Cheap, big and Good Enough
- Pros: This Monitor is a Cheap decent monitor for low price + free delivery... Works Well with Cable, Dish, etc.. Built in speakers + subwoofer are ok for the average tv set. Picture in Picture is sometimes nice to play with but not really that usefull since there is no tuner. No Tuner ( aka saves on cost).
The entire TV box and all was shipping inside another box with padding. Better than expected.
- Cons: Problems with HDCP connection to ps3 via HDMI causes the HDCP handshake to fail and loose the picture .. (supposed solution is to connect a hdmi to dvi cord to DVI2 on the monitor. )
Its Just a monitor, If you are picking up your Television signal over the air this monitor has no built in tuner you will need a Separate Tuner of some kind.. ( Cable box, Dish box , Digital TV Tuner.) Only 1 HDMI connection.
- Other Thoughts: For the Price this is a simple no frills monitor to display a big 47" image at 1080p. The lack of a Tuner is really not a bi deal since most of the people that would be buying this are using a separate tuner anyway. The Screen is REALLY bright. I suggesting on renting or purchaing some screen calibration DVD or similar to set the video setting up correctly.
Dissapointed
- Pros: At first the TV was great, it has a great picture and for the price I couldn't find anything better. The sound is a little lacking, but so is the sound on almost all LCD TV's. I really like this TV. Some of the other reviews said the font smoothing on the TV was bad, well it looked great on all my computers ( though I turn on font smoothing within the computer so all my fonts always look good ). Also the built in menu is quite nice, and pretty easy to use.
- Cons: After about a week of owning it, it developed a weird humming sound. Now I can barely hear any audio from any source on the TV. The sound is so bad the TV is unusable. I am sure glad I got a 4 year warranty on the TV. Also when using the TV as a computer monitor there is a bit of over scan at the top, it couldn't be more then 5-10 lines though. It had 2 DVI inputs but there DVI-D only, which means no VGA-DVI adapters will work. Also there is only one HDMI port, but that's not really a problem because I don't need more then one. Also I have noticed if you use the TV for a long pierod of time it gets quite hot, but that is pretty normal for all LCD TV's because of there backlights. One thing that can get really annoying on the TV is the Autosource feature, I would be watching TV with my Xbox plugged in and turn on my xbox to download something, and switch back to the TV input and the auto source would just switch back to the Xbox. It's a good idea to turn off the Autosource.
- Other Thoughts: As you can see for me the Pros don't really out-weigh the cons, but it's still a great TV. I would but it again in a heartbeat. But the sound problem is so bad I can't give it more then a 1 Egg rating.
Nightmare customer service -- If you have defective unit - Beware
- Pros: Price
- Cons: Westinghouse customer service is the worst service I ever had in my online purchase. My unit was defective and I had to send it back to Westinghouse on first day then I received the unit back after few months later. Once I received it there was a panel problem due to fedex ground. So i send it back to the manufacturer once again and received it 3 months before 1 yr. warranty was over.
- Other Thoughts: Westinghouse customer service is done by other 3rd party service contractor. Do not bet your purchase on this brand. Westinghouse is only a brand without brand -- premium service -- Nightmare customer service...
