The ABIT AW9D is an easy to tweak, simple, efficient, and future-proof (Quad-core ready) motherboard. Ready for Intel's i975x chipset, it makes full use of the latest developments offered by the CPU. With an integrated µGuru chip, and ABIT EQ, OC Guru, FlashMenu and BlackBox applications managed through a user-friendly interface, you get unprecedented performance and stability. ABIT's new Guru Clock provides overclocking and hardware monitoring status without entering Windows-based utilities. Two PCI-E X16 slots let you pair two ATI graphic cards in CrossFire mode for Dual-GPU power-gaming. It supports a massive 8 Gigabytes of screaming dual-channel DDR2 800 memory.

A PCI-E Gigabit LAN controller supports 10/100/1000M Ethernet and eliminates the need for an add-on LAN card. The included AudioMAX card provides high-definition, low-interference 7.1-channel Dolby Master audio. OTES (Outside Thermal Exhaust System) Cooling Technology, wider heatsinks, and PWM layout and placement help in preventing the overheating by providing efficient heat dissipation.

This is a great full-featured board ideal for the first-time builder or experienced system developer. With enough room for supporting graphics and sound cards, and more than enough connectors for your box, you have a world of gaming opportunity before you!

4 out of 5 eggsHad an OOps NewEgg and Rescued me

Pros: Board ran great from the start and Over Clocked fantastically.

One day it shut down and would not complete the Boot. Boot Error was a C6 on the displays sent an IM to my Abit tech he recommended an RMA to NewEgg as it was just under a year and still covered by the Egg's return/replace warranty. With their typical great service and efficiency the whole thing was painless and with two way shipping and inspection I had a new MB in under 10 business days.

Cons: Cons it died but some things just happen.

The four star rating is just because I had to RMA it but that is not a major problem.

Other Thoughts: Ran great for almost a year. I have 5 other Abit boards and they are running flawlessly from 2 years to 6 month and a new AW9D.

Just ordered an Abit IP35 to go with a second Quad.

I will stick with Abit and NewEgg both are Winners in my book.

1 out of 5 eggsDONT DO IT!

Pros: Looks very cool.

Cons: board threw a hissy fit when I tried to put 2 one gig sticks in. The board wouldn't boot for the first time unless I only had one stick of ram in. i've had this board for 7 months now and it just stopped working. all my other components are fine.

Other Thoughts: If abit is going to make anything it would be nice not be be blown off by their technical support. It would be nice of them to atleast email me an RMA so i can send it back. my year warrenty is going to expire by the time i get to send it back

2 out of 5 eggsRMA'ed my second board today

Pros: The board, other than some of the layout (IDE connector), is great. Easy to set up and it runs very well.

Cons: The is the second board I've tried and both times the USB dies. The first board died right after I put the PC together and the second almost 3 months after.

Other Thoughts: The first RMS went very smoothly, I guess because I was still in the 30 day return period. They let me order another board and pay for it and then credited the return to my account. This time I will be without a system for a week while the old board goes to Newegg and the new one comes back.

5 out of 5 eggsGETTING MY THIRD

Pros: This is the best i975x chipset motherboard. The INTEL Bad Axe is a close second. This is also the best motherboard currently made.

Cons: One PCI slot and the floppy connector location. Big deal. You only need a PCI slot for a sound card anyway, and you can buy a longer floppy cable.

Other Thoughts: There is not one single P965 chipset motherboard out there that still doesn't have some issues. Other than the fact that you can achieve Saturn V overclocking speeds with a P965, there are none worth spending the money on. The 680i chipset boards are even worse. If you want to build the best possible C2D system, this is the way to go.

5 out of 5 eggsAbit delivers yet again

Pros: First thing I did was to install Linux. It booted up like a charm.
Strudy contruction. It doesnt feel as if it wll fall apart in your hands. Nice Bios features. Stable stable stable.

Cons: Layout is a bit funky. Just be carefull when you put the IDE1 cable. Manual could be a little bit more detailed.

Other Thoughts: Money well spent. I am 100% happy with it. I dont see any reason to buy another brand of motherboard.
If you can afford go for the MAX version. That will be my next board.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Bought this because it is said to work with the rather large Scythe Ninja heatsinks, and it does, no interference. Good interface for utilities, diagnostics, and monitoring. Install was fine, everything works. Decent sound.

Cons: Doesn't have a serial port. That annoys me.

4 out of 5 eggsGood For Moderate Overclocking

Pros: Excellent uGuru utility for overclocking and monitoring voltages, clock speeds, and fan speeds. No chipset fans. 2 digit LCD error code display. On-board power and reset buttons. Nice appearance.

Cons: No serial or parallel port. uGuru occasionally looses it's settings after the computer remains off for awhile. No eSATA or Firewire port.

Other Thoughts: Most people won't mind the lack of serial and parallel port, but I think they should still be included. Only a year ago did I finally move to a printer that had USB capability, and I still need a serial port for some hobby electronics I work with.
