4 out of 5 eggsWell, THAT was easy.

Pros: Other than forcing me to break out a magnifying glass to read the model numbers off the back of my devices, this was dead-simple to set up. Now controlling HDTV, TiVO, Samsung Home Theater and media pc with ONE remote instead of 2-3. Niiiice.

Cons: "Activity" buttons are pretty small, making for smaller print area on them - hard to see, but thank goodness they're color-coded!
Harmony pc software is designed for a 1024x768 display, which my HDTV isn't :). Small interface tweak would help.

Other Thoughts: Using the Harmony software on the pc to make the remote switch to the pc for input very intuitive.

5 out of 5 eggsLike New

Pros: Just like a brand new 688, but at 1/2 the price.

Cons: Generic box, no instructions/software. The box will get tossed and you will want to download the latests software anyways.

Other Thoughts: Bought to replace another 688 that the buttons were wearing out on after 4 years of use. Clicked "replace remote" and my new remote was instantly programmed.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat!!

Pros: Just great! It does everything with the touch of a button. If I want to turn on my TV and direct tv satallite box and my onkyo audio AV reciever at the same time, all in there correct settings, I just touch one button. If I decide I want to switch to DVD, I press one button and it changes my tv input, my onkyo input to the correct settings, then turns on my dvd player, WITH THE TOUCH OF ONE BUTTON!!!

The harmony software was easy to figure out for me. They must have the correct programming for every single peice of electronics out there. my onkyo reciever is over 10 years old, and this remote fully controls it. I have a cheaper TV brand, insignia, and it works with it.

I was tired of using two remotes, because the direct tv univeral remote is fully compatible with the insignia brand. I could change channels and volume. But if i wanted to change inputs or change picture settins I would have to use other remote. It was annoying. Now I just have one remote for it all!!!

Cons: No cons for me. I could understand how the software might be a little confusing at first for some, espcially with the cheaper electronics like my insignia required some manual adjustment on the software. This is really it though, not a con really, it didnt take long to figure it out.

Other Thoughts: Its wonderful. And not difficult. There is some negative comments about the button configuration, which I can understand, but i decently sized guy 6 ft, 210 lbs, and I really dont have many problems pressing the buttons here. It also has an option to glow in the dark which comes in handy if the lights are off.

2 out of 5 eggsLogitec makes incredibly bad programming code

Pros: It is a good remote, once you plow through the incredibly bad software interface

Cons: If you upgrade or change your system, good luck. You'll need to go back through the tedious non-brand specific programming process all over again. You cannot simply 'change' a TV or player in a setup. Worse, the software logs into logitec servers and logs out while you are doing your large and tedious task losing all of your work. Incredible.

Other Thoughts: For me, the kicker with these guys is that even the options available for each device remote you are trying to match is just a generalized list. One would think that you could at least gain some benefit from this crude logging into a server to do your setup. I hated it and the remote now just sits there waiting for an actual competent code writer to fix their code. Anyone?

2 out of 5 eggsLogitech Harmony 688

Pros: Like all the Harmony remotes it can be programmed to control many devices

Cons: Very small buttons, very close together,
not laid out very well

Other Thoughts: Buy the model 670 if you get the chance. This one is not very comfortable to use. I will be looking for another 670 to replace it.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat remote

Pros: I own two of these remotes. One I've had for over 5 years and about 3 for the other. Easy to program, easy to use, easy for the wife to understand. Sure, the newer remotes may offer more bells and whistles, but I prefer this model over any of the newer Logitech remotes.

Cons: The screen cracked after a 4 foot fall but that's to be expected when it hit ceramic tile, I guess.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Remote

Pros: This is a great remote and is very easy to program. As with all products of this type there is some trial and error involved however it's really easy this way.

Cons: The only bad thing about the remote is it runs through batteries quickly. All of the buttons and the led screen light up when using it and it drains the 2 aaa batteries in only a couple of weeks of use.

Other Thoughts: I've been looking for a remote that will handle all of my devices. This is the first one I've seen that controls my Buffalo Link Theater media player.

4 out of 5 eggsNice

Pros: Computer based setup is nice, although the actual installation was a bit akward. The wizards to setup what you want it to do are very straight forward and simple to program. Seems to be working pretty good with all of my components so far, with the exception of the myhd-130 in my HTPC box.

Cons: I wish the buttons were more distinct. Can't feel my way around the remote to get the button I want because they are too close to one another, and all too similar. The LCD doesn't really display very useful information for some of my devices. The top function buttons aren't translucent and have very small text on them, making them indecipherable to those with bad vision.

Other Thoughts: All in all, it does a decent job, but I would have probablly opted for something I could use more blindly.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Easy setup, simple use, looks good. Worked with all devices I have.

Cons: Buttons are a bit awkward, not a big problem but could possibly be a bit bigger.

Other Thoughts: Great product, other than a slight dislike of the buttons product is great. Would purchase again.
