This quiet fanless-design board is not for the novice kit-basher, but you don't need to be an uber-geek, either. It makes an excellent transition board, being compatible with both ends of the tech spectrum. It provides two PCI x 16 slots, one PCI x 1 slot and two regular PCI slots, supports up to 8 gigabytes of 240 pin DDR2 memory, a gigabit LAN interface, two IEE 1394 ports and up to 8 USB 2.0 ports.
It can control four internal SATA 3 Gb/s drives (which can optionally be set up in several RAID configurations) and one external drive, in addition to up to 4 regular ATA devices. It is Intel QuadCore compatible and is highly adjustable for the over-clocking crowd with controls for adjusting clock frequency, separate controls for Core, Chip and DIMM voltages, adjustable front-side buss frequency, and adjustable PCI Express frequency. What you can't adjust, you probably shouldn't touch anyway!
Especially for over-clockers and moderately experienced kit-bashers, this is a motherboard worth looking into.

Very Stable...Virtually Indestructible
- Pros: Easy setup and efficient layout. Good documentation for a noob builder. Lots of OC options if you want to go that route. Two IDE ports. About $100 cheaper than the 680i chipset.
- Cons: Only 1 functional PCI slot if you want to run two graphics cards. The remaining PCI slot at the bottom of the board is pretty cramped because the USB, 1394, and FDD sockets are down there as well. This is a nit since I was able to get my sound card in there and the cables routed without any big issues...it just took a little more time.
- Other Thoughts: Like the title says, this board seems pretty indestructible. Through a series of idiot mistakes, I thought I fragged the Mobo during install. Once I installed the thing properly, it fired right up without issue and has been very stable. I did everything but beat this thing with a rock and it survived the holocaust of my first build. Great board at a great price.
Overall Good board
- Pros: Cheap board for what it offers. SLI support is nice for the future.
- Cons: It was nice to have 2 IDE connectors, but they put them in the worst possible location. I have to buy a 36" IDE cable in order for it to reach my optical drives.
Also the board does not support EPP (although this technology isn't the most useful). Regardless, it would have been nice to support it.
- Other Thoughts: What some people don't know when talking about SLI is that 16x16 PCI-E support only offers marginal performance improvements over 8x8. This is a huge plus for this board.
Lastly, the features that the 680i possesses that this board does not are mostly overrated and used to justify the steep price. These features only give marginal performance increases to those select few that would even use them.

It's a Motherboard. That's about it.
- Pros: It's got nice HD Audio. Comes with a neat little adapter to easily connect front panel audio pins.
- Cons: The screw holes for attaching the mobo to the case are not standard. It was a bish putting the board on. The HD Audio drivers+software FAIL HARD for microphones. Get a USB mic.
Don't even THINK about overclocking a q6600, let alone anything, on this board. It will not get a stable overclock on a q6600 over 2.6GHz. The highest this junk goes is MAYBE 2.7GHz.
- Other Thoughts: What a useless piece of garbage.
No Dice!
- Pros: It didnt catch fire?
- Cons: I booted it up and no video. Everything seems to be running fine except the no video. Checked with another known working video card and still nothing. Trolled ASUS website and forums for some help and the best they can tell me is that this board is bad.
- Other Thoughts: Im going to give this another shot and RMA this board. Maybe my next review will be more upbeat.
Not a bad board
- Pros: Nice SLI feature, and the 1333FSB is really nice as well
- Cons: Holes for Intel heatsinks are a slight bit larger than the legs on the heatsinks itself, but a little elbow grease gets it to work properly.
