It's pretty good
- Pros: I got it on sale for about $30, for that price it's worth it. The sound quality is pretty good as long as you have the Bass Boost on.
- Cons: For it's regular price of about $80, you will feel like you just got robbed.
- Other Thoughts: I read a lot of complaints about the remote not working with the battery it came with and there were also some complaints about the buttons not working properly, but mine works fine. People are saying it has bad range, but mine works from about 10 feet away, *as long as it is level with the unit and pointing at it* I haven't tried to go any farther than 10 feet though, my room is a little cramped.
Mediocre, but does the job.
- Pros: Price, when on sale. It does indeed turn my ipod on and play music at the designated hour, which is what I desired, after all.
- Cons: Cumbersome to tune the radio. Entire display is backlit blue, which prevents me from reading the time with my glasses off (not to mention it shines with the glory of heaven if I leave it on.)
- Other Thoughts: I was looking for a cheap ipod alarm clock. I found one that does the bare minimum. If you're okay with that, it'll work for you.

Performs like a cheap radio
- Pros: Small, loud, comes with a remote. Decent sound quality with the bass boost on. Looks kinda cool.
- Cons: Even the quietest setting is very loud. Not suitable for an office environment at all. Does not charge iPhones/new iPods. My remote didn't work. No external antenna! Radio reception is very poor at best, with no way to improve it since you can't adjust the nonexistent antenna.
- Other Thoughts: Plugging in an iPod while the radio is on will cause it to reset with a loud "POP" and lose all its settings. If I had seen it in person, I would not have bought this unit, even at the Shellshocker price I got it for.
Good, but VERY limited
- Pros: Pretty good sound, nice to have a clock and wake-to-ipod feature, decent construction
- Cons: It is *not* compatible with the 2nd or 3rd generation iPod Touch, no matter what they say - it won't charge the iPod without an adapter that costs more than this does. I've gone through two remotes, neither one works - I'll try the new battery trick next. Radio reception is purely horrible, not very usable at all.
- Other Thoughts: At the Newegg discounted price, this isn't a bad deal, although the cons above make it less of a good deal than it might otherwise be. Don't expect much, and don't pay more than $30, and you'll be okay.
You Get What You Pay For
- Pros: My review is based honestly on price point. Shell Shocker Price was excellent. Most affordable Ipod dock/radio/alarm clock especially when considering it has a remote. The sound is good (this isn't a Bose) the satellite speaker allows the option to fit the unit in just about any space. If you like to wake to an alarm - the built in will get you up quickly (its not the typical alarm pattern, and is VERY loud). You can also wake to radio, or last played ipod track. AUX input, battery back-up, remote with all functions, bright display (backlight can be turned off), many dock adaptors to fit any iPod (even the unsupported Touch), aesthetic design is better than most iHome products and other low-mid priced docks IMO.
- Cons: DOES NOT CHARGE 2nd Gen TOUCH as newegg's specs claim (No iPod software update will change that).
The manual does not indicate compatibility with any iPod Touch whatsoever - the newest iPod model in the manual is the nano -4th Gen! These were manufactured in '06 - resulting in the many reports of DOA remotes and incompatibility with Apple's newer iPod charging spec, but of course also the reason for the very low price.
The Remotes Aren't DOA, they just don't work with the supplied battery- Consider this a batteries Not Included Purchase and add a CR2032 3v coin cell to your order - maybe calling support ahead of time will get you one with an additional charge - especially if you point out that, an RMA is likely without it.
- Other Thoughts: Summary: Buy the unit if you can get it for less than $30 including shipping. For the price it is the best you can get. Plan on buying a battery for the remote (see detail below)
If you have an iPod Touch, and really want a charging dock, look elsewhere.
When my unit arrived, Yes, the remote was DOA (or so I thought) I metered the coin cell battery at 3v, I tried adjusting the terminal contacts, tried another coin cell that was slightly used, tried moving to a dark room to be sure of IR interference, etc.
I obtained an RMA, and when the replacement came I was sure I would have a working remote - Nope. Checked voltage, 2.27v should at least work 3" away, I wasn't about to spend $5-$8 on a "high quality coin cell" with no guarantees.
I then remembered that MacBooK remotes use the same coin cell and swapped batteries from one to the other the dock remote worked with the Mac remote battery (the mac remote continued to work with battery from the dock remote)
