5 out of 5 eggsYay Presshot

Pros: Use for years in a PC for an elderly friend after I retired it from being in my gaming PC. All the heat-hate these chips got never detracted from the raw power they could unleash. Hyperthreading at it's prime.

Cons: None. I loved this CPU.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I clamped it in place over a year ago and it's been running like a champ ever since. Asus p4p800-e deluxe mobo.

Cons: The stock fan is starting to go out but is giving me plenty of "notice noise" so I can get a new one ordered.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Price and Speed

Pros: I've been using this processor for over a year now with no problems. I currently use it with an ASUS P4P800-MX motherboard and a gig of memory. I don't do overclocking, so no comments on it.

Cons: Over a year and it still runs. Nothing bad to say about it.

5 out of 5 eggs478 is a dying breed Get yours today

Pros: 3.0 GHZ, overclockable to almost 3.3GHZ (on a Shuttle).

2x 1GB Cache (so pickup matching GB's of ram)

Is compatible with I.C.E. cooling system that comes with most Shuttle SFF's (used this Prescot with a very old ST62K)

Cons: Tends to run Hot 60 to 80 degrees Celsius unless the fan is on full 12 volt speed (Then it's rather cool).

Didn't really need the retail heat sink, or the scary warranty info, though the size of it almost scared me away from putting the Prescott in my SFF Shuttle.

3.0 GHZ is about what my 2.4 GHZ Northwood was overclocakable too.

Felt the need to mod the case some more---removed the 3.5"/Card reader port from the case to make a wind tunnel with the case on---may need a dust filter over that.

Other Thoughts: 478 is a dying breed, so upgrade today.

With poor cooling, take the case off and this doubles as a space heater.

4 out of 5 eggsSo far so good

Pros: With an asus p4p800 se, 2xgig OCZ, x800xt pe I bought refurbed- been stable OC at 3.9ghz just with the asus bios+AI Booster. Got this chip open box item for $60, paid a tad extra for some good thermal compound.

Cons: Compared to that vid card this thing runs cool heh. Did some case modding and got 3.9oc with 38-41 idle 45-54c load. Gonna get drill out tomorrow see if a fan up top will drop that a bit more.

Other Thoughts: If you shop smart you can get a high performance machine with this old 478 chip set. Sure you'll be capped on upgrades but screw it. Bet for $500 you can get similar bench marks as a $2+k machine bought stock- specially if you go refurbed and open box. Only once had a prob (vid card) and company got me a replacement very quickly.

5 out of 5 eggsHit 4.2GHZ on AIR

Pros: Excellent overclocker, heat not an issue with a Tornado(6000RPM, 64cfm) blowing on the TT TR2-M12. $15 from NewEgg
Running 24/7 @ 3.75 on stock Vcore. 24ºC idle 38ºC load.

Cons: If you could call it a con. Can't get it above 4.2GHZ

Other Thoughts: Although I didn't purchase this CPU from NewEgg, actually "I" didn't purchase it at all, my boss did after I built a few PC's for him, this CPU has been rock stable @ 3.75 for over 6 months. With my MSI Neo2 Plat, purchased here, I was able to push this beast to 4.2 with a bump to 1.525 Vcore without heat issues at all. A few case mods and (4)80mm,1 front, 1 rear, 2 side(blowing on RAM and HSF), (1)90mm top, and this baby flies along just fine. If you aren't ready to upgrade your entire system yet, and want to push your socket 478 MB to the next level, get this CPU, but, get an aftermarket HSF. Oh, and for those skeptics out there, feel free to check out CPU-Z validated at if you don't believe that this CPU will OC like crazy!!!

4 out of 5 eggsPrescott should be called "PresHott"

Pros: HT technology, 1Mb L2, very fast

Cons: Runs extremely HOT! Mine idles @ 60 celsius & during 95% load will run mid to high 80 celsius.

Other Thoughts: Bought this to replace my 2.0 Northwood wich idled in mid 20's when it was overclocked 15%. This Prescott is definately faster with the HT but you could fry an egg on it even with Arctic Silver 5 & a very high performance cooling system such as mine. I don't have it overclocked either. But after some research I've found that this is normal for the "PresHott" & have had no problems with it so far. But I'm afraid to OC it.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Older, but still a good processor, handles most games no problem

Cons: Runs hot, mine sits at about 123 Farenheit idle, and after a game it goes up to about 137, and at that point my fan sounds like a hairdryer.

Other Thoughts: It works, and is keeping me going until I can afford my big gaming rig.

4 out of 5 eggsNot bad...doesn't live up to Northwood

Pros: 1MB L2

Cons: Doesn't overclock nearly as well as Northwood, runs really really hot.

Other Thoughts: I can't seem to get mine stable at anything above 3.5Ghz even with vcore adjustments, won't boot above 3.6Ghz. Kind of sad considering I got around twice the OCing results with my old Northwood.

5 out of 5 eggsFast and Reliable

Pros: Installed this CPU on an ASUS P4C800-E MB a 16 months ago. I have it overclocked at 3.6 GHz with stock fan. It doesn't get much better than this at this price.

Cons: Ran hot - removed Intel thermal strip and applied Artic Silver 5 and it runs much cooler.
