Compatibility Issue Solved By TT

white Reviewed By: Ken C. on 2/20/2009
Rating + 5
Tech Level Tech Level: high - Ownership: 1 month to 1 year
This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Great case, but make sure you use a REAL mATX board.

Excellent CS, as evidenced by a personal phone call I just received from Jeremy at TT Customer Service/Tech. Support. My faith and confidence in TT has been renewed. They are back on my preferred supplier list. This will teach me to think twice before I bad mouth a supplier again.

Explain below.
Cons: None, other than my being a bonehead.
Other Thoughts: Apparently, not all mobos that say mATX are truly mATX. If you have a board like my old Gigabyte G33M-S2L, be advised that it is NOT a true mATX board...the dimensions are different and the CPU is actually offset enough to cause the clearance issue with the Blue OrbII in regards to the 60mm fans. Repeat, this is NOT an issue if you use a standard uATX board. I stand corrected and quite embarrassed that I posted misinformation. I hope this information helps people with similar problems.

Good, but not for gaming because of heat issues

Tech Level Tech Level: somewhat high - Ownership: more than 1 year
This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Nice style, compact, easy to carry and slide the motherboard in via the mobo tray component of the case.
Cons: Poor ventilation, hard to install extra hard drives and work inside the case once the motherboard module is slotted.
Other Thoughts: I can't recommend this because the cooling is so atrocious for a modern video card and CPU that i've had to take the top off the lid, suspend the power supply cage above the unit, and the fan still runs so close to capacity that it's too noisy and i'm on here replacing this right now. If you're looking for a compact case for a machien that will word process or something similar, this is fine. For something like gaming or processor-intensive tasks, i'd look elsewhere.

nice box but...

white Reviewed By: mgar295 on 2/7/2010

Tech Level Tech Level: high - Ownership: 1 day to 1 week
This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: nice finish, good fit, heavy steel construction, looks nice on my dresser. good box for HTPC
Cons: complicated layout. too many fasteners, if you want to remove something, 3 other things are in the way and have to be removed first. front panel ports (USB, audio) should be on the front panel, not on the side where they can be in the way.
Other Thoughts: I've been putting custom systems together for friends and family since 1998 so this is not my first system. or even 50th.
this system was for my own bedroom, a cheapie HTPC with a microATX 780G motherboard (gotta love that onboard HDMI out) and a 2.8 ghz athlon dual core. using a single HD, single optical drive and a card reader in the 3.5 inch slot, this thing was a nightmare and took several hours to do decent (not great, I just ran out of patience) cable management. EVERYTHING is mounted in something else and stacked with all the motherboard connectors out of reach. yeah, the motherboard is on a tray that slides out, and the optical drives are on a tray that unscrews from the frame, and the HD is in a frame that screws to the bottom, and the P/S is in a tray that screws in on top of everything but that does not make it great. in fact, this was the most complicated case I have ever bought. and a real pain to put together.
that said, temps are good and its quiet and nice looking

Excellent case

This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: (1)Beautiful finish BUT careful... not hard anodized so paint finish can easily scratch.

(2) Unusual and very clever mechaninal arrangement becomes apparent as you get used to it... sides don't come off BUT everything inside is removable to easily access everything... lots of thought went into the design of this case.

Neat arrangement for two drives oriented front to back [DVD etc] in front bays... they sit hidden behind fancy plastic doors that flip open when the drive trays come out.

Two hard drives are mounted left to right in a two drive removable bay burried on the bottom of the case and get plenty cooling.
Cons: Hard drives in 2 drive "cage" cannot be vibration isolated unless cage is modified... BUT modern drives like Seagate 10,000+ series are very quiet anyway.

One of the motherboard connectors used a three space housing for a two pin header on motherboard... minor issue... had to re-arrange the 2 sockets in the 3 pin housing for it to fit on the motherboard pins.

There is plenty cooling with multiple fans BUT CPU and Chipset ICs that run hot will require heatsink fans for cooling... none of the case fans blow directly on those heatsinks... no big deal, just add tiny fans over heatsinks where needed. NOT major con.. mostly normal situation... also there is plenty room above those hot chips so a HUGE TALL passive heatsink might eliminate need for any fans [as would a very modern board with Atom CPU and related chipset both of which run cool].
Other Thoughts: Packaging was good and prevented any damage. A little heavy and no handle to carry but for my use [a NAS] where it stays in one place it is excellent.

Pros: Install went fairly smooth.
Case is quiet.
Uses standard ATX power supplies.
Case feels sturdy.
Cons: lower drive cage was too close to my mobo's forward facing sata ports to be used without blocking some of them; but it didn't matter in my configuration.

Not a big fan of side usb ports.
Other Thoughts: This is the 5th cube-style micro atx case I've owned, and definitely the best.
