Featuring 2 internal SATA2 ports, the Rosewill RC-211 controller card provides a simple, straightforward way to add more expansion to your system. Using a PCI-Express x1 interface you can now use that tiny slot on your motherboard for something besides gathering dust. Also supported is RAID 0, and RAID 1 to enhance data access and control. Compliant with the Serial ATA 2 specification, the RC-211 will handle most SATA devices -- just make sure the device you are adding is compatible. If the hard drives are SATA2, the RC-211 will deliver high speed transfer rates up to 3.0Gbps.
Support for NCQ (Native Command Queue) enhances hard drive performance. Whether you have a tower case or a low profile desktop chassis, the RC-211 can be used by installing the optional low profile bracket. Last but not least, the RC-211 includes drivers for most Windows operating systems including Windows 2000/XP/Vista and Windows Server 2003.
Tech Level: somewhat high - Ownership: 1 week to 1 month
Pros: Pci express - Aside from being able to make use of a slot most modern systems sport, it provides better bandwidth than standard PCI. Small form factor - The card is very small, the pictures don't do it justice. The small size easily makes it easy for smaller systems such as SFF boxes, rackmount servers, or really any box where smaller cards and tidy cables can be seen as an advantage. Affordable - Most pci express 1x cards are pretty expensive in comparison to standard pci alternatives but you'll find this solution to be just on par with other solutions. Compatible - The drivers listed on the site are compliant with all modern versions of windows, including server 2003, XP pro 64 bit and so on. Quality - The SI controller is fairly modern and provides decent RAID support for its price range, and it is SATA II compliant, as well as backwards compatible with SATA 150 drives.
Cons: Minimal expansion - With only 2 ports its really a rather weak product only suited to certain users. A 4 port version would certainly be worth paying more for.
Other Thoughts: I recently bought a new motherboard based on the 965P chipset with the ICH8 south bridge. The ICH8 has no RAID support, only the more expensive ICH8R does. So anyone not willing to spend premium prices on their boards will have to find other solutions to handle their RAID needs. For my workstation I needed to use RAID 0 to aid in my video editing and found this card to fit my needs perfectly.

Even better than expected

Pros: Everything worked perfectly, with no data lost as far as I can tell. I set up a RAID 1, and had one drive full of data and one new but formated. The Software is better than the manual that I downloaded but reading the manual ahead of time was a plus. The one that comes with the box is printed too small for me anyway.
Cons: I did have to buy two new SATA cables, because the one I had was too short and the new drive came without one.
Other Thoughts: I wish everytning was this easy.

This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: 1. Newegg's extremely fast shipping! 2. Went into my WHS with no issues. 3. Windows went ahead and download the most up-to-date drivers online for me (went to device manager). 4. Was able to add 2 1TB drives with ease!
Cons: Make it a 4 SATA 2 Port card?
Other Thoughts: Newegg is awesome! Would recommend this card if you building a WHS and need a couple of extra SATA II ports.

Great for Win7 old Asus boards

This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Works in Windows 7 64 bit with Vista drivers, easy install, opens SATA back up for the no longer supported SLI chipset that Asus and many other mbd manufactures kicked to the curb a while back. Cheap!
Cons: No Official Win7 drivers yet, but that's minor. Only 2 SATA connectors but then again it was cheap.
Other Thoughts: This is perfect for a comp that is still new but not new enough. Stupid companies that drop 2 year old tech...

Pros: Quick install Recognized by W7 Pro x64
Cons: Default BIOS position slows down boot-up; it can be disabled if you're just going to do JBOD
Having the SATA ports point upwards is a bit annoying for proper cable routing - having them point towards the HD cage(s) would be a lot easier
Kills transfers within 2 minutes. Scandisk cannot run successfully. Hangs computer when you try to reset it
Not recommended.
