Great Board
- Pros: The heat pipe makes it so that this board produces no sound whatsoever. Also, there is no fan that could possibly break, or come unplugged causing something to overheat. It was real easy to mount. ASUS makes connecting all your USB, case, and other junk real easy. Reset switch, HDD Light, power switch; all that is clearly labeled for you. The power plug is not in a difficult spot, there is plenty of room for a huge aftermarket CPU Heatsink. The BIOS chip appears to be removable for those who like to play with that kind of stuff.
It has a SATA port on the back panel!
- Cons: Only one IDE Channel.
- Other Thoughts: Make sure that you are not wanting to use more than 2 IDE devices, or else you will be needing to get an expansion card or something.
The only choice for a high-end AM2 box.
- Pros: On features alone, this puppy shines, but you don't know the half of it until you get it home & press it into service. This was the *only* offering I could find that supplied all my requirements - RAID 5, 2 PCIe 16x slots (ok, the 2nd really runs at 8x, but that's the case everywhere), more than 2 old-school PCI slots, SATA ports @ 3.0Gb/s (and more than 4 of them), and an AM2 processor slot for my Athlon X2. Given the lack of comparable competition, I'm really juiced that this unit is also the only 100% stable of the several AM2 mobos I've tested.
If you're thinking about doing the HTPC thing on the Athlon 64 platform, this is honestly the only choice. Dual core MCE machines need a *lot* of patches, and you should flash this bios to 0304 right out of the box. Prepare for that in advance, but once that's all done, this is the only board where I've not seen a single bluescreen once my winstall was fully patched -- even OC'ing @ 10%. Bravo ASUS!
- Cons: Makes me expect that much more from the next motherboard I purchase. Woe to that motherboard!
- Other Thoughts: None of this is ASUS's fault, but... you really ought to patch the BIOS right out of the box. Also, if you want to run Windows XP MCE in a dual-core setup on this, it will need patching galore, but will run beautifully afterwards: You'll need to apply AMD's dual-core driver, then MS's Dual Core Hotfix, then AMD's dual-core Optimizer, then a registry edit, then a BOOT.INI edit, then .NET framework 1.1 SP1, and then it'll to be cumulatively rolled up with Rollup 2 then June 2006.

- Pros: Works perfect with everything I have thrown at it. This mobo is everything I could have asked for and more. I will not purchase anything other than ASUS, for myself or the customers who I build computers for. This is the third of these boards I have used and it is as expected - flawless.
- Cons: The only flaw that I can think of would be the sound issue. Although the sound is not bad, it does cause some feedback or "spaceshipping" on VOIP's. If you are going to use this mobo with any intent of having excellent sound quality, you should know ahead of time that built on usually doesn't cut it.
- Other Thoughts: I read nearly all of the reviews before buying this product the first time, and every time there was a low rating, it was either user error, or b/c of DOA product. DOA happens, whether from forgetting to be grounded when opening the bag, or slamming in your CPU too hard occasionally yes, a mobo does arrive DOA on its own but that is true of every product in our world. Acknowledging that there is no such thing as perfection, this mobo is as close as it gets.
Great board
- Pros: Asus reliability. I may just be lucky but I've never had an ASUS board die on me or arrive dead, ever, and I've been using ASUS boards since the mid 1990s.
This board works well and has a good BIOS.
- Cons: Onboard sound isn't so great.
- Other Thoughts: After flashing my BIOS, it wouldn't post until I reset the CMOS by pulling the battery and bridging the reset jumper. Had this happen before on other boards, no big deal, just FYI in case you have to do the same. Just think of it as part of the procedure to flash the BIOS.
Superb Board
- Pros: Lots of features & connections. Rock steady. Extremely quiet. Pricing is dropping due to model upgrade. This substantiates ASUS reputation of building solid, quality MBs.
I own two. Now in use for > 1 year. Strongly recommended.
- Cons: None.
