Multitasking leaps to a new high with the AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ AM2! With dual processor cores each running at 2.2GHz, this Socket AM2 processor can manage two streams of data simultaeously while running multiple programs and the new generation of multi-threaded software. This advanced development, once seen only in "supercomputers" allows you to switch between programs without annoying delays, resulting in major performance jumps! It's integrated with a high-bandwidth, low-latency memory controller enabling support for up to DDR400 memory.
AMD has significantly reduced power consumption for these chips, allowing your system to run cooler even at higher speeds. Other features including support for 3DNow! Professional technology and SSE3 accelerate multimedia applications and enable stellar performance when working with audio, video and photography software. This is an excellent value when you look at performance for the price; you can't do much better!

very happy
- Pros: I just built my own system for the first time after owning a Dell Dimension 4400 so this thing was a huge upgrade for me. Plays Oblivion at 1600x1200 resolution with all settings on maximum at 29.5 fps during multiple character battles. I don't expect to have to upgrade for several years.
- Cons: Really wanted the X2 4000+ with 2MB cache but it was out of stock. Also, Newegg dropped the price by $40 the week after I bought it.
- Other Thoughts: Originally I ordered the FX-62 from a competitor but cancelled after waiting two weeks and being told it wouldn't be in stock for another 10 days. Blessing in disguise as there is no way I needed to shell out that kind of money, this chip is rock solid. Have an Asus M2N32-SLI Deluxe MB, 7900 GTX, and 2 gigs of Corsair 4-4-4-12 (PC 6400). Thanks for the honest advertising, Newegg. I'll never go elsewhere.
This CPU Rocks!
- Pros: Plugged it right in my Gigabyte board. It replaced a 3800 single core. It fired right up and man does it scream. Video rendering was cut from 2.5 hours to less than an hour. I'm definitely satisfied. Boot times are much better too.
- Cons: None really. Oh, the only way it could have been better is if it fetched me a beer and installed itself while I watched.
- Other Thoughts: Newegg is great!

- Pros: Good processor for the casual computer user
- Cons: None
Surprisingly Good
- Pros: 1. Able to O'C to 2.42GHz on stock fan and heatsink with ease(need to upgrade RAM to PC2 5300 level in order to O'C it more). 2. Part of a system that out performs my friends 2.4GHz(stock setting) Intel duo core
- Cons: My Mobo doesn't use the 1.30V setting
Incredible speed
- Pros: This CPU flawlessly keeps up with my demands, and I have the CompizConfig Settings Manager package installed with "Gutsy Gibbon" Ubuntu 7.10. There is no lag whatsoever. This CPU also kept up with a Gutsy live CD with absolutely zero lag (except for loading programs or menus).
Even at 2.2GHz, the dual-cores effectively double the CPU's capabilities.
- Cons: None that I can think of at all.

Highlights
 |
AMD64 Dual-core Technology AMD64 is designed to enable simultaneous 32- and 64-bit computing with no degradation in performance. With dual-core technology there are two complete processor cores in one physical package running at the same frequency to deliver TRUE multi-tasking power, allowing users to switch from one program to another without pausing for the computer to catch up and reducing annoying processing pauses.
|
 |
HyperTransport Technology HyperTransport Technology (HT or HTT) is a high-speed, low latency and point-to-point link designed to increase communication speeds between integrated circuits in computers, servers, embedded systems and networking and telecommunications equipment. The Athlon 64 X2 4200+ AM2 processor is equipped with HT technology to enable a system bus speed of up to 2000MHz, delivering a maximum of 8GB/s I/O bandwidth.
|
 |
AMD Virtualization Virtualization on desktop computers allows a single PC to act like multiple virtual machines. AMD Virtualization can enable client computers to seamlessly support multiple operating environments. And it also helps make it easier for PC enthusiasts to upgrade and maintain their PCs through emulation.
