5 out of 5 eggsNew BIOS Asus P5E

Pros: A little under 1250 on a Asus P5E X38 with 4x1, Q6700 @ 8x416.

Cons: Had to wait a long time for a BIOS from Asus that would work.

Other Thoughts: I was using the Rampage 0403 BIOS with my P5E and happy to be running 1120, with the release of BIOS 0903 I've been able to run at rated speed with ease. At present I'm running a E8500 @ 9.5x 432 ram at 1152, 5-5-5-15-3-42 with a tRD of 6.

2 out of 5 eggsNot what I had hoped

Pros: Cheap.

Cons: I have never, in the fifteen years or so of building my own machines, had to jump through so many hoops to make 1200 memory run at -- gasp -- 1200 like it's supposed to. Like the guy before me, I put this in an Asus P5Q motherboard (I actually built two machines identically in one day) using Vista Home Premium 64, and while it detects all four gigs in each machine, it detects them at 800 mhz. So far, all the back and forth e-mails between myself and a customer rep at Patriot have solved nothing. Half the stuff I am supposed to change in the BIOS is either not there, or changes all the letter coloring to yellow if I up values. Lots of fun? Um, no.

Other Thoughts: A guy throwing a machine together shouldn't have to practically design a new BIOS just to run memory. I've never had this problem with Corsair. If you're out there, Patriot people, do me a favor, research this particular motherboard (again, the ASUS P5Q) and tell me EXACTLY what it is I am supposed to do. No more of this "try this, try that" stuff.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Tony,

We are sorry for the inconvenience this matter has caused you. When using high performance modules, it is not recommended to occupy all memory banks as the higher bandwidth on these modules will require the timing and the voltage to be even more tweaked and may even cause instability with the system.

With Regards,

Guy

4 out of 5 eggsKind of tricky to set up.

Pros: I made it run stable!!!

Cons: It won’t run at manufacturer's spec even thought my Asus P5Q motherboard's memory standard is 1200mhz. Supposedly it needs an "extreme chipset." Lowering the MHz wasn't enough. I finally got it to run stable when I lowered the voltage from 2.3 to 2.2v. Now I run it at a stable 1066 MHz and 5-5-5-12 timing.

Other Thoughts: Intel P45 chipset not good enough for this RAM? It works great at 2.2v, 1066mhz, and 5-5-5-12 timing. I have a 3.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and PC Power and Cooling 750 watt PSU.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Greg B,

Thank you for choosing Patriot Memory. We apologize for the inconvenience this matter may have caused you. Contact support@patriotmem.com for any questions you might have.

With Regards,

Guy

5 out of 5 eggs$ gig needs higher MCI voltage.

Pros: LordArathres and others with 4gig of RAM you need more voltage for the memory controller to run 4 gig of memory and have it stable and at full rated speed.

Just increase it in gradual increments until it hold up and passes mem testing or system loads.

Cons: N/A

5 out of 5 eggs4x1GB and Nvidia chipsets

Pros: Will do advertized speed @ 2.2v@ 5-5-5-12-2T

Cons: Doesn't do very tight timings. Uses a low tRAS at the expense of a high tRC.

Other Thoughts: To the earlier poster: Nvidia has a limitation on their chipsets that when running 4 sticks the max mem fsb =1066. That is why 2 will work at 1200 and 4 won't.

4 out of 5 eggsVery nice for the price

Pros: Was ready to purchase a set of Corsair Dominator PC8500 2GB kit when I found these guys for less on Newegg. Stable after some tweaking but for the price, I'm not going to complain.

Cons: Speed was not auto-detected on my EVGA 680i board so went into bios to manually set speed. Kept bsod after 20 minutes or so of usage so I lowered the speed to 1066 MHz. Stable after that. My only other gripe is that after I bought it, the price dropped some more. Oh well, story of my life.

5 out of 5 eggsgood memory

Pros: Memory works as advertised! Super fast, very stable. No problems with it at all. Excellent price point.

Cons: Memory does get quite warm, even running at 1066MHz. I have just ordered a Thermaltake CL-P0464 80mm CPU Cooler that also blows over the RAM. This should keep it cool enough!

5 out of 5 eggs4 GB Problem

Pros: I am having an issue with this memory. I bought a 2 GB kit when I first bought my system and it was great as reviewed by me earlier. I bought 2 more GB for a total of 4 and now I am having problems.

Cons: I cannot run the memory at 1200 Mhz. My MB just simply gives me a long beep and resets my BIOS settings to default. No problem at 2 GB but will not work with 4. The fastest Mhz setting I can achieve with no issues is 1050 Mhz which is fine but it is not 1200 Mhz as claimed. Anyone have any ideas I would be grateful.

Other Thoughts: XFX 780i MB. QX9650 OC to 4 GHz. Voltage on memory set to 2.3V as per specs. 3x 8800 GTX in SLI. Power supply is 1000 watts. 4x Samsung 500GB Hard Drives. Anyone have ideas email me at lordarathres at gmail.com

Thanks.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Great performance, i think that on my particular board the only thing holding it back is my cpu and power supply. I have had everything overclocked. (cpu to 3.4 from 2.4, FSB to 1400 from 1066 etc) and the read/write performance was just amazing ( somewhere around 10,000) but i think the fact that i only have a 400W power supply is holding me back from keeping those settings without blue screening.

Cons: like others have said no 2 gb sticks :(

Other Thoughts: EVGA 780i board, Q6600 quad core g0 stepping, this mem, xfx 8600gt xxx edition, and a enermax 400w modular power supply wrapped up in a thermaltake armor case :)

Manufacturer Response:

Dear CamdogXIII,

Because of the high demand on the 2GB capacity modules, we are in final stages of developing this product. Thank you for choosing Patriot Memory. For any inquireries, please contact support@patriotmem.com.

Best,
Mikel

4 out of 5 eggsGood RAM

Pros: Reasonable price, stable and powerful when tweaked.

Cons: I tried it on my old 680i and my new 780i, and it would not run stable at spec. However, if I tweak it to just under 1200mHz, I can up the timings to 4-4-4-10 and it's rock solid. I may even push it a little harder and see what happens.

Other Thoughts: It does bother me that it wouldn't run stable at 1200. Maybe it needs an Extreme CPU; I was using an E8400.
