Cons: It doesn't last and the company is horrible to deal with. The unit started making an audible buzz about a month and a half of use. It was sent back to Archos who took a few weeks to say they did not hear any problem. It was sent back and the buzz returned two days later.

Pros: Worked ok until the month my warranty expired on month 13. Ask yourself, "Why is this recertified in the first place... Better yet. Ask yourself "Why are so many of these always popping up as recertified units? If you get this. Don't say I didn't warn you.
Cons: Went bad for NO reason. Was used very lightly. Archos does not stand behind their product but instead tries to rook you for repair fee's. They wanted 161 dollars to repair. They lock the harddrive to the unit so you can not replace yourself, so you have to go through them to fix. I spent a small fortune on DVR docks, applications, plug-ins, etc and now they are all junk to me.
Other Thoughts: A = All R = "R" C = Customers H = Hate O = Our S = Service I wouldn't use another Archos unit if someone gave it to me. I am going to take this unit and put it on my concrete porch and video tape myself smashing it with a mallet. Then post on net in appreciation of Archos!

Rating: 2/5Not Android
Pros: Nice screen, better looking than an iPhone. Plays older Flash videos.
Cons: Bought this last second on Shell Shocker. Thought it was an Android OS. Now that Archos has their new Android based tablets out they have virtually no support for this one. Interface isn't as good as iPhone, touchscreen doesn't work as well. Should have returned it while I still could.
Other Thoughts: Some of the reviews on the Android version aren't encouraging either.

Rating: 4/5bigger ipod update
Pros: it broke... shipped it off to archos, and they gave me the NEW ARCHOS 5 INTERNET TABLET with android... not bad considering i paid $180 for it and ended up getting a $300+ device? The A5IT (achos 5 internet tablet) is so much better, but this one is good to (guess its just the app store i like so much?) good community behind it
Cons: it broke, the headphone jack got... shall i say "jacked?" it became loose... had to use old ipod for 10 days... but no biggie. was heavy gps costs $100+ (can't remember exactly) but A5IT is $40?!?!
Other Thoughts: don't bother calling the 800 number, never answer, and their voice mail box? always full!?!? so half an hour wasted

Pros: Neat little unit when I bought it.
I needed another coaster.
Cons: Does not hold up under light use. 1 year and 1 month in, the wi-fi stopped working and made a loud buzz like an electric razor.
Limited accessories and they cost a lot, if you can find them. For example the TV antenna they advertise. I could not find one anywhere but it was one of the reasons I bought it.
Poor product support. After dealing with Archos support, they told me it would cost me almost what I paid for the unit to fix.
Other Thoughts: I would never buy another Archos product again. I expect more from a vendor.

Rating: 1/5Can't use because wrong cable packaged
Pros: Unknown since I can't charge battery because the power/sync cable is the wrong one.
Cons: Unknown
Other Thoughts: I received this refurbished Archos 5 with the wrong cable from newegg who received it this way from Archos. Newegg says that all they can do it refund $15 for the cost of the cable, refund total but I would have to pay for return shipping ($7.89) or replace item and also pay for shipping cost. Can't contact Archos because you can't make a tech support claim without product key but you can only read product key when you power on which I can't without the cable since it doesn't have enough power to even read the product key page in the device. First lousy purchasing experience. should have stayed away from refurbed item; scratched and wrong cable.

Rating: 4/5Good, But not awesome
Pros: It holds everything, the amount of space it has is nice. It fits in your pocket! (a bit big though) Nice, high resolution screen. Plays movies well Browses the web well, and it has flash, but its flash player 9.. (leading to a con) since everything is flash player 10 now, it doesn't work.
Cons: It just isn't an iPod Touch, I've owned a touch for almost two years, and the audio is going out on it, after being spoiled with that. this just doesn't amount to it (and of course its jailbroken!) The touch screen works, its more stylus based, rather then finger-point based, hard to get used to some times, especially after getting so used to apples kinetic swipe touch.
the interface is very basic, and to do anything past the basic, you have to pay for, and even that is over-priced, and under developed. Hoping that a few mods and hacks will change this.
Crashes often, but doesn't take too long to get back. it has trouble loading media when you have a lot of it. (I just mean that it crashes, if you aren't patient with the scrolling)
....Aaaaannnnd the speaker sucks.
Other Thoughts: Overall it does fine for what I bought it for, which is solely for music. I'm not worried about movies, web browsing, or games, I have an iPad for that, iPads are nice, but they just don't fit in your pocket!

Rating: 4/5Very good (and bigger) Ipod touch
Pros: flash enabled web browser (take that ipad) very nice 480p screen (360p on ipod touch) price per gig is very good web browser is faster than apples (even ipad) android based free cables (just contact customer support) built in speaker (could use a little work)
Cons: have to pay for some codec support doesnt support itunes format at all (get a converter, like WMA-MP3.com) pay $20 bux to support the aac format (again just convert or rerip) no android market yet, but in works i hear! it does get finger printy but they give u a cloth for that unique adapter (but apple does same!) not workout friendly (heavy)
Other Thoughts: owned a ipod nano, touch and classic in the past (in that order)... the nano just wasnt big enough, touch, i liked it but price per gig not worth it, and classic good but limited i download my videos from youtube using a firefox addon, easy and effective overall if ur a technical person this is better than an ipod for u never going back to apple... these guys could take on the ipad/ipod touch industry easily
