Don't listen to uneducated reviews!
- Pros: This thing does EXACTLY what it says it does. It's not as flashy as the V565 or V665, and doesn't come with all the bells and whistles of a comparable Onkyo, but for all my looking it's the cheapest decent 5.1 receiver that does HD audio via HDMI. If you want HD audio via HDMI and don't need 7.1 surround, you should definitely consider this receiver!
Also, it's got an MP3 "headphone" input on the front so you can hook your ipod or mp3 player right up on the front... VERY handy!
- Cons: Uneducated reviewers... This thing ABSOLUTELY DOES pass HD audio through an HDMI cable unlike the other reviewer posted. I set it up on first try. Users need to make sure they are outputting audio from thier blu-ray player correctly before posting.
Other than that, it could have better binding posts for all 5 speaker outs. Only two nice 'banana' hookups for the front speakers, the other three are clamp style hook-ups.
No pre-outs... but it's a $300 receiver... what do you expect!?
- Other Thoughts: I spent about a month looking for the best cheaper option for a 5.1 receiver that has all the new HD audio features and can pass them through HDMI. This is the best one I was able to find. Other receivers in the $400 price range and up have a lot more features and will be a bit nicer in general, but you'd be hard pressed to find a new reciever (2009 model, not refurb) that does HD audio for this price!
Great receiver!
- Pros: 4 HDMI Inputs that DO passthrough, and process HD audio. I don't know what that other guy was talking about. Handles Dolby TrueHD and DTS-MA for under $350.00! 5.1 system, but has preouts for 7.1 as long as you have powered surround back speakers! Great for an apartment or townhouse/condo. Has enough juice to get the job done, with awesome sound processing. Autoconfig is accurate, quick, and painless.
- Cons: Funky remote with small buttons, but definately gets the job done. Could have a little more power. No OSD. (but hey, it's cheap). No upscaling (but hey, it's cheap)
- Other Thoughts: Wonderful HD audio system without the bells and whissles of it's big brothers, but costs less. This is a great entry level HD audio receiver. Comes ready to power 5.1 speakers, but supports 7.1 so long as you back speakers are powered. (just thought i'd point that out again) NewEGG for the win!

best bang for my buck
- Pros: I picked the cheapest true HDMI receiver I can buy. And I am very pleased by my choice. It does the job very well. Its got various Yamaha DSP Movie modes but I prefer old school Dolby Pro Logic II Music and Movies. There are 4 HDMI so should be enough for most. On standby it does remember which HDMI input was last being used and does a signal pass through for audio as well as video. The included mic does the speaker setup a breeze. I watched 3 movies back to back and this baby does not run hot, very mildly warn I say but I have it in an open back AV unit. The 7 channel stereo is a great feature to use for parties when all you really need is enough music to cover the whole room but not too loud. I mostly keep this at around -20 for movie and -30 for music but there is enough volume to turn you deffffff
- Cons: The music modes are retarted, only 1 that I sometimes use is the Cellar Club. But then again I dont listen to Opera music at all
6 months and going strong
- Pros: I've had this for 6 months and am very happy so far. I use it for TV, DVD and iPod and it sounds great with my Energy Take Classic 5.1 speakers. I have not used any advanced features yet but suspect I'll be even more pleasantly surprised.
- Cons: From what I remember, it was a pain to connect the bare speaker wire to the spring-loaded clips in the back. That is probably an issue with other receivers as well.
Great receiver and good price point!
- Pros: 4 HDMI ports. Plenty of audio inputs and terrific power at a low price. YPAO speaker config is a nice touch.
- Cons: None so far.
- Other Thoughts: In a pinch, I needed to replace my Bose Lifestyle 12 piece of trash. I didn't have a ton of extra cash on hand so I needed to build a system limited fundss. This was the receiver I chose and I couldn't be happier. My Samsung 40" LCD, Comcast HD Box and Xbox360 are all connected via the HDMI passthroughs. This receiver is handling it nicely and producing a terrific sound. I am using it with a cheap set of Yamaha speakers (surprisingly they sound fantastic!) and an Infinity BU-120 100W Sub. (Yes I know about this sub but got it for free).
Blu Ray ready, Bluetooth ready, iPod dock, 5.1 with 105 Watts per channel out @ 6ohms. What more can you ask for at $329?
To the person that said it doesn't produce sound through HDMI? Either check your cables or check the config. My receiver is pumping perfect sound from my 360 with just HDMI.
