Better than PPC 510
- Comments: I am running 2 XFX 7800GTX's and 4 GB of Corsair ram and a FX55 and this thing powers it all. I also have 4 WD 74GB Raptors with 2 DVD-RW's. I would HIGHLY recommend this psu over anything! I previously had a 510watt PC Power and Cooling but when that went out I got this! This is equal to the PPC PSU but IMHO its better!
Lasted 7 months
- Pros: Worked fine for everything but gaming.
Plenty of cables.
- Cons: After 7 months it couldn't handle the load when running games. Usually lasted about 5 minutes before it shut down without warning.
Only a 4 pin 12V.
- Other Thoughts: This just isn't a supply for high end systems. It was obviously the drain of the 2 7900 GTX cards running in SLI that caused my shutdowns as this only happened during gaming. I replaced it with a Thermaltake Toughpower 700W for the same price and not only did it solve my problems but the modular design and sleeved cables dropped my case temp about 2 degrees.

Died After 22 Months
- Pros: Looked great. Was quiet. Now it is Silent... :-(
- Cons: Paid $150 and according to my UPS it was providing 360 W. It was always connected to a UPS. Until one day I turned it off from its switch and it would not turn back on - no way, no how....
Replaced it with a 10 buck AR 500 W PS - not as quiet, but seemingly just as solid.
The system is just as over clocked....
I had expected more from Coolmax, but defects to happen and 10,000 hours is "Mean Time" between failure, so some could fail the first hour....
- Other Thoughts: Just contacted Coolmax regarding their 3 year product warranty. We'll see how they'll handle this warranty request.
Horrible, Noisy
- Pros: Powers everything so far.
- Cons: Noisier than anything else in my rig. I have to turn my music up loud, or keep the fan RPM on the unit to high to get rid of the constant grinding noise that the fan makes at low level RPM. This is when the PSU is under light load, and maximum load. DO NOT BUY if you're going for the noise factor.
- Other Thoughts: I'm on my second unit, and it's doing the exact same thing. So far, I've paid about 140 for this thing due to extra shipping for the replacement. You'd be better off buying Corsair or someone else with a better track record.
I had to find CoolMax's U.S. Distributor phone number off of a review site for this PSU. Simply ridiculous. I wish I would have paid like 20 bucks more for a better brand.
If you want their number U.S. phone number, it can be found at toptechusa dot com. Go to the "About Us" section. Tell them that their PSU's suck while you're at it.
COOLMAX Getting A Bad Rap
- Pros: Worked great right out of the box, all the connections I could need or want, & nice sleeved cables w/ plenty of length to reach everything in a large gigabyte aurora full tower. 2 years of hardcore long gaming sessions w/o a hiccup whatsoever......knock on wood
- Cons: None
- Other Thoughts: I used this power supply for my first computer build over two years ago and it's still trucking. I don't think it is noisy. I game for at least 2-3hrs in one sitting, sometimes spending over 7hrs straight on Oblivion, COH, COD, BF2. My whole family uses this computer, so it is on at least 8hrs/day 7-days a week. AMD Athlon X2 4400+, EVGA 7800GTX, Sounblaster Xfi Platinum, 2X WD CaviarSE16 7200RPM 250gb HDD's in RAID 0, 3X 120mm fans, 2 Optical dvd/cd-rom combo drives, Asus A8N-SLI Premium mobo, G-skill 2X1GB DIMMS
