Pros: Can record 2 programs at the same time, or watch one and record another at the same time. With a 250gb hardrive, you can record almost anything. Easy format switching on the box. You can litterally record an entire week of programming and watch it when you want. This is the way tv should always be.

Cons: Not enough output options. It's unfortunate to have such a kick a__ DVR, with so few options to output your video to DVD. The on screen menus drove me nuts. They still do, but Im getting used it. The directv-to-tivo is rather clunky and if I had to guess the original tv is much better. You can't change the mode (480/780/1080) with the remote? For some reason you can only do that on the box. I HAVE TO GET UP!? lol.. Too expensive and Directv wants almost 800 bucks for this thing so they actually thijnk you will send it back to them if you let your lease expire.. lol, yeah okay. They don't seem to have thought this out very well. This DVR is mine, I paid for it. I should not have to yell at a poor customer service person (who doesnt speak english) about this.

Other Thoughts: Anyways, it's a good product that does what you want. But it almost seems like it was rushed out before any user tests were done. Also, the leasing/buying thing is a really bad issue. When we purchase here at newegg it doesnt say anything about it being a lease - Directv then blames them. The fact is DirecTV is selling this thing for 300 almost everywhere. I allready had a 2 year lease so I don't care. But others will... This will probably end up being why I start to hate Directv. Their like the mafia. Also, Directv has 1 pay per view chanel.. errm?

5 out of 5 eggsfrom newegg = owned, not leased (software upgrade also)

Pros: 2 HD tuners while you watch a 3rd program. What more could you want? The software has a rumored upgrade this summer so when that happens, expect a faster unit. If you have OTA, this is a wonderful unit and will work for years to come for you.

Cons: 250 gigs fills up fast with HD. You will need another hard drive if you record as much as me. Until the update, recording with 2 HD channels tuned takes a while.

Other Thoughts: tell directv you got it from newegg and it will be owned. Ask for the access card dept. or tell them you paid 749 for it, that's the magical number the CSR told me was owned vs leased.

4 out of 5 eggsLove it but confused

Pros: Love it, but just got my Direct-TV bill and it says the receiver is a lease. I called Direct-TV and they claim I am leasing it from them.... Confused, I thought I bought it, never signed a lease agreement.

Cons: I guess ownership of the box.

Other Thoughts: Any thoughts.

4 out of 5 eggsHR10250

Pros: The idea behind this box is excellent. I can schedule to record programs a month ahead of time...why? I have my own reasons... I should have bought this box long ago.

Cons: Software is slow and picking channels are not quick enough.
Directv thinks they own this equipment and they will hook you up with a 2 years subscription (5.99/month). It took 2 calls and several threats of leaving them if they would not change my account to show this box as "own" and not a "leased".

My suggestion: Do not let them get away with this.

Other Thoughts: Setting up the system was easy, but in order to get the service started you will need to call Directv Customer Service and be ready to spend a few hour with them.
You will need to hook up two cable lines to this box so it will work as it was meant.

5 out of 5 eggsVery good product

Pros: Pristine clean resolution using HDMI port. Looks perfect on my LCD. ATSC tuners a BIG plus. Two DTV antenna tuners allows you to record two shows at once. TiVo software is wonderful, much better than DVR interface on my other receiver. HD signal is absolutely perfect, watching the Miami Heat beat the Pistons in HD makes every peny spent on my home theater system worth it. 1080i support through HDMI. And EXCELLENT unit overall.

Cons: Guide is S L O W. Moving through the pages and pages of channels is EXTREMELY tedious.

Other Thoughts: This is an excellent unit, and for 100$ less than all other major retailers and no 2 year contract, it can't be beat. Newegg rules.

4 out of 5 eggsNo problems!

Pros: Fixed HD resolution -- was able to customize it for my plasma TV, HDMI interface, ease of setup

Cons: Sluggish guide -- seems to work better when I set it to the Tivo style instead of the DirecTV style, older software (3.1.5f), the remote responsiveness is slow at times. Selecting an OTA HD channel requires entering channel number with a dash (i.e. 3-1) but works fine with the favorite channels set, does not have an NTSC tuner.

Other Thoughts: No problem with registering it as an "owned" unit through DirecTV. Was forwarded to the access card dept, told them it was from newegg, told them what I paid for it, and done. I've been a DirecTV customer for 7 years if that helped.

4 out of 5 eggsLove the HDTIVO

Pros: I now have 3 of these units and they all work great. This one from Newegg was my 3rd one and since it wasn't stated as being a lease on their website I stated that when activating it through DirecTV. No problems with activation and the rep marked it as an OWNED unit. No Problems at all.

Cons: Wish DirecTV would hurry up and roll out 6.2 for the HDTIVO's. 3.X gets slow after a period of time.

5 out of 5 eggsOverview

Pros: * Last DirecTV HD receiver w/ TIVO
* TIVO !
* Comes with all the necessary cables

Cons: * MPEG2
* MUST use an OTA HD antenna to get local HD channels. The receive does not have the hardware to bring the HD 'local' channels over the satellite. This model never will !
* The new HR20-250 HD receiver will be MPEG4 and will get HD 'local' channels via satellite...BUT it will not be TIVO, it will be DirecTV DVR.
* Cannot use multiple outputs to go to multiple TV's....search the web for more info on this.
* USB/Networking not enabled (can w/ a software hack though)
* DirecTV menu system is slower to refresh than past non-HD models.

Other Thoughts: IF you are an EXISTING DirecTV/TIVO customer AND you don't purchase the HR10-250 unit from DirecTV....then you "own" the equipment and don't fall under the new "lease" guidelines. ALSO...don't submit any DirecTV rebates, they sign you up as a "lease"r and with a 2 year contract.

5 out of 5 eggsBeware you are not "buying" it

Pros: Best mpeg2 HD DVR with tivo available

Cons: As of 2/28/05 (if you purchased it after this date) The service provider does not allow you to activate equipment and own it.They consider the $xxx you paid as an upfront lease fee!!!!!!!!!!!!! NONREFUNDABLE. If you sign up you then pay a monthly rental fee and sign a 24 month contract with 300 dollars in program termination fees.
