Pros: plays great, good surround sound (read specs). Up-converts standard DVDs to 1080p, I'm using HDMI to connect. My TV accepts only upto 1080i and it works... so even old DVDs look better (but is still standard def). Has memory card reader (which I haven't tried yet).
Cons: Must upgrade the firmware, but not very difficult. Just download the file from magnavox's web site to your computer and burn to CD or DVD, place in bluray player, close tray and turn off/on player. It detects the firmware upgrade on the disc and installs it. Just as described on web site.
Other Thoughts: Bought a month ago (7/27/2009) and firmware was very old, why can't new from factory (or new from repair shop) have new firmare? Why must a person always need to install new firmware when buying something? Been playing Bluray from netflix and so far has played The Mummy,The Chronicles of Riddick,Total Recall,Live Free or Die Hard,The Incredible Hulk,Iron Man,Spider-Man 2,Spider-Man,Spider-Man 3,I Robot. all played no problems. Tried "Speed" this weekend but didn't play... could be bad disk, which sometimes does happen with rentals even with standard DVDs.

Pros: Cheap Blu-ray player,up-converts DVD's, came with HDMI cable. As always Newegg shipped fast
Cons: Even though this is a refurb unit it did have an unacceptable number of scratches on the face (would have been 5 stars otherwise)
Other Thoughts: Newegg needs to improve their packaging, Item was able to move around in the box (luckily no damage)

Pros: Came with everything except batteries for the remote, looked new from the box, plays all my discs with no problems.
Cons: Not really a con for me, but it is big but surprisingly light for its size.
Other Thoughts: Bought this when it was on Shell Shocker and have no regrets. Works nicely.

Pros: Sound and picture excellent for standard DVD (while it worked). Sound excellent for CD. Easy to set up. Haven't used BD yet, I'm still assembling my HT pieces.
Cons: Required update of firmware. I had trouble from the first time I used it. Before and after update, unit stops playing after 30-45 minutes, returns to main menu. One time it even opened the door on its own. Every DVD I tried encountered the same problem, even a new one. Magnavox/Funai help desk was helpful, but now unit must go in for servicing. Luckily, their 3 local service centers aren't too far away.
Other Thoughts: I wondered whether I should buy a refurb, now my worst fears have come true.
