Good remote, tho not perfect
- Pros: Absolutely simplifies use of everything in your home entertainment center, from DVD to cable to CDs to radio. Setup is a piece of cake, and gives you a good level of control over how you want things to work (DVD sound comes from amplifier, not tv speakers for example). Pretty much guaranteed to never be obselete, as the online database is continually updated. The help feature works well, especially if a component doesn't receive a command properly the first go around.
- Cons: Circular design of keys isn't good. With my other remotes I could do everything by feel, since all these buttons are the same size and shape, I usually have to look at the remote to make sure I have the right button. Not a huge deal, but something to be aware of. If you prefer to go directly to channels by punching in the numbers, you'll find the location of the numbers on the bottom to be uncomfortable. Limited component level control (for setup, etc.)
- Other Thoughts: The remote absolutely simplified operation of my home theater. In some cases, it even works better than the OEM remote. Now when mom comes to visit, she'll actually be able to turn on and watch tv without calling me at work. :) The one thing that's not so obvious is that if you need to get into the setup of any of your devices, you'll probably want to use the original remotes. For example, there doesn't seem to be a way to adjust the brightness, contrast, etc. on the tv using the remote. Overall, I'm pretty pleased with it, if you do need more granular control on a frequent basis, you'll probably find yourself frustrated with it. For day to day use with no tinkering, it's great.
Good Remote
- Pros: I like the remote a lot. It has replaced 4 remotes including one oddball piece that not too many use. The activity macros a really nice.
- Cons: Small buttons, setup is too widget based, hard to tweak specific settings in the software. You can customize most anything...if only you could find it.
relatively good remote
- Pros: Overall the activity functions of the remote are good. As well as being able to map each individual key in the remote per device. Build is solid and the remote is comfortable in your hand. Backlighting is definetly a plus/
- Cons: The keys are on the small side, and the software times out to early, especially when you are in the middle of programming the whole remote over again.
- Other Thoughts: The price is on the high side, but I can understand where the cost of the device is. Definetly would consider another Harmony, just not one with a circular keypad design
