OverviewCustomer ReviewSpecificationsProduct Tour
RoadTrip FM transmitter is your iPod’s best traveling companion! The FM transmitter is built into the adjustable iPod cradle. Just plug RoadTrip into your car’s 12V outlet and that’s it; no wires, no mess, no hassle! RoadTrip works with any dockable iPod, including 4th generation and mini. Once you select from any open FM channel from 88.1 to 107.9 using the digital tuner, the transmitter will remember your selection until you decide to change it.

RoadTrip will give you the rich, clear sound you crave, with far less background noise than on a cassette adaptor. By removing the transmitter from the cradle, you can take it into your home or office, so you can broadcast music from your Mac or PC (connection via included USB cable) to your home stereo or boom box. You can also broadcast audio for your business presentations. RoadTrip opens up a world of options for your iPod, on the road, at home, and at work!

Too-Tight Fit Trumps Tip-Top Transmitter

white Reviewed By: Sixty on 1/14/2008
Rating + 2
Tech Level Tech Level: high - Ownership: 1 month to 1 year
Pros: It took me all of one minute to find a suitable FM channel. I set it to 107.9 on day one, have only ever had to change stations once, and that was during an out-of-state roadtrip. Sound quality is pretty good, much better than I had expected after reading all the horror stories on these things, no static whatsoever once I got the station dialed in.
Cons: I have an iPod Touch and the biggest clear plastic holster that this product comes with (it comes with a few to fit the various iPod models) is a VERY tight fit with it, width-wise. So tight that the Touch will actually scratch the sides of the holster.
Other Thoughts: If it wasnt for the ultra-tight fit with my iPod Touch, I would have given this product 5 eggs. But it's a bit unnerving when every time you insert and remove your iPod, you're scratching the hell out of the product. I havent developed any scratches on the iPod itself, but who knows if that would hold true say a year from now. They should have used a foam surround to prevent scratching. I believe that there are probably iPod cases out there that will allow you to use this product without using the plastic holster at all, thus avoiding any scratching of anything, but I havent really looked into it. I tried using my clear acrylic Belkin case in lieu of the holster, but because the acrylic wraps around the bottom of the iPod, it doesnt plug into the dock as well as it should, resulting in disconnections when you hit a bump. Because of the tight fit, I give this product two eggs and went with the Griffin iTrip instead, which I have no complaints with.

It works just fine

Pros: Sleek, Black, it works well, better than the little ones that you have to put batteries in.
Cons: none
Other Thoughts: I bought one of the little transmitters that take AA batteries (it was Griffin also) and was not satisfied what so ever, lots of static, didn't last long, hard to find a channel that worked well. With this one that I purchased on a shell shocker deal works awesome. Being able to plug into the cars 12volt source makes a big difference.

The Ipod Nano Sleeve does not work

white Reviewed By: mattyk99 on 2/5/2009

Tech Level Tech Level: somewhat high - Ownership: 1 day to 1 week
This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Idea is great and pretty simple, seems like it should work with a lot of I-Pods. Just not mine even though it says it will.
Cons: I have a 2nd Generation I-Pod Nano, and when I use the sleeve and Nano, the Nano does not line up with the connector. The specifications say it works with 1st, 2nd I-Pod Nano's... well, Yea I'm sure if I just tried it with-out the sleeve and had the I-Pod all loosie goosie it would until the connector snapped of. The slot on the Nano and the connector are off by about .25". Can't return it for a refund. Such a mis-leading product and would expect better from New-egg. I can't be the first to run into this.

Very Solid FM Transmitter Option

white Reviewed By: The Gameniac on 2/5/2009

Tech Level Tech Level: high - Ownership: 1 month to 1 year
This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: * - Finds a good signal quickly. I literally hit the + button two times and found myself at 88.5 and I haven't had to change it once since owning it. The music comes in clear, with no static or interference at all, even when I drive across town (Tallahassee, FL).

* - Charges my 120 GB iPod Classic

* - Extensions that let you place it in a good spot. My cigarette lighter is pretty low in my car. It is right below my head unit and is close to my gear shift. However, with the extensions and the ability to shift it around, I was able to fit it very easily, and was able to get it into a very usable position when driving.

* - Sleek looking, nice color. I have seen some other transmitters that are plastic looking, cheap looking, and just plain ugly. This one has a nice shiny black coat, and it matches my black iPod very nicely. So not only is it very functional, but it is aesthetically pleasing as well.
Cons: * - Sound is a bit hollow. I am not really surprised by this. I wasn't expecting CD quality sound. So this really isn't a huge con. Just don't expect CD quality sound and it shouldn't be an issue. The sound comes in clear and crisp, it's just soft and a bit hollow. Turning up the volume usually fixes it though.

* - I have to jam my iPod into the holder a bit. Other reviewers have mentioned this, but the classic iPod doesn't quite fit into the holder. I can get the iPod in there with little to no issues, but its a bit snug and the iPod does scratch the sides of the plastic holder. However, it does not scratch the iPod at all. It seems to be better now that I have stretched it out and broken it in. I haven't tried the other holders obviously since I only own an iPod classic.
Other Thoughts: I bought this to use with my new 120 GB iPod Classic that I got for Christmas. I am in a debate over getting a new car so I didn't see the point in getting a new head unit that supports iPod connectivity until I figured out my car situation. So in the mean time, I needed something quick that would allow me to play my music from my iPod. I had heard nothing but horror stories from most FM transmitters, so I was hesitant at first, but for the price, and the good reviews this item received, I gave it a shot. So far, I have been pretty impressed with it, and it is serving its purpose very nicely. This is my first FM transmitter, so I can't really compare it other ones, but based on the stories I have heard, this one seems to be a pretty good bet. I would highly recommend it. Plus you can't really beat the price or the ridiculously fast Newegg shipping (I got this in like 3 days).
