1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Fan Controller

Cons: This thing is loud! I have a Thermaltake Mozart TX which comes stock with fans that look just like this one and since there both TT products I thought it was the same as the stock fans. Was I wrong.

The temp sensor didnt work. Just kept the fan on high at all times weather the system was idle or high load. So I used the controller included. On lowest speed it was fine but moved less air then the stock fans. On medium, it was very very loud, and on high it sounded like a hurricane!

Even on high it only offered a 1 to 2 * drop on my cpu temps.

Other Thoughts: Hopping to have better luck with a Scythe S-FLEX SFF21E as the specs seem alot better.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,
If you need the fixed speed case fan. Thermaltake AF0018 case fan got lower dBA and higher CFM than SFF21E.
Thank you,

1 out of 5 eggsNot happy with it

Pros: Ball bearing for long life.
Its orange?

Cons: Being an "AI" fan, the directions for install aren't very helpful. Apparently, you can't just hook it to the motherboard and have the Mobo control the fan speed. Its much louder compared to the old fan this one replaced. Don't like how the knob has to be in back for speed control.

According to the instructions, there's only three options for hookup. Full speed with a jumper, using a temp sensor, or manual using the knob you would install in the back of the case. Nothing mentioned about hooking directly to mobo for automatic control.

Other Thoughts: I'm not happy with this fan. I do many different things with this computer. If I'm watching a movie, I don't want the constant drone of this loud fan drowning out the movie. But then when I want to play a game I would have to turn the fan speed up, and with my computer set up, its very difficult to access the back where the controller knob would be.

I would not recommend this fan for someone who has a multipurpose computer. I'm personally going to look for something else.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear dieselmech86,
We appreciate your feedback. Please understand that the fan is designed to allow for users to achieve maximum control over the fan's performance. Due to the fact that fan's max rotational speed is much higher than traditional fans, the power from motherboard's fan connector does not usually provide enough power input for this fan to operate at its specified range.
Again, we do appreciate your feedback and please contact Thermaltake Customer Service should you have any other questions or concerns.

3 out of 5 eggsUpgrade to HydroDynamic Bearing

Pros: This fan can push a lot of air, even if it will sound like a jet engine. It will keep your case cool, possibly even making up for a bad case airflow design.

Cons: Dust. Dust. Dust. This model only lasted about 1 year (mid-high RPM, clean case, dust filter). No lifetime hours rating.

Other Thoughts: I have exclusively used thermaltake fans and heatsinks. Great designs. Needs a UL rating. Needs a lifetime hour rating posted. Recommend upgrading to the Thermaltake HydroDynamic Bearing model instead.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat for those willing to read specs and Tolerate the High noise

Pros: Moves a LOT of Air.
Comes with the things you need to hook it up.
You can see Dust Build up on the Orange fan so you know when to clean it.

If you want a pretty high CFM with some control and don't mind the noise and setup then get this fan.

Cons: High DBA rating.

Not for those who don't like Jets doing supersonic passes by your house.

The Fan is Orange which matches my other thermaltake fans but i would like to see these as a simple black version; I don't want led lights and crazy colors just something that's quality and performs exactly to spec.

I didn't buy it at newegg so I didn't get the screws, sensor, 3 to 4 pin power adapter, and paid $5 bucks more. stupid brick and mortar store.

Other Thoughts: I have 4 other Thermaltake Fans exactly like this but in 80mm sizes and 2 Vantec Tornado at 80mm X 38mm. All with a Fan Controller and using the Thermaltake sensors.

I have to honestly say at full speed this fan is less loud then my Vantec at Full speed. If i set my Vantec Tornado to half or a just a little over that's about how loud this fan get's.

If this doesn't cool my new heatsink I'll still use it but I might get a higher CFM Fan.

Note: I bought this at a retail store same model and the specs are higher than what it says on newegg and my fan has 9 fan blades compared to 7 fan blades for the one on newegg. so maybe there is a REV change or something.

I know there is 1 120mm fan on newegg that has a 252CFM rating but it cost 4 times more then this. I think the thermaltake has a pretty decent price to performance
ratio.

I've seen the bad reviews but I've never really had a problem with any thermaltake fans I've owned.

4 out of 5 eggsThermaltake A2029 120mm Case Fan - Retail31874146

Pros: Very good for moving air and have done an excellent job keeping my system cool.

Cons: The two reason I gave this a 4 and not a five.

Noise and the fact that they are very dangerous! If a kids should happen to get their finger in there, it could seriously take it off or cause a sever laceration! The blades rotate so fast that a power wire for one of them got sucked into the blades and the blade sheared of and came flying at the side door. So again this product is very good for what you are looking for, but you have to use caution with them!

4 out of 5 eggsdecent fan for the money

Pros: decent fan for the money.

comes with a fan controller which is a nice plus

you can turn the dial on low when your running idle or you can turn it up for when you're gaming.

dead silent when run on low

BOY WILL THIS FAN PUMP AIR

Cons: the thermal sensor is a great concept when written on paper, but the temperature in your case can be pretty inconsistent. when ever i tried the thermal sensor while gaming, my rig would run pretty hot.

this thing gets LOUD, HOWEVER you will always run into that situation with high RPM fans

Other Thoughts: this fan is a nice upgrade for those on a budget and want for bang for their buck.

when i built my first rig a few years back i used a very similar fan from SILVERSTONE. it came with a busted fan controller so it would always run on full blast. thanks to that fan i most likely lost a small portion of my hearing.

STICK WITH THERMAL TAKE decent quality for a decent price.

2 out of 5 eggsneeds manual control

Pros: Moves massive amounts of air.

Cons: Loud, thermal sensor doesn't work, full speed or 700 rpm, 700 rpm is not enough air. if i keep the side off my case i get more air movement than when its closed.

Other Thoughts: Get a case fan with a manual speed dial. 1500 rpm would be the sweet spot for this fan. Not super loud and a lot of air movement.
