Nice for the price. Works on Windows 2000 sp4
- Pros: Performance/Price > most
Although ATI doesn't say so, the drivers do work on Windows 2000 SP4.
- Cons: Has a fan control problem on some OS's, but looks like there's a straightforward work-around.
- Other Thoughts: Fan never kicked in even when temp reached 91C--didn't want to test it any higher than that so I got "ATI Tray Tools" (ATT) and use it to control the fan. (Couldn't get RaviTuner or ATItools to work on my W2K sys, but ATI Tray Tools is fine). ATT with the radeon drivers do have a bug where the fan ctrl values invert themselves each time you apply them. Just ignore that when you apply while creating a profile and it will work. Test it though! Its important that fan kick in when you power up, even in 2D mode! My clocks worked best at 590MHz CPU, 800MHz RAM. Could have been better, but that's good enough for my work. If you have other problems, try both the drivers on the CD and also the latest drivers from ATI--maybe one will work better. I had to use the CD drivers.
Excellent
- Pros: Fantastic video card. Upgraded from an X800GTO and doubled 3D mark score.
- Cons: None
- Other Thoughts: $99 well spent.
Impressive Card
- Pros: Copper heat sink, quiet fan, 30% improvement in 3DMark score over X1950PRO, and nice to look at. I'm using the card with 2, 24" lcd monitors and it drives them nicely.
- Cons: Like the X1950PRO its a big card (long) and takes up 2 slots. Also with all that copper on its a heavy card. I was unable to re-assign monitor 2 as the primary. The fix was quite simple, just switch DVI connections.
- Other Thoughts: This card is replacing the X1950PRO which started to fail after 5 months of service. So it will be interesting to see if the card lasts any longer.
