The Pentium 4 640 proves that there's still some life in the line yet. Running at a fast 3.2GHz with 2MB of L2 cache this HyperThreading processor is designed to deliver great performance. HyperThreading allows the processor to execute 2 threads in parallel, improving system speed and responsiveness. That combined with the increased performance you get from Intel 64 technology will boost productivity and efficiency.

You don't always need to run at full power. That's where Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology comes into play. When full power isn't needed, the processor allows the operating system to save energy (and money). This will save a bit on the electric bill. It will also keep things cooler because power generates heat, and keeping it cooler will help it last longer.

Pentium still has power -- pick one up and feel it for yourself!

  • newegg Intel Pentium 4 Processor The Intel Pentium 4 Processor is designed to deliver performance across usages—such as image processing, video content creation, games and multimedia—where end-users can truly appreciate the performance.
  • newegg Greater Performance with Hyper-Threading Technology (HT Technology) Greater Performance with Hyper-Threading Technology (HT Technology) Hyper-threading enables multi-threaded software applications to execute two software threads in parallel to improve system responsiveness. Intel Pentium 4 Processors enabled with HT Technology deliver performance and multitasking gains that result in increased productivity and efficiency.
  • newegg Intel Extended Memory 64 Technology (Intel EM64T) Enhances next-generation IA-32 platforms with 64-bit addressability and related instructions, allowing flexibility for both 64-bit and 32-bit applications and operating systems.
  • newegg Execute Disable Bit (EDB) Intel's Execute Disable Bit function can prevent certain classes of malicious "buffer overflow" attacks when combined with a supporting operating system. Execute Disable Bit allows the processor to classify areas in memory where application code can execute and where it cannot. When a malicious worm attempts to insert code in the buffer, the processor disables code execution, preventing damage or worm propagation.
  • newegg Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology (EIST) EIST allows the system to dynamically adjust processor voltage and core frequency to decrease average power consumption and average heat production. Combined with existing power saving features, EIST may provide an excellent balance between providing power when you need it and conserving power when you don’t.

5 out of 5 eggsStill going strong

Pros: This is still going stong. I paid $xxx for it back then. At $xx now it would be a steal to build a $500 system and be able to run anything out there.

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsLove it!

Pros: This processor is a giant leap from my Athlon XP, performs very well and has a great price! Installation was a breeze and had no complications.

Cons: As other reviews stated, the heatsink could be better, but CPU temp has always remained stable.

4 out of 5 eggsGood CPU

Pros: It's not AMD... Very good processor. Went from a 3ghz prescott that didn't have 64-bit support and had a 1mb cache. With this it added a nice touch to both boot up times and games. Ran Bioshock on it without the notice of periodic jerks.

Cons: Using this with Vista Ultimate and playing games just about meets the RIP of these P4's. Also takes a long time to boot Vista using this CPU, but for an XP machine and half way decent gaming it still works ok.

Other Thoughts: Good for home users and every day use. Half way decent for gaming.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Good proc. Never had any trouble with this item. Has served me well for over a year.

Cons: The heatsink wasn't all that good, barely kept the CPU cool, had to go with another one; after the clips broke.

4 out of 5 eggsGood processor, but tricky to connect

Pros: Fast

Cons: Securing the heatsink to the motherboard is tricky. Took me several tries to get it perfect. If you don't have it on there tight, the processor will overheat.

Other Thoughts: I usually buy AMD processors, but this one appeared to be the better bang for the buck for what I wanted to use it for. I'll probably stick with AMD in the future, as they've been a lot easier to install.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome!

Pros: Super fast for the price! Performs every task I throw at it with time to spare!

Cons: Less than adequate in.tel heatsink! Go with a Zalman!

Other Thoughts: I have been using P4's in systems for my clients for years. Everyone is very happy. This processor (for my server) is no exception.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Little Thing

Pros: This thing is great, runs everything i throw at it and doesnt lag, with enough ram. i highly reccomend this.

Cons: The heatsink and fan could be better but mine runs ok, i run at aroung 47c with stock cooler, imagine what you can do with an aftermarket one.

Other Thoughts: Im sure youve already read hundreds of reviews, stop looking at just buy this, you wont be dissapointed, what are you waiting for?
