Crush you enemies, climb the tower of paperwork, do both at the same time. Intel's Core 2 Duo E6420 not only makes it possible, it makes it easy. Carved from a Conroe die each of the 2 cores runs at 2.13GHz and shares 4MB of L2 cache.
This processor is an integral part of Intel's Viiv technology. Your Viiv-based PC can easily access a wide variety of on-demand entertainment sources that you can display on either your monitor or play through your home theater setup. But it’s not just movies, there’s also TV, music and games. It also makes it easier to manage the music, video and photos on your PC.
Two cores means true multi-tasking and multi-threading. Tasks or threads get their own core, no more sharing one core and set of clock cycles. This lets you turn your system into the ultimate home entertainment center PC. One core can play a DVD on the TV, the second sends audio to the kids in another room with no lags or stutters. All this is made easier with Intel’s Digital Media Boost.

WOW!!
- Pros: Incredible. I was going to buy the 6600 when the price droped, but then I read reviews on 6420. 8x multiplier makes them an easy Overclock to 3.2, which apparently nearly all will do (including mine)I just set the memory speed to 533MHz in BIOS on the Biostar 965PT, then changed memory voltage to 2.0 and FSB to 400. Stock voltage on the CPU.
Most of the reviews I have read on the 6420 show similiar overclocks to the 6600 for forty dollars less.
Is sailing through Prime 95 torture test now.
It may well run faster than 3.2, maybe I'll push it more or maybe I won't. I have always been the "low hanging fruit" type of overclocker. Whatever the CPU and memory will do without a big voltage (and thus temperature)boost.
How fast? My Pentium D 805 overclocked to 3.32GHz did Super PI 1MB in 39 seconds. 2MB in 1m 27 seconds. 4MB in 3m 11sec. The C2D 6420 at stock 2.13GHz 1MB 23 sec, 2MB 56 sec, 4MB 2m 9sec. At 3.2Ghz, 1MB 16sec, 2MB 41 seconds, 4MB 1m 26sec. 2x faster!
- Cons: What cons? It isn't free? It won't self install?
- Other Thoughts: Why buy the 6600 for forty bucks more? Or the 6700 for over one hundred bucks. 3.2Ghz seems to be the sweet and easy overclock on these processors. This processor's 8x multiplier makes that easy.
Does anyone now purchase the 2MB cache 6300 and 6400 processors? When the 4MB versions cost the same and are faster?
BTW, I'm using inexpensive Super Talent PC 5300 memory (667MHz) that easily does 800 MHz at 2.0v. This much performace for soooo little cash!!
If you don't OC, you're wasting it!
- Pros: Easily OC'd mine to 3.4 GHZ with only 1.365v. With stock cooling it idles at 35C, going up to 44C under heavy stress. Before OC, it was 28C idle. Stock fan is quiet.
- Cons: None
- Other Thoughts: C2D 6420 @ 3.4ghz

E6420 is a solid overclock
- Pros: Overclocked with a Asus P5bDelux, on the MB had to change many options but I'm stable at 3.2 and its been just under a year. Great Chip!
- Cons: none! if anything umm nope none!
- Other Thoughts: i think the mb helped with the overclock but great chip
great
- Pros: first build. easy install. fan is pretty quiet. running WoW, bioshock at max settings and no issues (besides a bum video card). rips cds very fast. WoW used to hitch up a lot when running a site with flash ads--not anymore. can alt tab while running more than one processor intensive apps and pretty much no slowdown. best thing? haven't even overclocked yet.
- Cons: no problems.
- Other Thoughts: fan IS quiet, but seems to make a--ghostly?--whining sound. don't know if this is normal, or even actually the processor fan itself. i'll probably replace the stock someday, or see if manually turning up the fan speed stops it from slowing down/speeding up.
Couldnt be happier
- Pros: CPU is awesome. I've been a long time AMD fan, but couldnt resist crossing over for a taste. Im hooked. This CPU performs 10x better than expected. Able to play games like CoD4 and AoC at max settings with no hiccups at all.
- Cons: none at all
- Other Thoughts: For the price you definately get a bang for your buck. Intel has definately won me over.

Highlights
 |
Dual-core Processing with 4MB Shared L2 Cache The Intel Core 2 Duo E6420 Conroe processor features two complete processor cores in one physical package. Significant performance headroom, especially for multi-threaded applications, helps boost system utilization through virtualization and application responsiveness. Its 4MB shared L2 cache increases efficiency of L2 cache-to-processor data transfer, maximizes main memory to processor bandwidth and reduces latency.
|
 |
Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology (EIST) EIST allows the system to dynamically adjust processor voltage and core frequency to decrease average power consumption and average heat production. Combined with existing power saving features, EIST may provide an excellent balance between providing power when you need it and conserving power when you don't.
|
 |
Intel Extended Memory 64 Technology (Intel EM64T) Enhances next-generation IA-32 platforms with 64-bit addressability and related instructions, allowing flexibility for both 64-bit and 32-bit applications and operating systems.
|
 |
Intel Virtualization Technology (Intel VT) Intel Virtualization Tehcnology makes it even easier to increase server utilization in your data center by consolidating more applications, while improving data center reliability and adding robustness to virtualized systems.
|
 |
Execute Disable Bit (EDB) Intel's Execute Disable Bit function can prevent certain classes of malicious "buffer overflow" attacks when combined with a supporting operating system. Execute Disable Bit allows the processor to classify areas in memory where application code can execute and where it cannot. When a malicious worm attempts to insert code in the buffer, the processor disables code execution, preventing damage or worm propagation.
