5 out of 5 eggsJust what I expected!

Pros: Great RAID controller, easy to set up and maintain.

Cons: Little pricy

Other Thoughts: This was the first RAID controller I have ever set up and it went perfect. Over a year now and no issues at all.

2 out of 5 eggsQualtiy Control???

Pros: 3Ware's customer service is fine. They sent me a replacement card in two days.

Cons: Card failed outright in less than a month. That makes four reported short-term failures in 17 reviews. 3Ware reports their failure rate at less than 1%. Based on these reviews, I doubt this.

Other Thoughts: People who implement RAID are typically looking for reliability. This sort of failure rate does not inspire confidence.

5 out of 5 eggsBeen stable as a rock for over a year now

Pros: This card has been a workhorse in our VMware host server that houses all our heavily used test/dev VM guest servers. We've had it for more than a year now, and it has kept that server going without a hitch so far.

I absolutely love the SSL web-based management utility/service, which enables me to remotely administer the RAID controller and arrays from anywhere on our network. I also like the range of configuration options available, the logging, and the notification emails.

The performance is pretty good with RAID5, as long as you have the write caching turned on (with the BBU). I had my doubts about SATA RAID before, but not now. Actually had better luck with this SATA RAID than with some of the SCSI RAID systems I've had to deal with in the past.

I am going to buy one of these for my server at home here pretty soon.

Cons: First card we got was faulty within a week -- which is usually when devices like this will fail if there are problems with the build. But the 3Ware tech support was *very* helpful and sent out a RMA replacement practically overnight, without any quibbling. 2nd unit has been working flawlessly for over a year.

Other Thoughts: MAKE SURE TO GET THE BATTERY BACKUP UNIT MODULE. You will not get nearly as good RAID 5 performance unless you turn on the caching mode that relies on having the BBU in place.

4 out of 5 eggsNot cheapest but BEST

Pros: At my door in the course of a weekend.

Cons: Had to go to competitor to get WD's 5 year warranty on WD3200YS Drives because they are OEM from Newegg. I just wish I could have gotten them from Newegg because they have my confidence.

Other Thoughts: Newegg.com does not always offer the bottom price but their service is superior. I ordered this product on Friday and tracked it on Monday morning. The items were already at my door. I have had RMA's on other products and Newegg was always courteous and efficient. I do not hesitate to pay 10% more from Newegg over the no-name competitor that may make me miserable with the details. My time is worth mor than that. ---JSmith

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent card.

Pros: This card is a breeze to work with. Use it a lot in our servers. It is extremely fast and reliable. Just figured I'd comment here since there is some misinformation from other comments

Cons: Price, but, you get what you pay for.

Other Thoughts: I notice someone said, something about more space running in RAID10 than RAID5. If all 4 drives are the same size, then that is not possible. Raid 5 is N-1 where Raid 10 is N/2

To the person with problems with only 1 logical drive. You simply didn't look thru the settings hard enough, We sometimes do a RAID 1 + 1 single drive on these cards, and sometimes Raid 5 + 1 single. Easy to setup secondary logicals

5 out of 5 eggsGreat product!

Pros: Very quick to set up. Runs cool and smooth. The web-based management software is great, and so easy to use.

Cons: Unlike other RAID cards, I could not find a way to create more than 2 logical drives.

Other Thoughts: I've used a large assortment of RAID cards over the past 10 years. I purchased this card to replace a Dell PERC 5/i that somehow lost its configuration. For the money, this card is superior to the PERC.

5 out of 5 eggsFAST

Pros: fast
reliable

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I used this with 4 seagate ST3320620AS on RAID 10 and it BLOWS AWAY 4 SCSI drives on RAID 5 and gives me more space.
