5 out of 5 eggsExcellent CPU for budget gaming PC

Pros: Simply put, you can not get anything better at this price. Runs extremely cool with stock cooler even when OC'ed. Easily overclock to 2.1 Ghz on a Biostar Tforce AM2 MB. I slapped 2 Gb ram and a 7600GT into the rig, and this thing runs like a champ.

Cons: Single core, couldn't go any higher than 2.15. Hey, it's only 4X bucks.

Other Thoughts: The smaller cache is only noticeable at the split second when you open up an application. It makes no difference in Battlefield 2 comparing to another PC with exactly the same set up but a faster CPU (X2 3800 OCed to 2.6Ghz)

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Processor So Far

Pros: I bought this processor to go in the Gigabyte GA-M55plus S3G (rev2.1) socket AM2 motherboard I bought from Newegg for my new computer. I've tinkered inside computers before, but this is the first one I actually built myself. This processor went into place without incident and has been running quite well ever since I hit the power button. It's relatively efficient, and the fan and heatsink that come with it are excellent for the processor when run at its normal clocking speed. Easy to install, too. No heat paste is required. And with only the processor fan at full speed and the two system fans in my computer, this baby runs at the astounding temperature of only 18 degrees celsius! Don't ask me how! Even for its small cache size and modest speed, this processor performs quite well for for average multitasking. Coupled with 512 MB of PNY Optima DDR2 533mhz RAM, it's a lean, mean fighting machine! I hope to add another 512 stick in the board, too, to get some real power out of this machine

Cons: There are no cons with this processor, if you're purchasing it for basic computing (Word processing, internet use) and average multimedia use (burning CDs, and DVDs, watching movies, playing music or basic recording). I'm running windows XP Professional and open all kinds of explorer windows, play music, online games and flash movies, and browse the Internet all at once and haven't had a problem yet!

Other Thoughts: For basic computing or for building yourself a decent starter system with upgrade capabilities (AM2 boards can handle Athalon 64X2's and DDR2 RAM), this is an excellent processor, especially for the money. It's great for the first-time computer builder or anyone who wants decent performance for a reasonable price.

I wouldn't buy this processor if you're expecting to play new, high-performance games on it. But for pretty much any average computer user who wants a quality, reliable processor for a reasonable price, this is the processor for you.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat AM2 CPU!!

Pros: If you're looking at this chip you're probably on a budget and scratching your head wondering what kind of cpu you'll get for such a cheap price.. you're also looking at the fact that it's only got 128k. Why buy this chip? Well it means that you either allready have or are planning on buying an AM2 compatible motherboard or system.. if you're thinking this, you're on the right track. If you're on a budget and wondering if you should go with some of the other socket types, I would say don't do it. All the old sockets are dieing. Go with the AM2 socket and in the future you can upgrade to a faster chip for cheap in spring of 2007 when the prices come down. The other reason to get this chip is that it's actually a very fast chip. It runs about 40% faster than my older AMD Athlon Socket A 3300+ 2.2 ghz processor. Even though it's the cheapest slowest of the AM2 chips, you can't go wrong here.. I put this into a Shuttle XPC SK22G2B mini pc system and it runs great

Cons: Small cache, has some limitations for games that are cpu hungry. No dual core of course. It's slow, but what does it mean to be slow in the processor world these days? It's not like the old econo chips like the Duron or Celeron which were pretty much useless. This is a vital and fast chip. If you're a had core gamer it's not for you, but it's plenty fast for just about any task and windows xp 32bit and xp 64 soar at good speeds.

Other Thoughts: This chip loves to be overclocked. I've gotten it up to 2.2ghz easly in my Shuttle mini pc and no temp problems at all. And it actually does play games just fine with very few limitations. It's a great deal. If you can afford a chip with a bigger cache, go for it, but if you're on a budget and really want to enter the AM2 platform, here is your chance! There is a reason this cheap is always out of stock! People know a good thing when they find it. I'm guessing people are buying it up in huge quantities to build systems for resale.
