No Speed Demon
- Pros: Couldn't beat the price "Free" given to me as a gift
- Cons: Quality control at MSI is lacking. Outer shell of computer was separated at seems near the camera had a heck of a time getting it to snap back together. On first boot-up system took over 3 hours to try and setup, did not finish (I got impatient and shut the darn thing off). MSI sets this thing up to restore from an image on the hard drive and it's painfully slow. So I grabbed my Windows XP CD and did a fresh install from scratch. You need to have every windows update installed on this computer in order to get the touch screen App to work correctly. You will get the error messages out the wazoo if you don't update right away. You can't expand the memory!!
- Other Thoughts: With only 1GB of memory built in and no options to add or expand system memory this system is slow. After about a half an hour of running this computer it just locks up, no apparent reason just surfing the web. Would not recommend buying this model. Maybe the dual core with hyper threading would be better. This is a single core with hyper threading.
I think I will try Ubuntu Remix on this to see if it helps.
??????
- Pros: look like a mac
- Cons: just turn on it and get IO.SYS error (touchscreen)
tech support is very bad told me return the computer and after 5 minutes told me restar computer or use restore dvd IT DIDN'T FIX IT!!! I asked them if msconfig will fix it and they told me NO but I disable all startup from msconcfig and fixit but it really didn't fixit ( just disabled it)
- Other Thoughts: HOW is possible that come with software error from factory???
Makes a great kitchen computer
- Pros: I got this unit to replace a failing imac for my mom's kitchen computer and so far she has loved it. The screen is big and bright(though slightly grainy), the speakers sound decent for being built in. Surfing the net, watching dvd's, listening to cd's was all smooth as butter.
- Cons: The slow hard drive speed means that it takes a little while to get booted into windows, but once loaded is snappy enough for mom to do what she needs to. The touchscreen is a little finicky, it works but can be difficult to select exactly what you you were aiming for. Luckily we both saw that as just a bonus feature and she didn't really need or want it. Once open the laptop style cd/dvd drive they use can feel a little wobbly.
- Other Thoughts: Overall a great little computer as long as you aren't expecting a beast out of the box. Works great as a little kitchen/media computer.
