Beauty and the Beast
- Pros: I'll forgo the normal rehashing of the features, you can read them on the spec sheet yourself. ;)
PRO: The IU is great, it's easy to navigate and a snap to learn even without reading the directions. I esp. like the screen organization with the turn indicator at the top left, a dashed bar will count up the left side of the display as you approach your turn. PRO: The display is super easy to see. Even in direct sunlight the display is still fully visible with only a slight washing out of color depth due to glare. 100% usable in any lighting situation. It also has a night-time display color configuration that wont burn your eyes out in the dark. PRO: The zoom control buttons and nighttime black-screen button as well as the other mechanical control devices are well placed and very usable even while driving. PRO: Very thin form factor with a rubber-like finish. If you don't want something that feels like a hunk of plastic, you have found your device. PRO: Automatic trip rerouting
- Cons: At this price point there are bound to be some flies in the ointment. Fortunately these are few and for me, not deal breakers.
CON: The M button on the top left only functions in some Games and a scant few sub-menus. There is a hack you can do to map the M button to any function you desire, including the MAIN MENU which is how the directions state it works. CON: The 1GB SD card (stores all maps, voices and games) that ships with the device is only partially compatible with the device. When turning the unit on the Navigation mode may be unavailable, removal and reinsertion of the card will remedy this but it's a pain to do every time you power up. The company has RMA'd mine and I am using a 256MB Kingmax card in the interim. NOTE: 1GB is the minimum size required to hold all the default maps and programs. I loaded only New England and NY onto my 256MB SD card. CON: The date/time setting will not persist after power down. I have set the device time/date multiple times and have
- Other Thoughts: Multi-point trip routing on this device is out. Enter in all the addresses for your specific POIs and simply go from one to the next. It's not true multi-point but it gets the job done. If you are looking to replace your MS Trips & Streets program, look else where. If you want a good GPS that will get you from point A to point B accurately and reliably this is worth a serious look.
Updated thoughts
- Pros: I have now used this device to conduct 2 cross country trips, each time taking different routes. I have also used it to learn my way around the new city to which I have moved. The trip rerouting is fast and accurate. By deslecting "Highways" as an option for trip calculation, I was able to use surface streets to route around a gridlocked interstate in a city I have never visited before. The alternate voices are a great option (the male U.S. voice is somewhat annoying to me.)
- Cons: The POI database is a little old now. The maps are dated from 2005 so both my old neighborhood and my new neighborhood are not listed on the map. Some POIs are more difficult to find than they should be. Searching the whole database or manually searching the POI listings, you almost never know which method to use.
- Other Thoughts: V7 has announced new maps and software updates for the Navigation 1000. These are free updates if you have purchased the device between certain dates. I understand that these updates will address all of the CONs I have mentioned. They will replace the 1GB SD card with a 2GB card loaded with new maps as well as update the routing engine. The downside to this is that you must send your device back to them. :(

v7 nav1000
- Pros: love it i have no problem with it i bought it 3 month ago works great
- Cons: its a good buy for price I'll give it 5 stars :D
- Other Thoughts: i recommend it just buy it
Good deal for the money
- Pros: Very nice unit for the money, calculates route quickly, and gets you where you want to go. Picks up satellites quickly and stays locked on. Small so it fits in my jacket pocket, video is decent. Sent it in for an update, they had it back to me in a week, with free 2007 maps.
- Cons: Doesn't always recognize the memory card, sometimes I have to eject it and put back in which is a minor inconvenience, 1g memory card is not big enough for all of the new maps, and even the new maps don't always have new developments. some times takes a strange route but always gets me there.
- Other Thoughts: The pro's and the price outweigh the cons by a long shot would deffinitely recommend this to a freind wanting a cheap reliable gps. I use it everyday for my job in small towns and small cities(500,000) and it gets me to my job sites every time!!
nice and handy
- Pros: soo far i had it for almost 1 week and i have no problem with it
- Cons: it gets me to the right places and it also plays music and videos and pictures witch is nice if u are bored or if u want to show ur friend pictures of ur family that will be be great
- Other Thoughts: this navigation is not bad for it price it works fine sooo what the hack buy it !!
