Add some extra horsepower to your system with the G.Skill 2GB (2 X 1GB) 800MHz DDR2 SDRAM dual-channel desktop memory kit. This agile pair of memory sticks clocks at 800MHz, and adds two gigs of DDR2 memory to your system. While meeting the needs of anyone looking for more system muscle, these were manufactured with the overclocking enthusiast and tech-savvy shopper in mind. For those building extreme systems or planning revolutionary upgrades, you’ll be pleased to know that installation of these sticks is a breeze.
A recipient of international awards and prestige, G.Skill thoughtfully crafted heat spreaders into these memory sticks to deflect thermal energy away from the dual cores of your phenomenal modules. If you’re in the market for a new system, consider the enormous savings of purchasing this 2GB kit instead. You will see an extraordinary boost in your PC’s performance and bandwidth, and still have plenty of change left to spend on more gaming gear!
Pros: Runs perfectly at specified speeds and voltage (800 MHz, 4-4-4-12-2T, 1.9V).
Cons: Have not tried overclocking it yet.
Other Thoughts: I have this on the eVGA nForce 680i board. At first boot, it defaults to 5-5-5-15, which is a good thing - makes it easier for it to boot at 1.8V until you make the necessary changes in the BIOS. Requires 2T, but most DDR2 does. In terms of actual time (in microseconds) PC2 6400 at 4-4-4-12-2T has the same latencies as PC3200 (DDR1) at 2-2-2-6-1T. At 800 MHz, each clock cycle is half as long as at 400 MHz.
It does get warm, so I positioned a case fan to blow over the DIMMs (same as I did for the DDR1 PC4000 I had in my S939 system).

Good Deal

Pros: Fast, good timings, heatspreader included, good price for CL4. Overclocked mine as high as 900Mhz 4-4-4-12 with only 2.1v needed, and I'm sure it would go higher if my FSB could also. Currently running 866Mhz with 2.05v.
Cons: First pair was defective. Was replaced with a later revision which works perfectly. Newegg's RMA was a big slow.
Other Thoughts: Using with P5B Deluxe. Be sure to manually set your timings when you overclock, SPD can lead to problems. I was going to give 4-stars because of the bad first set, but its worked so well with the new ones, I gave it 5.

Other Thoughts: Haven't had it very long, not much time to play around with it, but so far its been great. Should have gotten two more 1GB sticks for the price.

Pros: Fast if set up right
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: Overclocked and this is good memory. I should have bought the 2GB sticks for when I would switch over to Windows 7.

Superb RAM
Reviewed By: Dave on 1/16/2010
Tech Level: high - Ownership: 1 week to 1 month
This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: I installed this onto an ASUS P5B motherboard along with 2 other (older) off-brand RAM chips that I had running on the board for a couple of years now. All the BIOS settings were set to AUTO and the motherboard correctly identified all the settings and utilized the RAM. Everything is working perfectly, OCCT stress tests passed without a hitch. G.Skill and generic-off-brand RAM seem to be playing very nicely together.
Cons: Not really a con, but an advanced warning to all ASUS P5B motherboard users: if you install more than 3 GB of memory on one of these boards, and you are running an x64 capable CPU and OS, make sure you go into the BIOS and DISABLE the memory remapping feature. If you don't your system will only be able to use about 3 GB of RAM. This gave me a big scare when I initially installed the RAM because the BIOS only reported 3008 MB of system memory. (I thought I had a bad chip.) Booting into Win7 x64 and looking at System Properties revealed: "4 GB Installed (2.98 GB usable)." This prompted me to research the issue, and I discovered the BIOS memory remapping feature. After making the adjustment, the RAM went up to full capacity and the system's running GREAT!
Other Thoughts: I've been very happy with G.Skill so far - I've used their memory in several machines now, and I've never had any problems. They also offer a lifetime warranty on their memory, so they must be pretty confident that their memory is going to work. (Or they hope you'll forget where you got it from!) LOL ... In all due seriousness, I'd recommend this brand - and this item in particular - to anyone needing a RAM upgrade that is running a system on an 800 MHz bus.
