Simply amazing performance
- Pros: This board is amazing. I'm currently using it (watercooled everything, VR, CPU, NB) and running an E63100 1.86GHz chip at 3.01 GHz, 7x multiplier - which means a FSB of 1720MHz. I'm also running my memory at 4-4-4-12, which is 1:1 with the base bus speed. Raid 5 provided via PCI-X slot with a 3ware 9550SX-4LP. CrossfireX works as well on this board, and it's as stable as foundation of my house.
They say you get what you pay for, and, well, they're right. it's worth every penny. I've had it for over a year, and I have been running it at near 100% CPU load the entire time with F@H. I doubt a cheap board would stand up to this level of exceeding listed specs for this length of time.
- Cons: the only con I can think of is that the on board Raid 5 controller isn't anything to shout about. hence the choice to go with a full hardware cached raid 5 solution.
- Other Thoughts: Included heatsinks on board for the northbridge and voltage regulators are not sufficient without a CPU fan. Not that I had expected them to be.
Also, getting everything to work perfectly with my far from stock setup took considerable work. but it is now working flawlessly, so I didn't place this in the con section, as it really doesn't fit there. it did work out of box with stock settings flawlessly as well.
Great Board
- Pros: Great layout. High quality build. 2 each PCI-E,PCI-X and PCI slots. Have been using this board for over a year and a half. Not one problem.
- Cons: Marvel onboard RAID controller is a joke.
- Other Thoughts: Built a dedicated Digital Audio Workstation with this board in early 2007. Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6700 overclocked to 3.3GHz, 1200MHz fsb. PNY VCQ285NVS-PCIEX16-PB Quadro4 NVS285 video card in PCI-E slot one. Areca ARC-1220 PCI-Express x8 SATA II Controller Card in PCI-E slot two. 2 Lynx AES-16 audio cards in PCI slots 1&2. 4 gig Corsair ram. Windows XP-Pro. Turned off EVERY non essential function in BIOS. 100% reliable system.
