Amazing for the $$$
- Pros: I researched HDTVs for about four months before making my purchase. I read user reviews, professional reviews, and I read product manuals online at each manufacturer's website. When researching plasmas I narrowed my search between this unit and the equivalent Samsung. How I came to select the Panasonic over the Samsung was:
1. Anti-glare screen. The Samsung has a coating on the back of the unit and Panasonic has the anti-glare built into the front glass. Several reviews on the Samsung said that the whites would show as a very faint purple in many cases. 2. Panasonic boasts that their screen is Wii-proof. I'll take their word for it. Not a function I'm going to try out on purpose. 3. Ant-image retention software: there is a white scrolling bar that you can activate that is intended to reverse any burn-in. I run it once a day. It runs for 15 minutes. 4. The contrast ratio is excellent. Blacks are pure black. 5. Set-up is a breeze.
- Cons: The only negative thing I can say is to repeat the only negative thing I read on any review I saw online regarding this unit is that the customization/ calibration is somewhat limited. As a result there is, on occasion, some washout on some white images. However, I'll say that on a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being the worst washout) it's a 3.25.
- Other Thoughts: The calibrations I found online (after much research) are:
Picture Mode: Custom Color Temp: Warm Contrast: 76 Brightness: 64 Sharpness: 15 Color: 45 Tint: -8 Other Settings: Color Mgmt On Video NR Off MPEG NR Off Black Level Light HD Size 1 x.v. Color Off CATS Off
I have these settings and the picture is amazing.
Another perk on this unit is when you switch to your Wii, PS3, Xbox (we have a Wii) and the video is labeled "Game" the screen settings switch to the "Game" setting which provides the maximum picture settings for video games. A feature I really like.
I think that Panasonic should include an ethernet port (I'd prefer Wi-Fi) so that they could do firmware and software upgrades to the unit. So, if they were to ever change the software for the screen settings to be more definitive then you could download and apply that firmware.
Better Buy than TH50PZ85U
- Pros: I bought this TV instead of the 85U for 2 reasons. First, the placement of the 3rd HDMI and SD Card reader is in the front, vs the side for the 85U. Second, I didn't like the look of the down firing speaker of the 85U. The difference of 10,000:1 contrast ratio between the two is barely noticeable.
- Cons: none yet. Built-in speakers suck...but who cares...you by a TV like this, you better have the DTS audio system to back it up!
- Other Thoughts: I think the 80U is better than the 85U. The main difference is the 80U is 20,000:1 vs the 85U having a 30,000:1 contrast ratio. The speakers are also different.

LOVE THIS TV
- Pros: This TV is very easy to setup and I have not had a single issue with it. Everything looks great with my Comcast Cable and Xbox 360. The menu is easy to understand and navigate.
- Cons: The speakers aren't Great but they will defently get the job done with the Surround Sound settings.
- Other Thoughts: Great tv very happy I bought it.
sweet tv
- Pros: great value, great tv, great picture, great features
- Cons: one of the rca inputs is on the front, so it kinda stinks not being able to keep multiple rca devices connected. sd card slot is slow flipping picture to picture...but you dont buy a 50 inch hdtv for the rca inputs or sd card slot.
A serious TV
- Pros: Looks nice. Functions perfectly. PC can be hooked up VIA HDMI or component video if your video card allows so. Picture looks fantastic! 1080P is Nice.
- Cons: None ... though, AIT's shipping is a bit bothersome. They didn't deliver to my area so I had to go to their carrier facility to pick up. Not too bad though.
- Other Thoughts: Friggen sweet.
