3 out of 5 eggsVista Issues

Pros: No fans. Quite.

Cons: Major drivers issues with Vista. Sytems freezes and requires resetting. The PC won't turn off the monitor or go to sleep mode using this Video card (Vista OS). None of the NVIDIA software upadates, or Microsoft windows updates fixed the issues. Changed the Video card to an ATI based card and all the issues went away.

Other Thoughts: Nice vidoe card if you use it with XP.

2 out of 5 eggsgood features but poor quality

Pros: silent fanless heatsink, decent processing power

Cons: poor quality, first card was DoA

Other Thoughts: I bought this card because I've had previous video cards that died after the fan on the heatsink went out. However, the first card I got was dead upon installation. Thanks to Newegg's great customer service, I got a 2nd one that is working up to now with no problems. However, I just had another graphics card made by the same company (HIS) die after 3-4 months of light use. I would recommend that you spent the extra money and buy a video card made by a more reputable manufacturer.

4 out of 5 eggsProblems running Call of Duty

Pros: Perfectly quiet

Cons: Won't run Call of Duty 2 or 4 for me

Other Thoughts: Video card crashes just as Call of Duty 2 or 4 starts gameplay on Vista 32 Ultimate. Tried latest MSI and NVidea drivers. Tried on MSI K9VGM-V running Athlon 64 X2 4400+ Brisbane 2.3GHz and crucial ram. Also tried with and Soyo SL-915P-G running Pentium 4 540 3.2 Socket LGA 775 with same failure. Same results in Call of Duty safe mode. Both PC’s powered by Antec 380 watt PS. Card worked fine with Flight Sim X or running standard applications. I purchased this card for my son to run Call of Duty but it doesn’t work us, though I read on Newegg reviews of the MSI NX8500GT-TD256EH that some are successful. Hope this helps someone. Newegg accepted a refund request.

4 out of 5 eggsOverheats or VISTA?

Pros: Good graphics and acceptable speed

Cons: Overheats........ I have added two fans to my case and this helped somewhat, but still the system wil shutdown occasionally. Also, the driver has a problem with VISTA

Other Thoughts: Do your self a faver and get this card with a fan mounted on the card.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Silent!!!

Cons: The heat sink blocks another pci slot, but that was expected and a price I was willing to pay to make my pc quieter.

Other Thoughts: I was looking for a dual monitor graphics card without a fan so I bought this one. It is in a pc used for software development so I don't know the gaming performance.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome little HTPC card

Pros: Runs silent (duh) and is, despite the heatsink, very overclockable. After a run through of 3Dmark06, I only get it to 58*C with speeds of 578MHz Core/1003MHz RAM. For this price, it is an outstanding performer.

Cons: None at all.

Other Thoughts: It dropped $30 in price after I got it..... It was still worth it.

5 out of 5 eggsVideo Card 8500GT

Pros: Install Card no problems. Had to modify computer case huge heat sink. It's running around 64 c.. Not too bad.

Cons: If this card was made Low Profile would have been more helpful.

Other Thoughts: It runs Microsoft Flight x and Ubuntu 7.10 with all the 3D compfiz with no problems.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks for Me

Pros: Heat sink only, no extra fan to add to noise and moving parts that can fail. Seems to run cool enough this way. The accompanying software gives lots of options and makes overclocking easy when one is so inclined. Has some nice presets for changing the screen warmth, contrast, brightness, etc. depending on what type of applications you are running. DirectX 10 compataible for those who want to try the games and dabble with the latest DirectX release.

Cons: Because it only has a heatsink for cooling, you will want to make sure the card can still breath some.

Other Thoughts: It's an 8500 nVidia Chipset so you can run most of the games that are currently out there, just know that if you max out the demands on the card, there will be framerate issues. If you can't or don't want to afford a better chipset, this one will definitely get the job done. I could possibly give it a 5 rating, but a 4 feels more right to me.

3 out of 5 eggsIF YOUR CARD IS OVERHEATING!!!!!!!! <-------------------

Pros: Cheap with fairly good performance, but had ONE big problem. z0mG THE OVERHEATING!

Cons: OKAY. The first time I received this card, It overheated and damaged itself. So I RMA'd for a replacement. Next card I got started over heating also, luckily I shut down the comp before it could do any damage to itself. (I tested with a Nvidia 6200 card and it wasn't overheating). Then I got to the bottom of this. I took off the heatsink and then I found a PIECE OF PAPER with crusty thermal paste on it between the GPU core and heatsink. For your video card's sake, take that thing off! I applied some arctic silver 5 and strapped a 80mm fan to the heatsink. AND LO AND BEHOLD - 36C IDLE! WHAT THE HELL?! was what I said to myself. IT WAS IDLING 65C BEFORE! (and blew itself up on load on the first 8500GT I got). IF YOU HAVE HEAT PROBLEMS OR JUST WANT TO OVERCLOCK, TAKE OFF THE HEATSINK AND REMOVE THAT PIECE OF PAPER FROM THE HEATSINK.

Other Thoughts: First game I tried on it was bioshock. Sadly I couldn't run medium settings with high textures completely smoothly. I had 2.6 GHz dual core and 2GB of DDR2 RAM.
