Pros: great sound quality for 2.1 system sharp easy function reciever/ remote...attractive wood finish and slim line speakers with bottom stands...
Cons: like others who had this issue dvd player did not work on arrival plus didital display is on top dvd unit which makes the dvd component sort of like a lame duck...
Other Thoughts: if dvd player worked would have given this 5 stars...but truely rma this...repackaging alone would not have been worth the effort...all in all the speakers and sub woofer covered the cost...and considering the reciever works ..4 stars..

Pros: Another reviewer mentioned bad reviews of the similar MCD708. I've owned a 708 for two years and I just bought the MCD709 too. They both have similar but not identical player units. The 708 only has two bookshelf speakers, no subwoofer, and 180 *less* RMS Watts output. However, the 709 has the tower speakers and subwoofer. So still only 2.1 channel (no 5.1 surround sound), only preset equalizer modes (jazz, rock, etc) which is annoying if like you more treble but I can hook it up to my PC and use the software equalizer. Aesthetically, the player unit is brushed aluminum, and the rosewood speakers are just gorgeous. I've never had problems with my 708 (knock on wood) and I'm hoping for the same with my new 709. The weight of the player unit is substantial. It does *not* have that light plastically hollow boombox feel of cheap A/V components. It feels packed tight with electronic components. Plays DVDs, DivX, Windows Media, MP3s... and it's EnergyStar compliant too :-)
Cons: Preset equalizer modes only. No 5.1 surround sound.
Other Thoughts: Great if you want a stylish stereo/DVD player with rich rosewood veneer speakers.

DVD did not work..

Pros: The sound was great.. for the first 15 seconds.
Cons: This is model 709: * the DVD/CD player worked for the first 15 seconds and did not work afterwords. * No 5.1 sound.
Other Thoughts: The speakers are much larger than the image portrays. But Newegg was great in resolving this issue. No problems with Newegg just the product. The box was 70lb and when it arrived it was pretty much beat up (UPS delivered).
