EXCELLENT DVD FOR DUMMIES LIKE ME
- Pros: NICE LOOKING UNIT,STRAIGHT FORWARD INSTRUCTION MANUAL, FROM PAGE 1 TO THE OTHER END. EASY SETUP, NO TUNER TO DEAL WITH. BRIGHT SCREEN, CLEAN LOOKING UNIT. JUST HOOK UP THE RCA COMPONENT CABLES, FOLLOW THE MANUAL INSTURCTIONS AND YOU ARE GOOD TO GO, NICE BRILLIANT OPTIONS SCREEN. YOU DON'T EVEN HAVE TO TOUCH THE COXIAL CABLES FROM YOUR DISH OR CABLE BOX. THE UPCONVERSION IS GREAT WITH ALL THE SELECTIONS.
- Cons: NONE SO FAR...........DARN IT! ! ! !
- Other Thoughts: SMALL PROBLEM HOOKING UP TO MY WIFE'S TV (15 YRS OLD). IT HAD THE RCA INPUT JACKS, BUT NO INPUT OPTION ON THE REMOTE. I CALLED TOSHIBA TALKED TO THEIR TECH. SUPPORT (THEY ARE GREAT PEOPLE). IF YOU HAVE AN OLD TV THAT DOES HAVE RCA INPUTS BUT NO (INPUT OPTIONS) ON THE REMOTE). SIMPLE STARUP YOUR TOSHIBA DVD RECORDER, THEN CHANNEL DOWN THRU YOUR CHANNELS, SOONER OR LATER YOU WILL COME UPON A CHANNEL THAT IS RECOGNIZED BY YOUR TOSHIBA. THIS WILL BE YOUR CHANNEL TO USE FOR RECORDING. SO NOW MY WIFE'S TV WITH THE TOSHIBA WORKS ON CHANNEL 91..IT'S LIKE HAVING IT ON CHANNEL 3. HER TV IS SO OLD, THIS IS YOUR REMEDY. THE TOSHIBA IS WORTH EVERY PENNY FOR ALL THE GOODIES YOU GET. GO FOR IT.
Very Satisfied with This Unit
- Pros: Very easy to use, good manual, and great feature set. I use it to record programs off of my TiVo. It beats LAN transfer, mastering, and burning hands down - and it takes only a real-time hour instead of two-three hours for each show. Upconversion looks great.
- Cons: As noted by another reviewer, it is a little slow to load DVDs. Other than that, it is a great deal.

Great DVD recorder
- Pros: I wish I has bought this instead of the Vista 64-bit media center - would have been a LOT cheaper!! This recorder does everything I need it to do - it works with my DishNetwork, it is programmable, it records at various lengths, is quiet and it works with a variety of DVDs.
- Cons: None to far.
- Other Thoughts: Great VCR replacement. Works with my flat panel, my wireless network, and Disk Network
good stuff
- Pros: I am on my 4th home dvd recorder in the last 5 years or so. GoVideo = awful , RCA = awful , LG = ok once I replaced the burner...This Toshiba, although I only have it for a month, does stuff the way it is supposed to be done! Yes, it might be a little slow to load a dvd, and yes, it doesnt have a tuner (which I dont need) but it is a simple machine doing what it was meant to do!
- Cons: none
- Other Thoughts: none
Excellent Basic DVD Recorder
- Pros: I was looking for a basic, no frills DVD Recorder, and this is an excellent product. So far, it plays everything that's been thrown at it, and recording is straight forward as well. Picture quality is very good, and so are the various functions (freeze frame, fast forward, slo-mo, etc.).
Couldn't ask for anything more.
- Cons: As some other posts have said, the remote control is generic and "lightweight." The layout and function is decent, but it is not back-lit, and the writing can be hard to read in dim light.
But it is so straight forward and simple as remotes go, there should be no confusion after a few uses.
Also, while the DVD is loading, there is static on the screen -- there is no "blackout" screen feature.
- Other Thoughts: No complaints. If you want a good basic recorder, this is the one to get. Toshiba has never disappointed me.
