An important tip from one of our users: don't just check total power output, find out what you need in the way of current on each power rail. If you need 20 A on your +12V rails and the supply only has 15A, it doesn't matter how many watts the supply puts out: don't buy it. Make certain that you have ENOUGH rails, too: sometimes, you need more than just two +12V rails for your setup.
Replacing an existing power supply is easier: just get a replacement that meets or exceeds the specifications of the old one. (You can usually find those printed on the side of the supply.)
That said, here's a power supply that is compatible with most ATX format motherboards, puts out 750 watts of power (see specifications for exact distribution). Could this be your next power supply?
Pros: 750 watts, I don't have a 8800GTX SLI setup, but I do have an 8800GTS and it runs great (will go SLI when I get the money). It is certified for SLI on them, and it should work great. I get no errors or startup problems with this because it has so much power. My old one would do random restarts (550watts) but this is rock solid. Modular cabling is great and saves a lot of spaace. Oh, and by the way this thing runs very quiet and moves a decent amount of air so it runs cool too.
Cons: I also had the same problem with installing it into an Armor case. It took me a couple minutes to get it in, but after I figured it out then it wasn't too hard to get it in. Just remove all the modular cables and it goes in a LOT easier.
Other Thoughts: Even though it may be a little tricky to install, it's a great PSU. I'm running 3 sata HDDS, 8800gts, 3800x2 (939), 2gigs of ram, dvd drive, floppy, 4 fans, and cold cathode lighting. This thing runs without a hitch.

Pros: This is the great product. first off let me start off with. MODULAR!!!!! which means "use the cables that you need". This thing is really flexible and easy to install. its a breeze. you get everything you need. read the specs of this thing for more info
Cons: The main power connector is only 24 pins. but that is no problem for me. for others that have 20pin main power connect, get the silverstone short cable kit (model number "SST-PP03") that has a 20+4 main pin connect
Other Thoughts: This thing has 4 PCI Express power connects. for those massive DirectX 10 cards.

Pros: $125 for a modular psu! Silverstone is very well regarded by many gamers who push the limits on peripherals which need all that power. Big 200 series cards and several opti drives, audio cards, etc. 750 watts should be fine...do your hw tho' add up how many drives, cards total watts will be used to see if 750 covers it. I bought an 850w non-mod pus in 2007 that was from another good mfg and was so much more! I also use 1- XFX 9800 gtx card so i dont need a 6+2 pin pci-e x16 connector just a 6 pin one.
Cons: If youre going to upgrade to a 200 series graphic card, this isnt the psu for you. Thats why its $125. That is really the only issue i can think of and if you have an 800 series or a 900 series, grab it!
Other Thoughts: Thermaltake TR2 W0366RU 700W ATX 12V v2.2 Modular Active PFC Power Supply. This is not as strong by 50w but may have those connectors you need for 200 series and its also about $125 and another decent brand co to consider here on the egg. S/H is $10 and psu is $114 or so...

Pros: Does what its made to do. Good wire management system.
Cons: Died after 2 years of easy use. Its hard to understand how a PSU dies when you only pull at most 400 watts at the plug, and its rated at 750.
Other Thoughts: I have surge and UPS on all my systems. If i was drawing godly ammounts of power threw it i can see it, but ive been using it on an HTPC system for over a year now. And even when it was my gaming system, I never drew anywhere near enough power to cause this unit to fail after only 2 years.

Not bad, but not great, especially for the money.

This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Has reliably provided power for my High End HTPC for almost two years. The system has a GTX 260, a pair of 7200 RPM drives, and a quad core processor. The case is very cramped (I had to bend heatsink fins on the CPU cooler to get everything to fit and use tin snips to make room for the video card, what you get for shoving a high end gaming PC into an HTPC enclosure) and runs pretty hot. Power has been completely reliable, though.
Cons: The fan that it came with failed in short order. I replaced it with a ballbearing fan within a month or so of buying it, which has worked fine since, but for the price and power level a deceont fan should have come with it.
Other Thoughts: I probably won't buy another power supply by Silverstone. The case I got I still like, though.
