had a lot of potential but ultimately falls flat
- Pros: very kid friendly, lots of stuff to do, special events, ability to visit other towns through wifi, support for wii speak
- Cons: grass/snow wears away way too quickly and leaves your town with nothing but dirt, can get repetitive, town upkeep can require a lot of effort, no control over damage wifi visitors can do to your town, susceptible to wifi hackers
- Other Thoughts: The original Animal Crossing was a cult hit for the Gamecube, and then AC:Wild World developed a very devoted following for the DS, so expectations were very high for AC:City Folk. Unfortunately, there isn't much different from AC:WW, and the grass/snow issue has left most people with towns that look like deserts. Basically, the more you walk around your town, the faster the grass/snow wears down, and it doesn't grow back as quickly as it wears away. While this wouldn't seem like such a big deal, it prevents several gameplay elements and looks pretty terrible, and Nintendo has upset many of the game's most devoted players by rebuffing complaints through their phone support and ignoring hundreds of complaints on their nintendo.com tech forums. Ultimately, the only ways to save your grass are to restrict your own movement, which defeats the overall purpose of doing whatever you want in your 'alternate life', or to hack your Wii and use a cheat code. Wait for the sequel!
I don't get it, but kids seem to like it
- Pros: kids like it.
- Cons: wii friends codes. How do you go to find other people with AC? Boring for me, but my kids like it, so gave it 4 stars.

Just fine
- Pros: Even my "somewhat high understanding" of technical knowledge was not able to find a problem with this game. I can understand why it has such a following.
- Cons: None.
Kids love it.
- Pros: Great game the kids love it. They have almost forgot all other wii games except guitar hero. I have just purchased a second copy for their friend so they can use wii speak. NewEgg Rocks, best prices, best service and some items ship free.
- Cons: none
Great Casual Game
- Pros: If you like games like the Sims then this is the Wii game for you. There's no real point other than to collect things and money and upgrade your wardrobe and house etc. It's light-hearted, EXTREMELY well produced, and has interesting connectivity options. You can import games from the DS version (Wild World) or you can use your DS to transport your saved Wii game to a friend's Wii system. Pretty cool indeed, but most people won't use that second option.
- Cons: Not enough to do for a 'core' gamer like myself. Also, the NPC's are overly talkative, and thus the pace is kinda slow compared to what I expected. Wiimote control needs a tad bit of work, like when you're trying to pick flowers and you can't quite get the positioning right.
- Other Thoughts: I bought Animal Crossing WITH the WiiSpeak for $40 on NewEgg, but they sometimes run it for $35. Elsewhere it's always $70 for both.

If life were an endless vacation, what would you do? Go fishing, collect shells or watch fireworks with friends? Build a snowman, exchange presents with family or decorate your house for the holidays? Take a trip to the city, go on a shopping spree or visit friends from all over the globe? In Animal Crossing: City Folk, life moves at a relaxed pace, but the world brims with endless possibilities.
There's always something new to do. In the living, breathing world of Animal Crossing: City Folk, days and seasons pass in real time, so there's always something to discover. Catch fireflies in the summer, go trick-or-treating on Halloween or hunt for eggs on Bunny Day. If you're in the mood for something a little faster paced, take a bus to a new urban city area that's unique to Animal Crossing: City Folk.
Up to four people from your household can live and work together to build the perfect town. Design clothes and patterns, write letters and post messages on the bulletin board for each other, or invite up to three friends to visit your town using Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. With the new WiiSpeak microphone, it's like you're all in the same room.
Get to know your neighbors. The heart of Animal Crossing: City Folk is building relationships with the animals in your town as well as with other players. Befriend your animal neighbors by exchanging letters, gifts and favors. Animals can also move from town to town, bringing their memories and stories from their old towns with them. And since animals are notoriously loose-lipped, they spill all the juicy details.
Express your personal style. Customize your town, your house and yourself by collecting bugs, fish, fossils, art, furniture, clothes and accessories. You can also go to the salon in the city to change your hairstyle and get a Mii makeover. Plus, if you design clothes in the tailor's shop, animals will wear them and maybe even bring them to other towns. |
