excellent ram for the price
- Pros: Excellent ram. as overclockable as D9 ICs, only $xxx cheaper. these babies can hit 1000mhz @ 4-4-3-5 with ~2.35v. if the voltage is too high for your blood, loosen the timings to 4-4-4-12 and it can easily do 1000mhz w/ ~2.25v. if you dont plan on overclocking, you can undervolt these things to 1.8v @ 800mhz w/ 4-4-3-5. 8 hours memtest stable while undervolted.
- Cons: they get on the warm side after a while, even with such a low voltage. i guess its because of the thin brushed aluminum heatspreader. the corsair xms2 heatspreaders are thick and run cooler at a higher voltage. no biggie though.
- Other Thoughts: running along side a e6600 on a P5W DH DLX, zalman 9700led, wd 250gb sata2, 512mb x1900cf, thermaltake tsunami dream case w/ side window.
Fast, stable, and free (for me).
- Pros: Well, for starters, I had just upgraded (via wonderful birthday presents) to an Asus P5N32E-SLI 680i motherboard and E6600 Core2 Duo and this memory kit. These memory sticks were a perfect match, and WOW! That's all I can say. Once I had it set up, I tightened the timings(as everyone says, they'll boot up with loose timings), and pushed them to DDR2-900 at 2.2V 4-3-4-5 2T timings. I'll be working on 1000MHz once I figure out my CPU overclocking ability first. Stable, fast, and absolutely beautiful. I'll definitely be running a 2nd pair, and 64-bit linux or Vista ( once it's more stable).
- Cons: They run warm, but that's to be expected with anything of higher performance, or requiring more voltage. I actually ran into a snag where memtest was failing, but I realized I had the timings set wrong, and I put an intake fan blowing over the memory to keep them cooler. Problem fixed, and they're perfectly stable.
- Other Thoughts: I've read where people have blamed the memory for not showing 4GB in Windows when they upgraded. This is due to a 32-bit limitation, meaning that 2^32=4,294,967,296=4GB, part of which is used for allocating resources, leaving the remaining 3.75, 3.5, 3.25 or whatever your machine says you have left. 64-bit operating systems are the ONLY way to correct this. Finally, for the memory not being recognized at rated timings, the reason is because if it did, you most likely wouldn't be able to boot/post. This memory requires more voltage than standard DIMMS, and therefore wouldn't post with an insufficient amount of voltage to reach those rated timings. Other than that, these are phenomenal DIMM modules, especially for the price. I highly recommend these to anyone looking for that extra little edge for a extremely competitive price.
