Watch movies, play games and listen to music with unmatched clarity thanks to Dolby TrueHD, dts-HD Master Audio and other premium decoding. You’ll hear every whisper, feel every explosion and never miss a beat.
Complete your high-definition entertainment center with the luxury receiver, which has six HDMI inputs for your Blu-ray player, gaming console, set-top box and more. Component- and composite-video will also enjoy better resolution at 1080p due to upscaling by Faroudja DCDi technology. The TX-NR807 is also iPod-ready and can be connected by a separately sold dock.
Everything you listen to will sound great with a number of Audyssey innovations, including MultEQ for room correction and speaker calibration. Dynamic EQ adjusts loudness to proper levels. Dynamic Volume maintains optimal listening levels and dynamic range. Sit back, relax and let the TX-NR807 handle every aspect of your home theater today!
Pros: Comapred this to 607, 707 and RC180 - found this to be the best on the features - lots of features and network port works great. I was able to listen music (mp3) on my home PC within minutes and as well as online radio stations. Audessy works great, it is heavy and seems like a quality product
Cons: It gets warm and might be normal, I need to buy some cooling fans to place on the top as my buit in shelves have glass door with no ventillation.
Other Thoughts: This is my first Onkyo and pleased with it, went with network port due to firmware upgrade capabillity. I got it good price here at my local retailer.

Very clean and detailed sound
Reviewed By: Dathon on 12/27/2009
Tech Level: high - Ownership: 1 week to 1 month
This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: I have this receiver hooked up to my full Paradigm Monitor 9 5.1 package, with CC-290, ADP-390 surrounds, and DSP-3200 sub. The 807 has a good amount of power and makes the Paradigm's sound great! It can drive my 5.1ch very loud if needed, but also remain very detailed and clean sounding. Pure mode sounds great to me for most music, but without a sub, the bass is a little lacking. It really depends on the music. Jazz and pop music sound good with this receiver. Although if you listen to hip-hop or heavy metal, you may want to look elsewhere for more "grunt" and "punch".
The "soundstage" is much better than the Onkyo 607. I have my 607 here, and switched back and forth between receivers. There is a very noticeable improvement in sound quality. The 807 opens up these speakers like I never heard them before. Everything is much more balanced with the 807, even with Audyssey turned off! I use a Radio Shack meter and measured 100db+ in 1000sq room. Loud and dynamic enough for me.
Cons: I haven't ran into many problems yet. Except that the receiver did lock up twice on me, when switching to the NET input, and I had to pull the plug.
Internet Radio: Sirius switches stations sometimes for no apparent reason. Sometimes every ten minutes. This is rather annoying, and hope that Onkyo fixes this problem.
HD Radio: It should have been built-in instead of add-on. The Sirius internet radio that plays at 128kb, sounds better than most HD Radio stations in my area. I don't recommend the HD Radio add-on. Use internet radio instead! It also has a terrible OSD on the TV. My TV background stays BLUE. You can't make the OSD stay on. The internet radio has much better GUI with artist/song.
Firmware Update: One annoying thing...If you choose firmware update, and there is NO update, you have to go to receiver and press power button to turn it off. Then back on, for the receiver to work again. The remote becomes non-responsive when in update mode. Who designed this firmware?
Other Thoughts: I previously had an Onkyo TX-SR607. Although the 607 would get loud, it sounded a little "muddy" and the soundstage was very narrow sounding.
The "clicking" sound is normal and shouldn't be seen as a "con", like other people here have mentioned. There are heavy-duty relays that switch, depending on the DSP mode, and number of speakers that need to be driven.
The network port is 10/100, so it DOES support 100Mb. 100Mb Ethernet: The other reviewer is mistaken. My router is connected right now to it at 100Mb. Even if it was 10Mb, that is still fast enough.
Heat: I don't see it as an issue, unless you have it in a closed cabinet or stand.
Bi-Amp: The connections allow you to bi-wire your fronts, while still being able to use surrounds and Front-Highs. With the 607, the front-high posts were used for bi-amp.
Receiver power: Even though the THX rating has been lowered from Ultra, compared to the older Onkyo 805, there still seems to be good power for 5.1ch. Star Trek movie was

Concert Level Sound
Reviewed By: TinksMeOff on 1/18/2010
Tech Level: somewhat high - Ownership: 1 month to 1 year
This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Onkyo has the best voice clarity with no ear strain at any volume level for TV/Movie watching. The sound isn't as "safe" as the Denon 3808 and Onkyo pulls it off brilliantly in all audio settings. Tons of different audio settings and the Manual describes each setting adequately
DVD Concerts can go to a volume that I can't bear.
Onkyo menu and remote are easy to comprehend (unlike my Denon 3808).
Faroudja Video processing makes my 1999 Elite Projection TV look better then ever to the point it feels like I got a new TV too. Video Processing is better 'by a little' than my Denon 3808. Video modes switch over quickly. I am using component w/optical connections.
Than Manual is well thought out, good English and easy to understand even for novices.
My NR807 does not get hot even at high volume levels but then again, the receiver is sitting on top of my Projection TV in the open with a ceiling fan overhead. Other Onkyo Receivers and my Denon 3808 get hotter than the
Cons: A clicking sound will occur during pause moments as the audio makes an adjustment to no sound and then sound again. So if you watch TV and you get a pause in audio, you also get click click. Clicking also occurs when changing the audio settings. All Onkyo models have done this clicking since I have been buying them for 3 decades now. It has never bother me but can be a pet peeve to some. The Denon 3808 does not have a clicking mode.
There are 3 coaxial and 2 optical inputs on the back of the receiver. The 3rd optical input is on the front panel along with a composite connection. Not quite sure why Onkyo chose that interface setup but I don't like it. Perhaps camcorders are intended there.
Other Thoughts: During my initial testing, I could not get the volume very high without it cutting out of power. I thought I reached the volume limit of this model and sent an email to Onkyo Support looking for a good Amp to boost power. They shot me an email within 24hrs stating I have a bad speaker that would be causing the cutting of power. I troubleshooted my speakers found a bad Klisch Front Left. Bought $1500 worth of Klipsch speakers sets brand new (kept my existing Klipsch front center and Klipsch sub woofer) and added SR1 front highs & backs, RB-61 fronts and RS-52 sides for 9.1 in a 12' X 22' living room setup system longways so the Front Wides probably would not have any effect. It is working at concert level now and will actually push a level of volume that I can not tolerate.
The Front Highs meshing with the Front Lows and using the RS-52 for sides is a theater immersion experience. All audio fills the tiny living room in perfect harmony.

Pros: The Audyssey setup was very straight forward and made things so much easier. The onscreen setup was something new for me, but now I could never go back to my old Sony STR-V333ES. It really doesn’t get that hot at all. Does a great decoding job of everything I throw at it.
Cons: I give it four stars only because I also felt a little cheated by Onkyo not including an HD radio tuner and I really should have got an iPod dock. Lastly, the remote needs backlit buttons and is personally now my biggest annoyance. There's nothing that annoys me faster than the phone ringing during a movie and I can't even find a pause butting without getting up and turning a light on. Maybe it's just me?
Other Thoughts: I have this receiver in a theater room setup that is very dark during use. I have to turn a light on or try to read the darn remote by projector glow since the buttons have no backlight. The source buttons have backlight once you press them to confirm your selection, but you have no way of telling what your pressing till you do. The remotes worthless on the dark for anything other than volume up and down unless you’re one of those people who can memorize buttons easily. I'm not that person and need backlights. When taking everything into consideration....price, features, sound quality;..... I'm happy I bought it.

Pros: great sound unmatched features price internet radio DLNA easy firmware update great looks
Cons: Bugs (now fixed)
Other Thoughts: I had read about the "no sound" issue but I ordered one anyway. I received the 807 and proceded to connect and run through the setup. First thing I did was update the firmware which Onkyo makes easy with my wired network connection. It immediately found my Win 7 PCs and was able to stream my MP3 library. Pandora worked well too.
Went away for the weekend and when I returned I had no sound and no network connection. I unplugged the unit and plugged it back in and the sound and network were back. To be safe I reset the receiver to factory defaults and ran throung the setup again. Everything seems to work well again. Went on vacation for two weeks. When I returned, no sound and no network. Immediately decided to ask Newegg for an exchange it had been one month and one day since Newegg shipped it and they wouldn't allow an exchange. Bummer! I went online looking for a solution and found that Onkyo had just released a firmware upgrade to fix the problem. Now I am pleased!!

Pros: Purchased this unit last week. The sound is outstanding. The menu is easy to use and movies and music sound amazing. The clarity and power will blow you away. It is a heavy unit but this is a good thing. There are lots of features and goodies on this receiver but don't be scared....it is very easy to use, navigate and tweak this unit.
Cons: now to the reason for 3 eggs out of 5. I have to return the unit for a replacement because there is no sound when using the NET feature. The unit was defective. Newegg covered the shipping and I sent it back and currently waiting on a new unit.
Other Thoughts: Setup - Paradigm monitor 7's version 5 with paradigm cc290 center channel with custom dayton titanic subwoofer.
