Nearly perfect with 2.0 firmware!
- Pros: Voice recognition for ipod music and calling out on the phone. This works very well. Built in Navigation that works ok. Bright screen, built in blue tooth, HD radio ready. Shows album art from IPod, 30 Second boot up time till music and map is available, 1 min 40 seconds from boot up for blue tooth phone available.
- Cons: -It's too bad the boot up time can't be say 15 seconds, but it is windows CE so that probably isn't possible. -The blue tooth even with the 2.0 firmware is still buggy with the iphone 3g, especially with the control of calls with on screen status. it takes 10 seconds for the call status screen to go away after you end the call and appear when starting one. It also is quiet and not always easy to hear, even with everything setup properly.
-There is no voice recognition for inputting addresses into gps or finding poi. It is something that would of been nice given it already has VR for ipod and bluetooth. - In the 2d map mode, its stuck so the map always faces north, so the icon of your position turns on to roads, instead of the map moving around. - Pioneer did a public beta test with this unit and it took 5 months and 2 firmware updates to get it reasonable. - Inaccurate maps The
- Other Thoughts: Pioneer has actually fixed all the big issues with the latest 2.0 firmware. it's a great unit now and all the previous bugs have been fixed, things like long 1 minute plus boot up times, issues with the ipod touch, a lot of issues with blue tooth, responsiveness of the screen buttons, and the map scrolling. The unit now boots in 30 to 40 seconds before the map screen is available. I really hope they release more updates in the future. This unit is of good quality, but I hope they do their part to make it as perfect as possible, which means at least one more update. Especially for the blue tooth issues and minor bugs still present. I am sure there are a lot of people out there who bought this only to return it, and now Pioneers reputation is damaged. Give it another try if you had it before, it's the all in one navigation system to beat, hands down!
Eeh......
- Pros: Well the iPhone works well with it since it charges using usb rather than the firewire pinout on the dock connector.
The screen is nice and bright and is not hard to see in direct sunlight. Having the bluetooth module in it is nice. The GPS hasn't tried to kill me yet.
- Cons: Slow startup and basic functions. This thing has lag like a 14.4 modem.
I have dealt with it for a while now and finally had enough.
It takes up to 2 min. to fully start and be usable.
being a dual din 5.8" is kind of small screen wise.
I just replaced it with an avic-z3
- Other Thoughts: .....not bad but not great......

Great Value
- Pros: This head unit has everything I wanted Nav, Bluetooth, MP3. The Nav works good not garmin good but close enough. I have the 700BT so I don't know about the MSN direct features but I would like to check them out. Bluetooth works great syncs with my T-Mobile Dash no problem, all I have to do is get in my car and turn it on.
- Cons: Long boot time. You can speed that up by turning off VR catalog mode and starting it with the fm radio playing rather than I-Pod, USB, SD. The Voice command features are the worst! It never works right and it will crash the OS. I'm not in to voice command so it's not that big of a deal for me I just avoid using voice features.
- Other Thoughts: I love this unit. Having this in my 05 4Runner makes it better. I feel like im driving a brand new BMW now. This head unit has lots of features that you need to figure out over about a week of using it in your car. If your the type of person who gets frustrated easly or takes it personaly when somthing dosent work exactly the way you want it to be warned. If your like me and your in to car audio and want all the features the best new cars have get this head unit I think it is a great value. I will be back with a video review.
Lovin' It
- Pros: Features, Features, Features. GPS, Love it, DVD MP3's, Love it, Bluetooth Sync, Live it. GPS system POI's are great, fast route calc, and even tells you that you are speeding if you turn setting on.
- Cons: Long Start Time, still getting used to speech system (or system is getting used to me).
- Other Thoughts: took me a while to import my iPhone Contacts, you need to hook any iPhone/iPod Cable, to usb then go to import contacts and it will connect and download! Wish you could change song during start up, my wife doesn't like my tastes all the time and she cant change it until it is started.
Fail
- Pros: The GPS is well integrated. DIVX, the must have feature. I love having access to the CD/DVD slot without folding the screen down. The SD slot is great and what really sold me on this unit. looks nice ie: girls like it
- Cons: Screen looks bad compared to units from other vendors, Preamps outs are VERY noisy! Bass is sloppy. Sound quality is decidedly bad. This unit is not for music. I have not been able to hear the GPS voice or people on the phone - just no sound. There is always noise coming from the speakers when the unit is on. No FLAC support. Constant annoying popups.
- Other Thoughts: This unit is awesome in concept. This version of the product truly does everything, but poorly. I say stay far away for another year or two. Were aren't there yet. This unit gets an F for FAIL!
