5 out of 5 eggsOld Faithful

Pros: Good support drivers, lots of customization, integrated RAID support, Integrated SPDIF.

Works very well, never had any problems with it.

Cons: None really, other than low max RAM (8GB) but it was good for the time it was built in.

Other Thoughts: Wow this board has been good to me for the past 5 years! I have never really had any problems with my PC, I've seen a blue screen maybe twice and that was when I had vista. It's been a long time coming for me to update my PC but I will miss this board.

You gotta hand it to ASUS they know what they are doing.

Used with:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ 2.3GHz AM2 originally (AMD 6400+ 3.0GHz currently)
APEVIA ATX-AS520W
Corsair XMS 2GB originally (XMS 3 8GB currently)
EVGA GeForce 8800 GT originally (ASUS GTX 670 currently)

I am going to be using it as a Lab server at work now, I hope it will continue to serve me well.

4 out of 5 eggs-Great older board

Pros: This units has spent its final years as a file server and XBMC interface and has not had a problem in the 5 years that I have owned it.
-8GB of ddr 2 ram, I was able to run 4Gb by 2x2GB sticks
-2x1Gbps NIC, easily bonded in ubuntu
-8 sata ports (7 internal 1 external)
-7.1 sound plugged right into my entertainment center
-IDE channel for an older dvd-rw drive
-Fan headers, like 6 of them, great, i used every one.

Cons: -Ram could have been place half a centimeter away from the cpu, my large heatsink caused a problem
-the 7th internal sata port was right next to the PCIe x16 slot which made it impossible to connect a cable when a card was installed.
-the eSata port did not work a port multiplier, not real big but all 3 of these thing caused me to dock an egg.

Other Thoughts: -unit only spent 2 years as an active gaming system, and the last 3 years as a XBMC and file server inside a U4 case, serving over 15 Tb of data, I never had a crash, longest time online was 197 days without a reboot (due to an ram upgrade). If you want an older board that has a ton of great features this is the way to go.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Board

Pros: I have owned this Mobo for over 5 years, and let me tell you it has stood up to the test of time. im just leaving my final take on the board because its time to upgrade and i would like to leave my thoughts. One processor burnt out it was a 6000+ just bought a replacement ran two cards on the board, a xfx7600gt and currently a 9800 evga. 4gb of crucial blastix mem 800, runs win7 well but i need more speed so im upgrading to the AM99x pro. OC the bejezuz out of everything stood up to the test of time and still looks sharp.

Cons: Little Windows 7 Support, there are plenty of work arounds to get it to work with a 64bit OS of windows7 so in all reality i would say the on board wifi is ok i would buy something faster. and really the placement of the memory could of been better.

Other Thoughts: If your building a rig on the cheep pick this up, you wont be sorry.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat but with defects

Pros: The motherboard is very durable and installation was easy. Came back to new-egg to order a new one, but they no longer sell this model.

Cons: There were several issues with this motherboard for attempting to dual SLI NVidia cards (the cards were not the issue as other motherboards were able to perform under the same gaming conditions without driver crashes. Its been 5 years now with 3 years of issues of this card that arise from the poor connection from the power supply to the motherboard (took me a few hours to locate the no-boot issue) and wiggling the connection in a different direction fixed it.

5 out of 5 eggsm2n-sli deluxe

Pros: I have been running this motherboard since 2007 with a dual core 6000+ processor and 3 gigs of corsair 667 ram running at 4 4 4 12 t2, evga 8800gts 640 ftw and has been running rock solid with no problems for 4+ years.
Recently put in a phenom 2 x4 940 processor with all the same configurations and my framerate in games went up 20 fps and so much smoother gameplay, and directx 10 actually works now in games without lagging.

Cons: I just recently purchased a phenom 2 x4 940 processor with the 5001 bios. It booted into windows and ran applications ok but whenever stressed test with orthos it would fail within 5 minutes. I tried bumping up the northbride voltage the ht voltage the memory and the core but still not exactly stable. So I looked at the motherboard. I found some bad capacitors next to the memory and the main cpu regulators. The board is 4+ years old the capacitors are getting weak and going bad. I really like the board So I replaced all the caps on the motherboard. It has a total of 59 capacitors. I replaced all the caps with solid polymer caps except about 6 ity bity ones with low esr high reliability tantalum caps.
I booted up the system and no more blue screens and I can run orthos all day long and no errors. my cpu voltage is 1.4v. memory 1.85 4 4 4 12 2t timing. bumped up the northbride core and link voltage. This is my experiences with this board.

2 out of 5 eggsM2N-SLI mother board

Pros: I can think of nothing good to say about this product.

Cons: Unfortunately I got a lemon when I purchased my M2N-SLI board, it has been nothing but trouble. I sent it back to ASUS 3 times for repairs but it was never reliable and finally I junked it. It had an intermittent problem that was never resolved, it refused to boot sometimes and it would not consistently connect with my wireless router. I spent hundreds of hours in an effort to isolate the and was finally forced to take it to a shop. The technician there was also unable to isolate the problem.

Other Thoughts: countless hours/days of frustration trying to find the problem.

5 out of 5 eggsexcellent all around

Pros: Ive owned and been using this mobo almost since its original release (2006t) and its been running strong up until about 4 mos ago, when the RAID drivers failed. thankfully, somehow, I was able to save the files on the raided drives on one of them, when I broke the array.
then it ran great up until 2 wks ago when it finally crashed (unable to read from my primary SATA drive)
now has a problem even booting into BIOS (takes 3--4 attempts) but doesnt save any changes made in BIOS, might simply be a dead CMOS batt, but no big deal, its time for an upgrade anyways :)

Cons: I simply cannot say anything bad about a board that runs rock solid for 6 yrs.

Other Thoughts: this was running an AMD x2 6000 @ 3.6g 24/7 stable for 5 of the yrs its been used, although I am also running a full water cooling setup (CPU, GPU, S/N-B(?). and it ran faster than a LOT of "supposedly" faster setups Ive come across. hell, it ran circles around both an e6850 c2d AND an E8400 C2E, granted, this was back in the 680i chipset era, but running the exact same components, setup the exact same way.
very happy, and all I can say about anyone who had any issues with this mobo, is 1 of 2 things.
1. every manufacturer has a bad batch now and then, dont judge the company by a single bad apple.
2. if it isnt the mobo itself, then its the user....

5 out of 5 eggsTypical bad capacitors...

Pros: This is just a foot note to the guys who say the board doesn't last long in some cases. My son had this in his system running 7X24 since early 2008. Ran perfectly till it died a few days ago. I repair systems for a living so I took a look at the motherboard expecting to find some bad capacitors around the processor chip. Sure enough, 8 were leaking and had popped their tops. I have seen many motherboards with this problem and if you are handy with a soldering iron it is a relatively easy job to replace the offenders. I just finished repairing the board and am hoping to get 2 or so more years out of it. This really is a great board so you might consider a repair rather than pitching it.

Cons: None, really.

Other Thoughts: Just wish more manufacturers would use solid state caps...
