5 out of 5 eggsinstalled in a tower server

Pros: I bought this thing in 2006 and it has pretty much been running ever since then.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I'm looking at that old server now and it's been up for 16 months (Win 2003), and I think the last time I shut it down was to replace the battery backup.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent CPU for people on a budget

Pros: Excellent CPU for people on a budget. This CPU can handle moderate gaming with a good video card. Good for the price

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Socket 754 is getting dated.

3 out of 5 eggsDecent little processor

Pros: Worked well for its purpose, which was a temporary stopgap for a larger beast.

Cons: Cringing at the thought I paid close to 3x the amount it is currently going for three years ago. Severely crippled by lack of L2 cache. Overclocking mileage will vary greatly on this model.

Other Thoughts: Even at the time I purchased it, this processor was pretty much useless. Even overclocked, the cache severely limits this processor. There are much better processors that can be had currently for only tenspot more. Literally the only role I can see this filling currently is if you have a Socket 754 system with a dead processor you would like to revive for light duty (say as a local file server).

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing CPU that overclocks like you wouldn't believe

Pros: At stock speed it idles at 22C (27C when overclocked to 2.28GHz), 90nm core that runs only slightly above room temperature, very low price, puts Celeron Ds to shame, 256KB L2 (some other Sempron's have 128KB), AMD makes amazing processors, I can go on forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cons: What cons, the Sempron does not know the meaning of the word. No cons here.

Other Thoughts: I have a Sempron 64 2800+ that I have running at 2.28GHz (285x8) with the voltage at 1.54V (up 10% from the stock 1.4V). That's a 42.5% overclock! I could not get it Prime 95 stable at any higher clock speed, although the instability may have been from my Biostar NF61S Micro 754 motherboard. To tell you the truth I did not think I would even get to the speed I have it at now. I knew these Sempron’s overclocked like mad but I did not know how far my motherboard would go. My motherboard went much farther than I thought it would go (not bad for $26, I grabbed one when New Egg had the open box versions for sale). I actually had it running at 2.4GHz (300x8) for a little while but had to back it down to 2.28GHz in order to get it to be Prime 95 stable. This CPU is just an amazing performer for the money, although if you need a socket 754 CPU right now I would go with the 2.2GHz Athlon 64 3200+ for $36. I love overclocking, especially CPU’s that overclock like this one! GO AMD!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5 out of 5 eggsRock Steady at 30'C!

Pros: Good little cpu for the $$$. Rock steady at 30'c, and easy to o/c if you want to do this.

Cons: Socket 754, and only 256mb L2 cache.

Other Thoughts: Not bad for a buget soho computer or even a light gaming rig. Plays Halo very well!

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Great processor. Retail with heatsink, fan, and warranty for only a few bucks more than OEM.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Sorry to see socket 754 being discontinued with AGP motherboards.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing for the Price!

Pros: -256 kB L2 cache
-HyperTransport
-64-bit (bleh, no real use yet though)
-Very overclockable. I OC'd mine to 2.0 GHz with the ASRock K8NF6G-VSTA, and this is my first time. I have not tried going higher, as I only have a 200W psu , but I bet I could.
-After OC, temps are 30C idle and 44C with a half-hour constant 100% load.
-Runs pretty much any browser game at highest qualities. Also, I've tried both the PSX emulator and N64 emulator, and they run pretty good, albeit not at highest settings - but that's because I only have onboard Geforece 6100 video right now.

Cons: Do you see the price?! It works, and works well, I can't give a con to it.

Other Thoughts: Be sure, this chip ain't gunna get cheaper, and no quality processor is EVER this cheap, so buy NOW! And don't opt for those 1.8 GHz Semprons with 128 kB L2 cache either; just get this and overclock it up there. Seriously, overclocking couldn't be easier, especially with the ASRock K8NF6G-VSTA motherboard. Go build yourself a $200 computer using this processor - I did, and am very happy.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Budget Chip!

Pros: For the price, this chip is hard to beat. I used this Palermo to build my brother a computer he can do some light gaming and work on. It handles applications like Photoshop and games like Warcraft III (coupled with a 6200 LE it does max settings no problem). Very cheap and reliable!

Cons: Socket 754 is outdated now. Will not handle heavier applications such as BF2142 and has some trouble when under heavy multitasking.

Other Thoughts: If money is a concern and heavy gaming is not your thing, this chip is more than enough! Pick this over the Celeron, it is cheaper and runs cooler.

5 out of 5 eggsWorking Horse

Pros: Its perfect for my little file-server. Don't need any high performance, compared to the old 1GHz Athlon, which died serving the community, it is still as significant speed up.

Cons: It does not cook coffee
