I couldn't be happier! Cons: Supplied headphones suck, pick up a pair of Seinnheiser cx300b's or similar. Also you can't charge it while you are listening to it; so you'll need to pick up a third party charger, but they're cheap. Other Thoughts: I wish that I'd bought 2 when they were on sale. Love using it so far. Cons: None. Even at the listed price, this is a good deal! Other Thoughts: Got 2 of these through one of Newegg's newsletter deals. Talk about a steal! You just can't beat Newegg! Since these are refurbished units, I'm trying to use all the features a lot in the first week or so, running down the battery, etc., to make sure everything is okay. These are going to be part of my children's Christmas gifts. Absolutely no complaints so far! NOTE: The units I received came marked (ie etched) on the outside casing that they are refurbs. Pros: Small size, color screen, highly configurable, drag-n-drop music management, no DRM (can copy music anywhere you want), radio, video, excellent battery life, etc etc etc. One of the best features in my opinion is the MicroSD slot. This allows you to add flash memory and make it hold far more. Cons: None really, but the screen is very glossy and shows scratches. Get a screen protector or device sleeve. Other Thoughts: I'd recommend this to anyone. DO NOT WORRY about the recertified part. No problems at all. Sandisk would not cover unit due to 30 day warranty. Beware of "Receritfied" items from SanDisk.
